Mummy was redone, they’re working on JPRA now, and I’ve heard rumors of a USF attraction getting TLC early next year.
If we're comparing Disney vs Universal "updated attractions," I wouldn't count Mummy. It feels smoother and runs more efficiently, with overhauled computer controls and track? I'm sure it was expensive, but it's not exactly an "influencer-day" kind of update. I think many people were hoping for a updated animatronics / special effects. The most notable difference a guest can actually see is the scarabs practical effect was replaced by a screen (unless I'm not remembering this correctly), which is arguably a downgrade.
(I was personally rather hyped about Mummy getting updated, and then felt let down after riding the "updated" version by the fact that nothing visually changed.)
Not saying the Mummy refurbishment wasn't needed (and it's probably still my favorite USF attraction). But, that update is not exactly something that screams "this is an updated / modern ride" to the general audience. Fair is fair, I wouldn't count this kind of refurbishment on the Disney side either. But Big Thunder, Buzz Light-year, etc all got very blatant and advertisable updates.
I'm really hoping for more of a Hulk (2016) situation, where they replaced track, but importantly, they rethemed the queue.
Edit: Spider-Man (updated 2012) and Earthquake/Disaster (2008) are other notable Universal overhauls, but those are over a decade ago. Really the only notably different attraction within the last decade is Trollercoaster (2024). TBD on MIB, JPRA, and Horror Make-up Show.
(Also not counting the attractions which have removed 3D.)
