How about building an E ticket where I don't have to wear glasses at all?

That is my one complaint about Universal lately. I'm sick of the 3-D. Give me sets and animatronics instead please!

Seriously guys...IOA has one, ONE 3D attraction right. Currently USF has 3 right? Kings dominion has 3 launched coasters...no one complains. Holiday world has basically only wooden coasters...no one complains.

The issue is the majority of people lump ioa and the studios together as the same park. So they count the rides as being for the resort as a whole when they are two entirely different parks. While on the studios side 3d may be overkill, In ioa it is not

I'm sorry. I don't think we should buy into this AAs are out/3D is the future business. The most singularly impressive parts of a lot of the latest rides still use physical props and environments. That includes the actual talking cars in Radiator Springs Racers, the dragon and Whomping Willow in Forbidden Journey, etc. 3D isn't being used to enhance rides like it could. It's replacing what used to be perceived as "real." It's hard to swallow losing a "real" Kong for a 3D one, just like I wouldn't care for a 3D Jaws.

I agree AAs and props should not be removed 100% and from what I have heard about Gringott's we should expect some impressive sets with the screens integrated intelligently with them. I think the problem with AA comes up when you are 100% reliant on it and when your crown jewel is broken your ride is severely impacted.

Everybody is talking about all of Disney's AA's and comparing them to what Universal should be doing. Is it really practical to build a full sized Kong or Transformer AA? I don't know the tech behind it, but it seems like it would be a close to impossible feat. I would imagine making a mermaid or cars AA would be a lot simpler than a full sized Kong. Just look what happens to JP when Tiff goes down, or a better example look what happened to EE. The investment of a giant AA probably isn't enough to get more people to come to see it, even if it is more impressive.

Four right now and five when Gringotts opens.

Well, theyve made a lifesize Kong animatronic...3 actually. And that was back in the '90's.

They also struggled to keep maintaining them with their high price tags.

20 years has not been enough time to create a life-like fluidly moving Kong AA that would be up to par with the new rides currently being added to the park. Yes the Kong AA was impressive and huge, but people here are hoping for tech on the level of Radiator Springs, only the size of Kong.

Coasters are more fun than screens. Nothing against Universal because I love Spiderman, TF, FJ, etc. However, I wish they would do more of what it sounds like they are going to do with Kong by mixing screens with full sections of practical effects. And before I hear someone say they do have practical effects/physical sets in those rides I mentioned, sure they do. But those rides might as well be sponsored by red bull. Everything happens so fast and in the moment you are in awe, but you never really get a chance to appreciate the experience. Universal needs more rides that can be really appreciated and are more of an experience than a whirlwind.

I don't know that the question is if anyone trusts them. I'm quite positive that the ride is going to be great. But I also feel like if the ride is going to be so grandiose and GMR-esque, why do we need to throw in a section specifically made for 3D viewing (when the rest of the ride will be without glasses). It just seems forced and unneeded, especially in this case.

What a funny discussion. Let me see how many rides at Epcot have screens.... All of them! Even the god awful Nemo has them like projection in the aquarium and tv screens instead of AA's and Turtle Talk. The same with Ellen, Mars, all The Land rides (Soarin, boat ride, Lion King), EO, TT (lot of projections), even the closed body pavilion had many and of course all the lands that have something in them (including American Adventure/Mexico/Norway). The upkeep and quality of most of them are poor and changing a bulb or upgrading is probably to much to ask or to expensive. So how are people complaining about Universal that uses projection in so many inventive and different ways.

I guess until a new HTF stands up and give us intel we have to trust him in Kong being amazing.

I have a friend visiting this week...and he had never been to Uni or Disney before just recently(crazy, I know!), and while he likes the parks, he made a comment to me that stuck with me.
"While Universal is fun, why is almost everything just looking at screens?"
I told him that's the direction Uni is going, pursuing more with ride vehicles and effects. He then said another thing I find to be too true.
"This park doesn't have enough for families to do together. Not saying all rides should be for kiddies, but they need more rides that everyone can enjoy."

Maybe we need that Lorax dark ride in IOA soon. Maybe we need another family dark ride in Kidzone too. (As well as E.T.)

Kong is supposed to be one of those rides...I hope it's done well. I could care less if they build an animatronic Kong and he's not the most fluidic thing ever. I look at Jurassic Park and know that if they replaced the T-Rex with a 3-D projection, it wouldn't do jack squat to impress me. The tangible will always be more realistic and interesting over a projected image.

I do think though 3D will be a debate for Kong but lets face it, Fans will jump up and down but the general audience needs more to see of it so mabye thats why it will have to be advertised alot with the 3D and there will be Practical and that outdoor AA... i still think its kong due to the Technology has Improved since Kongfrontation so they really can go all out with new ways to hide Kongs Robotic body but newer materals to not only Cover kong himself but make him more agile to movement than in the past where it was a fur and he only could do small movements. Thats what i personally think of some of the Dilemas.

Quite honestly, If they can do with kong what they did with that T-Rex which is probably the most Successful themepark AA achievement ever, I'd be more than a happy camper. Really, they need to do little more than replicate that but with Kong. The technology is there.

I think that Universal really needs an "organic" family ride at this point........along the lines of Big Thunder/Haunted Mansion/POTC. Something that excites and thrills those of all ages......without wearing glasses or staring at big screens.

So being bored on Saturday night, I stumbled across this. Some plans were filed to the South Florida Water Management that gives a good idea on what the show building and project area for Kong will be. I threw up this together based on the filings. The red outline is the project outline, and the shaded light pink area is the apparent show building.
