I love the style of PR Universal does......don't say anything for a while, and let the buzz build itself. You have this massive structure visible to the public and you dont hear a peep. love it!

Yeah, I like it too. I also like the way Disney announces big things with big concept art. Uni did the exact same thing with the original Potter; big concept art before anything. These days, Uni is more restrained, so much so that there are impressive things actually created that they never announce, while Disney continues to announce tile and fixture replacement with a fanfare.

All that crap said. I love the way this site enables some of us to do our own PR on projects Uni hasn't yet announced. I can guarantee you that many of the things said on here aren't rumor at all although some want to tow the line that it isn't "official".

The minute HTF said I wouldn't be happy, I knew it was official.

I hate the uni PR, make it to the point when it's ridiculously obvious and everybody knows what's gonna be there THEN announces it on a FB post in the middle of the day. They rock it with horror nights but when it comes to their rides? Ugh it's just excruciating

I think it's just the nature of their client base. Universal is farther away from destination maturity than Disney and has to be more careful in the way they market themselves. They're in a period of rapid expansion which is tricky for a destination to do properly--my guess is that they don't want each of their upcoming projects to cannibalize one another so timing is everything. If they announce Kong too early, people will postpone their 2015 trips to 2016 and since they don't have the same built-in base as Disney does that would hurt them. They also are more reliant on a local market than Disney is, and keeping locals excited at just the right times (not too soon, not too late) is crucial. Meanwhile Disney knows they'll get x amount of visitors coming in from all over the world no matter what, and that since they depend more on people who make bookings/reservations far in advance, have to publicize everything as early as possible.

I think they're both frustrating because with Disney you get excited for projects way too far in advance and with Universal you're left anticipating "unknown" projects for a longer amount of time. But I think it's their way of keeping things exciting and seeming like they're moving at a steady pace. Their steady pattern of announcements at later times gives the impression that they're adding more, and more quickly, which appeals to the demographics/psychographics they want to capture.

Those are some excellent points. Tourists, especially, will delay their trips in anticipation of a new E ticket opening. I've done it myself. Outside of these forums, the general tourist populace doesn't know what's happening in future expansions if there's no official publicity, so that's good for Universal. Universal will probably always be a bit tenuous after the big attendance drop off before Hogsmeade opened. But on a counter note, with a lot more on site hotel rooms and these great expansions in the last few years, Universal should be less susceptible to these situations then they were in the past. I really believe the hotel rooms are a major key to their whole future success. Besides being hugely profitable, Universal will be a bit less reliant on the Disney customer driving down for a one day trip.

I'm not entirely convinced Universal PR has a hands off approach when it comes to these unknown projects. Selectively leaking details to a few certain websites and even people that post on here is a genius idea. Come on!!! You really think all these people that have seen "plans" and know details aren't fed a steady stream directly from Universal!?! I would venture to guess there are screen names on this forum that universal uses to keep the conversation going. It keeps us theme park fanatics hungry with anticipation at the same time it doesn't alert the general public into postponing their vacations. Lets face it, most people outside of our circle don't know much about what's going on at UNI outside of Harry Potter.

YOU DON'T JUST HAVE ACCESS TO DETAILS OF EVERY PROJECT IN THE PIPELINE WITHOUT 1. BEING A PART OF UC or 2. BEING GIVEN SELECTIVE INFORMATION BY MARKETING THEMSELVES.

I love it though. It's like a drug that keeps me coming back for more. But hey! No source is going to keep giving you secret information on project after project when they can clearly see that you leak all of it, unless that's by design.

To quote the CEO of Coca-Cola when asked if "New Coke" was a marketing ploy to get people to drink more Classic Coke... "We're not that smart, and we're not that stupid".

Your ideas are a bit naive and very short sighted. The only group that appears to receive leaks is TPI who admitted that UC and Marketing practically sniffed their turds in press previews, VIP'ing them back onto Gringotts over and over until they got a flawless ride. They didn't do that for every news outlet.

Short sighted in that there are relatively few who are actually employed by UC and Marketing. The bulk of everything created is done by outside companies, contractors, freelancers. They have their hands on everything way before UC even sees it! Hell, I have been really lucky to see stuff right off the drafting table before it is actually presented to anyone at any of the major parks. Marketing cannot control that, I promise.

So... um... there.

I remember most of the "secret" info I learned while Diagon was being built was coming from a guy I knew that was doing the electrical wiring for the restaurants, shops, ride signs, etc. The insiders' info definitely doesn't come from Universal.

I don't appreciate being called naive. Yes there are vendors that are privy to information. I just find it interesting. And maybe you have no connection at all. But that doesn't mean others on here don't. Or like you said, other websites who we reference for information aren't leaked things on purpose.

UOR PR sees WDW's feet full of holes they've shot into them, IMHO.

-edit-

FWIW, I love TPI and Robert Niles, professional bunch. But it's clear they had a leak from UOR somehow: they broke major news with major insight and still got VIP access to the preview event. Some people sneeze and get on a **** list from UOR.

All UC creative info is given by the Universal fairy that taps the heads of insiders on this site with a magic Harry potter interactive wand while they're sleeping. They then dream of all the awesome attractions then share then with us. It really as simple as that :pixiedust:

Oh gosh. Just be happy that some people know things that Universal/Comcast would rather they didn't. That was the point.

I think you got it. Does that fairy contract out to Peter Pan by chance?

If Skull Island is indeed a different design than PJ's Kong, I find it odd they'd go with the 2005 design. I mean, I know they have a useable set of 3-D film for part of the ride, so it may just be a cost saving thing, but you'd figure they'd want some semblance of cross promotion.

Then again, maybe not enough of the new Skull Island design is done and they may make it a random mish mash.

From what I know on the movie end of things, Skull Island is seeing some behind-the-scenes delays, with rewrites and more. It seems likely they didn't have one consistent vision for the island yet, and to move forward with production certain decisions had to be made. I bet they'll make strides to make Kong himself look like he is out of the new film, which was described as a scarier design than 2005's.

There is no offical story yet, everytime it gets mentioned in an interview I swear to god they say something completely different than the last plot. Have a feeling this will be a production nightmare

I don't have pictures, but there has been progress made on the site. The West side (JPRA side) has a 1 story frame work that's looks something along the lines of this --|- (the vertical below the dashes being what appears to be a new structure) AND steel work on the other side that is all twisty looking. (Possibly stone arches as you walk in?) You'll see soon enough I hope.

i finally bought my annual pass this weekend (:peace::drool:) and the guy at the window asked me what my favorite ride was. I told him it was Rockit for laughs. He told me that his was always Kong. I asked him how excited he was that it was returning. he gave me the shifty eye :stunned::-X:inquisitive: and nodded to the cameras behind him like "they are watching me!" He was really funny as he played like he knew nothing.
