Makes yuh wonder why Mii Maker on Switch 2 didn't give them an overhaul with the ears and the amount of customization found in Miitopia.

I thought I'd share a fun fact as someone with pre-existing attachment and knowledge to the medium represented with SNW.

I never really noticed this since these are 2D renderings of the Miis, but they got visible ears on them, which they didn't normally have.

And then three months ago, the new Tomodachi Life got announced, which does give them ears like we see here.

Very interesting to see that even SNW had a form of production foreshadowing in it (especially considering this was first made in 2020 for when it first opened in Japan). Heard this was also the case with Mando's helmet being in that one gift shop in Galaxy's Edge before The Mandolorian was even announced.

This may be weird to mention now that I recall the last posts were about how the pre-show drags on, but if there's one thing I can appreciate from it, it's this (And even then you still see them at the end of the ride before you get back to the station). I still remember being pleasantly surprised to see that Miis were represented when I was going through the queue for the first time, since it basically immortalized them. Helped that the Nintendo Museum also has them as an option for your badge, and now here we are with a new game for them on the horizon.

It's interesting to see how early some of these calls were made! I wonder when Junior's paintbrush + Clown Car combo design was established as he shares it with Bowser's Fury back in 2021.

I think I've got a possible reason; backwards compatibility with Switch 1 games that weren't designed with those in mind, especially since people playing on both platforms can play together (I.e. MK8D, Smash Ultimate).

That said, hoping the new stuff sticks for any future in-house Mii focused games. Fingers crossed the full customization's coming back in the first place, let alone the ability to import Miis from Miitopia into Living The Dream.

After Playing Mario Kart 9....there are a few courses I would not mind seeing replace area's in the ride

The underground Pipes (easily the weakest area for me) and Mansion Part (Id only replace this if they put a Luigi mansion ride/experience in the park)

But Boo Cinema would be soooo much fun to included, Dino Dino Jungle would be fun as well. No idea if they will ever update the ride but would not mind if they did

The ride has only been open for 2 1/2 years. Won’t happen for a while if ever lol

I would love to see the cow added in as a character in the VR. Better yet have a meet and greet for the cow during FFN!

There was an article a while back when MK debuted in Japan saying the screen media and gameplay portions on the visors were built in a gaming engine so that they could drop updates for either new MK game releases or holidays.

Super Nintendo World Mario Kart Ride Built in a Game Engine

The Mario Kart ride at Super Nintendo World uses a game engine, allowing executives to easily make changes to the ride over time.

I have doubts that those kinds of updates ever happen. Updates like that require a lot of time, money, and effort; especially with third-party IP, and especially when working with IP holders like Nintendo who are notorious for their micromanagement and weird, opaque requests. Feels a lot more like the USF Treehouse of Horrors layover than a Star Tours 2.0 scenario.

Also, I doubt they'd ever need to update it either. Mario Kart is based off of MK8, the longest running game in the franchise and one made during the "generic" era of the Mario brand when they were really sticking to the basics of the IP. I think it'll age remarkably well; potentially better than the entire DKC land next door over in Epic and Japan.

People keep mentioning the Treehouse of Horrors whenever screen-based overlays are discussed when that is a very “apples/oranges” comparison.

Universal planned to develop an overlay at the same time they were developing the ride. However, contract negotiations with one of the voice actors delayed the development of the entire attraction and Treehouse got cut as a result because Universal never intended to go back and create a second, separate film. (Their intent was to record/animate everything for the overlay at the same time).

That’s a very different situation from building a ride with a game engine designed for “simplistic” overlays.

This isn’t an issue of “let’s” it’s an issue of Nintendo saying no.

I feel ride capacity/output per hour might also be an issue, along with space.

For epic? Go for it

But USH is too small without the studio or golf course giving up space

They could bulldoze the current Mario Kart ride for all I care :yum

The ride system shared is far more true to what people expected. Find a way to scale it up slightly, and we have a winner!

Of course it won’t happen, but people can dream.

Agreed. Sucks it’s a new ride too but I don’t think many will be that sad to see it go. Ride just doesn’t hit the mark like it should have.

I get people have their own tastes but can we not start again with trying to make this ride the next Supercharged just because of that and/or it's not a thrill ride? This horse has been beaten 6+ feet under enough times and I really don't think it's that hated.

I'm just flabbergasted to already see calls to tear it down 2 years after it opened here.

I understand being a little disappointed with Mario Kart not being the kind of ride you hoped it would be, but c’mon. It’s getting more hate than it deserves. I enjoy it for what it is. It’s basically our MIB.

Once F&F opens, I’m pretty confident y’all will chill out.

Certainly doesn’t need to be a thrill ride, but could still do a far better (family friendly) job at recreating Mario Kart. Frankly the ride is bland, the AR sucks, and while the ride is well themed, without the AR there’s barely anything truly practical in the space.

It’s telling that we only rode it once on our visit.

Frankly we only did early entry, and never went back in the land the rest of the day.

The ride is not good (imo), not because it isn’t thrilling but because it’s a just okay dark ride without the goggles and a very bad game with them on. That said, it’s not going anywhere and I have no idea why anyone is acting like this is speculation and not simply wishcasting.

I don't think this is true. I can easily name these from the set design throughout the ride that are practical:
  • A moving chain chomp animatronic in the opening segment
  • A thwomp, with projection mapping for its face
  • Multiple Piranha Plants
  • Some kind of warmth blast when you enter Dolphin Shoals (the underwater area)
  • A swinging chandelier in Twisted Mansion
  • Multiple Bowser face trampolines in Cloudtop Cruise
  • Wind effects (here and Rainbow Road)
  • The airship Boom Boom and Pom Pom are on have rotating rotors
  • The steam from Lava Bowser
Sure, it's not as much compared to a full on dark ride but that's just how it is by design. It's not like they didn't even try to round it out like the word "Barely" seems to insinuate.

I think we've been over the "game" part before too, and I'd really rather not restart that either. I think I remember saying while it could use refinements, I don't think it's outright bad, and we're just gonna have to agree to disagree on that.

And to answer your question at the end, it being in wake of a new type of ride system made it rather easy to see as an evolution of the badgering a group of people already give this ride. It's just exhausting, especially when you're in the camp that feels like it gets too much, and when you're in a space that seems to make the camp you're in feel like the minority.
