I think the final season of GOT ended most people's need to rewach any of the fanastic seasons that came before it.

They do need a compelling series or 2 though. I could go for the 'House of Dragons' or a second season of Watchmen. Something event worthy.

While I agree, what else can they do? They can't just pull something out of the hat. My vote still goes for a Batman Live action show....ten hourish long episodes basically the Batman Animated series but live action think that could draw lots of buzz but that is wayyyy off if ever.

Also unless they get a whole new Team there will be no new Watchmen Season for a long....long time the writer of it said Watchmen is suppose to be special and comment on the times but doing it every year would be hard and he is not interested in that. I feel the season really works to show off some of the worst parts of America now...similar to the OG comic and think we should let it rest for a while.

Is J.J. Abrams' OVERLOOK HOTEL show still happening for HBO Max? That could lend itself well to an anthology format (either episode by episode or season by season).

I'm sure it will be fine..but is that what people are looking for?

I feel JJ just has not had an exciting project in years...SW was all safe and while I think he killed in in rebooting Star Trek..that was ten years ago.

The two things they own I think would work very well are Batman and Potter (lord of the rings would be nice but seems Amazon has that) a Potter Series following a mystery of someone killing Muggles could be cool, a Live action batman series, a rebooted Batman Beyond Animated Series I feel like these would grab people to come in. Hell and I have not read the books but a Dune TV series that was a prequel to the books/films would have been good thinking on there part as well.

What can they do? Let’s see, what are people most excited about with HBO Max presently/looking forward? WW84 got a lot of interest and then a lot of people are looking forward to the Justice League Snyder Cut. Watchmen was a huge commercial and critical success last year, too.

I’d say that tells me they should do like Disney+ is doing and double down on Superhero content/shows for the service. Want new subscribers, that’s a sure fire way to draw them in.

I'm not disagreeing

Like I've said a few times a Batman man live action show that i like the animated show in the 90s but love action would kill...but no clue if they are even thinking about that. Also Watchman like I said was one and done kinda thing. So really 2021 will be an ok year for them but without Dune and Kong....its kinda like who the hell cares. They even announced Tiny Toons are coming to the Service which will be fun but not not year.
I feel unlike Disney they are going to do fine but not go higher than expected because they have no smash hit like Mando and lose many of the best films...Want to Watch the Harry Potter films...well they are on Peacock...lol
Hell even the first WW film is leaving soon. They really did not plan well for this app.

PS we for god knows what reason don't have the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit extended versions...why not? who the hell knows

On the HP front, I agree that's dumb that some of their biggest movies are on a competing service, but Peacock was probably asking for the moon for the rights and tbh, while having those movies would be nice, HBO Max has such a nice catalog anyway that they don't NEED them. Also, catalog movies like Potter aren't necessarily even what people sign up for. They're signing up for GOT, Friends, Fresh Prince, etc. The Shows.

If Warner was smart, they'd work with Rowling to fast-track a Potter Max Original series. A Poitter series has way more value than any of the movies in my opinion as it's new content. Eventually Peacock will lose the Potter rights anyway, so Max will have those movies eventually.

Also, I agree that the contracts for their films are all over the place and they didn't get that sorted out like they should've for Max's launch. Disney made sure to get most of that settled for the launch of Disney+ by ending their contract with Netflix. There's only a few films left on Netflix that will soon be gone. The Only remaining contractual issues Disney has is the Fox rights with HBO/HBO Max (that contract ends in 2022) and they are missing the Sony Spider-Man Films and the Universal Hulk film. With Max, it seems big movies are leaving all the time whereas on Disney+ when something hits the service, it's there for good with the exception of a few cases.

I'm expecting the response to be very similar to WW84, tbh. Although i'm betting the RT score is gonna be in the 50's with an audience score probably in the 70's.

I mean, yes and no.

The people who care about it REALLY care. But then there's everyone else who couldn't give less of a crap that it's happening. So what, he's making *his* crappy version (based on the trailers we've seen, which honestly are embarrassing) of an already terrible movie. Big deal.

The Snyder Cut fans probably will never admit that it sucks even if it does, so of course the discourse will be crazy. And the bar is set so low for Snyder (40% on RT) that all he has to do is make something that is passable or has some redeeming qualities and it'll be seen as being "better".

Cancelled last I heard due to Doctor Sleep underperforming (which is itself a crime)

Doctor Sleep underperformed solely due to poor marketing. I know the book is called Doctor Sleep, but if they wanted to call it that, they should've been WAY more clear of how closely it's related to The Shining since it's technically a sequel.

I don't much care WHY it underperformed, and as someone who considers Kubrick's Shining one of the worst King adaptations, I see the movie as more of an apology to King than a sequel to the Kubrick. Taken on its own, with no consideration given its status as a sequel, it's still a crime thst it underperformed, and I'm glad it's getting its due now.

People have definitely appreciated it more once it got to streaming and VOD it seems.

Again, while nice that these releases will be going straight to HBOMax potentially, they need more than that. Movies are a one time event. It's big event series that really make for a killer streamer.

For example, Disney could take $150M and say, here, let's throw Ant Man 3 on Disney+ for it's release. Instead, they're allocating those funds towards event SHOWS like The Mandalorian. Shows like the Star Wars D+ shows or MCU D+ shows are a much better use of money as it's high caliber content that expands the MCU's story AND provides Disney+ with roughly roughly 2 months or so worth of content per show, with most shows being shows that are going to be highly anticipated.

HBO Max seems to be focusing on these event movies, but they don't have an event show anymore since GOT ended.

I love how Static is a "risky" film.

Marvel is making money off no name characters...WW didn't have a billion dollar film until 3 years ago...WB needs to understand its less to do with which hero's and more to do with do you have a good Director, is the script good and do you have charming actors?

DC has some great characters but they time after time mess them up trying to go all in instead of slowly building....I hope Static and Batgirl are good films but its a coin toss not because of the characters but because DC greenlights projects without having any idea or team in mind making them

Just watched The Flight Attendant. Absolutely loved it. Probably one of the best shows of 2020.

Started Batman Beyond Today...been like ten years since I watched it last on Netflix DVDs. The series holds up, obviously the OG Batman Animated Series is even more amazing but this is a very well done sequel series, If you have never seen it or have not seen it in a while I think you would enjoy it if you like Batman but want something just a little different.
