I don't believe Toon Lagoon should go. Its a perfect match for the other islands, IMHO. I've still no idea who Dudley Do Right is (was he ever in the UK) but Ripsaw is a fun ride - IP regardless - if In need of, well, finishing.

If land in needed for another IP I'd rather see the theatre space and perhaps the edge of Toon be used as opposed to the whole land. Yes, the Barges are planned to remain either way last I heard but the overall theme is a welcome and needed change, again IMHO, to the more edgy themes either side.

Interesting. I don't disagree with the sentiment, but I think the theme was just poorly done. The main part of the land has always been pretty ugly, and I've never been a fan of Dudley. Though Sweethaven and Popeye have always been favorites. I'd be fine with the toon theme staying if they just made the land more engaging.

I had a professor in college that was one of the main designers for Toon Lagoon. I'd be curious to hear what he thinks of how the land has changed.

Fun fact: During testing before they got Popeye right, the rocks would rip the complete top half of the raft off.

How many guest have honestly seen Song Of The South when they go on Splash Mountain? I feel that same way about Dudley. like when I walk into TL and see Rip Saw every morning before I clock in, it's crazy how beautiful it looks. I mean, I was born in 1992 and I remember watching it on Cartoon Network late at night.

I wouldn't mind if it got a total retheme with new show elements, but I don't think it should be complete demolished unless Universal has some bad ass idea for a new ride up there sleeve since, from what I'm reading, Rip Saw wont affect Kong.

That's a GREAT point about the overall flow of the park. I love the idea of Toon Lagoon, I just wish they didn't run out of time and money when they built it.

I will say that I enjoy the drop almost as much on Splash Mountain too, just because the anticipation is built up more, if ever so slightly. Once again, this goes along with themeing. I think it's a bit too dark on Dudley.

I agree with the last few posters...I would hate to lose Bluto most of all! I'm not sure I like tearing it all out even if it is LOTR

Who cares if people don't know who Dudley Do-Right is? Doesn't mean they can't enjoy the ride. I'm sure the Transformers IP will lose steam at some point (probably not soon, the new movie looks good) should we just dump it then? I won't disagree with Toon Lagoon needing some work but not every IP in the park is going to be new and relevant or you will just have an endless cycle of replacing things. Universal has plenty of fresh, popular IPs making them money (Potter, Marvel, minions, SpongeBob, etc.). I love Universal, but in my personal tastes...they need a bit more old-school injected into the parks.

But despite my defending of Toon Lagoon, I've acknowledged that its' days are numbered and I try and enjoy it as much as I can when I go to IoA.

I'd say maintenance is equally terrible for both attractions.
Thought the "scenic overlook" gag at Dudley is one of my favorite theme park gags of all time.

It is a fun land with some unique elements...those elements are just outdated though..and most of them aren't marketable anymore minus Popeye..Seriously, without the land some of those characters would remain in the unknown...that's not good for Universal's image

It is telling that a land based entirely around cartoon/comic characters has... no unique M&Gs. Popeye and Olive Oyl occasionally pop up at Studios, and Boop is a regular at both parks. However, Sarge, Beetle Bailey, Zero, and Bluto are NEVER out anymore.

Lol ... it is kind of funny that most likely this is the ultimately decision maker: merchandise!
You can have the best IP, ride, content etc, if it cannot generate merchandise it will be shot down.

Is it too much for me to expect discussion of the amazing King Kong attraction that's coming when I click on this thread?

Agreed. Let's right the track a little bit and get back to the mighty Kong.

You can have the best IP, ride, content -> then you should also have the best selling merchandise...

YESSSS!!! Of all the lame jokes/puns made in Toon Lagoon, this one is by far my favorite. I wonder if the "overlooked scenery" (I think you might have meant to say this) is supposed to be in reference to the fact that this was not nearly as well-themed as it had originally been meant to be...

No, there's literally a sign that says "Scenic Overlook" next to a gap in the wall through which you can clearly see the unthemed ride building! If I recall correctly, it's to your left as you're going up a hill...

Actually, there's a sign that says scenic overlook, and right past that sign is one that says overlooked scenery.

You guys are both right!
