But this ride, like SSE, is smack dab right in front of you when you enter the park. It is *in* the icon.

So, I have a question. What is the centerpiece attraction for Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom?

Based on Skip’s criteria, “It’s Tough to be a Bug”.
It’s smack dab in the middle of the park and it is *in* the icon.

I get what Skip is trying to say but I prefer to think of the attractions as "thesis" attractions. GMR was one, SSE is one, and I'd say Safaris at DAK is one.

From the Magic M&M Spoiler thread today...a poster who has had multiple rides on this..."I've already ridden a handful of times.....but overall still fun. Definitely keep expectations low. 100% can guarantee it will get better reception in the west coast as a Toontown addition."

Agreed about Safari.
But until they change the icon, which is ToT and not the theater; doesn’t that have the be the marque attraction?

Great idea. No one else will possibly think of doing that!

What’s your problem? All you do here is go around insulting posters who like Disney.

The use of projections to put us in/create/augment environments (rather than simulate action) seems to give the experience a visually unique look, for sure.

From what I’ve seen of those photos, it looks good. I can see what everyone was talking about with this being “good, but great”. I can also see why they wouldn’t think this would be a “worthy” replacement for GMR.

Over on WDW Magic, on the M&M Spoiler thread (pg 13), they just put up three new videos. The third one has highlight scenes of almost half the actual ride, with sound too...{Edit: Now it's on their front page of the site also. The partial ride video is the one that's 2 min. 38 seconds long, and first on the front page)...............................Looking at this, ROTR, M&M & Ratatouille are going to feel really similar, all opening back to back to back. But in a good way, though redundant. These three seem closer to the same feel than Spidey & Transformers ever felt.

Attractions Magazine also posted a video of the ride and obviously, it's two minute video on the Internet, not riding it in person but...I still miss GMR. I suppose I never would have been okay with losing it no matter what they did.

We've been over this many times, but GMR not only had ridership problems, it was a ride that was very expensive to maintain due to parts not being produced for the ride system anymore. They had to do *something* to the ride if MMRR didn't take over and the alternate plan was a redone ride with updated scenes... that would've cost more money than MMRR and in Disney's eyes, would've been more of a risky investment because they already had ridership numbers on GMR. By putting a Mickey & Minnie ride in, it's synergistic and guaranteed to be popular which is why it won out.

The same old ride wasn't staying no matter what.

I haven't seen video of Runaway Railway (and I think I'm going to attempt to avoid it), but I very much hope this isn't my reaction.

I can say that ROTR didn't remind me of videos of Ratatouille at all (except for the escape pod sequence). Ratatouille's more of a "let's put people in front of screens and simulate entire scenes" experience based on what I've seen.

This is much longer total than that one . There's actually three videos, the two without the ride scenes is essentially the same 2 minutes in the Attractions video. The 2 min. 38 second video is almost all new footage (except for the first few seconds that's at the end of the attractions video). The Magic video also has a video scene with sound of the pre show. There's lot's more on Magic. it's worth looking at if you don't mind a 'major' spoiler of the actual ride.

Having been on this one now, I’m more optimistic about the three trackless rides being able to feel more distinct from one another than Spidey and Transformers do.

For me, the big problem with Tranformers is that it takes Spider-Man’s big tricks exactly as they are and drops them in ad nauseum (freefall, digital projectile to real fireball, hooked on character to fly behind them on the screen).

Mickey’s feels distinct from the other two in that
the ride movement is solely dictated by the environment. You feel like you’re being pulled by a train, then careen through the desert to the carnival, where the tornado spins you to the volcano, where the water carries you over the falls, and so on. There’s also the aforementioned use of projections *as* the environment, which is trippy and feels more like Alice at Disneyland than Rat’s 3D environments.

In my opinion, Rat and Rise are more closely related to each other than Mickey is to either one of them, and while these three dark rides are inevitably going to be compared, I think it’s more like how Mummy and Hagrid’s are comparable to each other than the Spidey/Transformers we feared.

Just watched the POV. Looks pretty good, just doesn’t look very overwhelming to me. Can’t help but feel this way after going on Rise.

Looks like it will be a solid addition for Toontown but not a worthy replacement for the GMR IMO.

I liked GMR, but I feel like this is a solid addition. It's pretty cute and I know the kids are going to love it, so that's all that really matter to me.

That's a pretty similar view to what those that saw it last week were saying on the Magic threads.
