Here's your spooky fix for the day: Chilling Chambers



Rumor has it, the reason Knotts had to ditch "The Keeper", is because the estate for Sinister Seymore felt the likeness was too close so he had to be eliminated lol *sigh*

Also the lore for The Conductor is that he guides us into the different realms of Scary Farm nightmares. Hence the interactive lantern gimmick introduced for the 50th. The only 2 houses that currently have The Conductor's voice narration is Chilling Chambers & Eight Fingers Nine

Sarah Marshall/The Green Witch just exists for now even though her reign ended with 2019's The Hanging.

Wow that is very sad to hear about the keeper character. Never got to experience the maze during 50th due to the crowds. So I figured I would see it the following year. My utter surprise when I didn’t see the keeper for the 51st season.
Now if all makes sense.

Nothing noticeably "new" in the former Bloodline area obviously due to most of the work at this point is clearing out the warehouse


I kept forgetting to get a pic of this, but I've kept my eye on the area. It seems they've decided to just keep the Origins "fly rig" up instead of removing it. Definitely saves time & money.


Here's a shot showing how much ground space they cram those cave walls into. Narrow maze path is narrow.

Can't do a Mesmer update until they're done retracking the train. Although I guess I could go on the sky cabin. That's your slow haunt update for January.

In other news, it seems that fresh plywood has appeared outside of both Waxworks & Bloodline for their new replacement. It's possible to get a very brief glimpse from GhostRider, but not get pics sadly..

The only ones that get dismantled are the ones located in Wilderness Dance Hall ("Origins") & Boardwalk Ballroom ("Cinema Slasher"). Everything else is backstage, so there is no reason for them to take them down unless they're being replaced due to retirement.

Knotts doesn't have the storage space. Also, you'll see both Origins/Cinema wrapped up/piled up backstage most of the year. Including some of their SZ sets/props.

They only recently within the last 2 years invested in roofing for the existing mazes that are exposed to the elements instead of being inside a warehouse.

When Mesmer debuted in '21 it had a short pre show in that first tent (very quickly dropped that year). They created a completely different opening scene, and set, for the '22 season, so they probably had to remove the sign and a few set pieces to access the tent. Clearly not an issue this year or last.

BREAKING NEWS!!!
Just got word that maze construction has officially begun for the Waxworks & Bloodline replacement! I've been told that walls are going vertical inside the Waxworks warehouse. The Paranormal/Bloodline warehouse is once again getting an exterior addition for that new maze. The platform is installed & walls going vertical.

In other news, the Emporium giftshop out front has its windows covered with black tarps, BUT there was a small gap to peak inside


As you can see, the Ghost Town cabin set is inside so it would seem like they're starting on the Legacy Store.. (which is kinda hilarious when you think how quickly Universal Orlando swaps out their tribute stores for each event throughout the year & Knott's is starting in March for Scary Farm!)

I wonder when they knew that Bloodlines was going to be replaced. The first year was pretty rough so maybe they knew the writing was on the wall but chose to let it limp along for two seasons anyways. Logistically, Knott's replaces two houses per year, and they originally probably expected that house to last a while, so they probably had to pull forward that replacement and design a new one for that space instead of replacing an older one.

Since HHN manages to design ten houses a year, it makes me curious as to whether they have a few plans in advance or just basic concepts that they design as soon as they need to.

The next in line would've actually been Origins since it debuted in 2019 with Waxworks.

They just design what they need to, but they do let concepts evolve until they get their debut.. Bloodline was one of those "long gestational ideas", but ultimately, it didn't pay off.

With that being said, I kinda believe they put a teaser spoiler for a house concept in the display window of Virginia's giftshop outfront


This is from 2022... "Knott's Presents Movie Memories" .....and BAM! 2023 debuts "Cinema Slasher" featuring past Scary Farm mazes/SZs aka "memories" as movies.

There was also a Spider display window in 2022, but you'd have to ask someone from the creative team if that was an early "Widows" tease or not.

Glad they’re starting construction but it’s kinda rough considering that, once again, all of the new mazes will be in the Ghostrider backstage area.

I've been told they've been "active" in Grimoire again recently, but it's probably just refurbishment/upkeep rather than actual changes (unfortunately)

Hot take: I enjoy Grimoire, but would rather see that go before Origins. Origins is pretty good, it just needs a refresh. It still works as the event’s thesis house.

Get rid of Grimoire lol it’s overrated. The line is longer than the maze.
