I remember seeing that post and was incredibly confused. Why would Universal willingly give up FOUR attractions, with Hulk and Spider-man being anchors for the park and easily both in the top 5 rides for the park for any visitor? It's such a massive part of their park and they would need to spend so much time and money replacing it. This decision would truly never make sense to me and even on the 0.0001% chance it happens, Islands would be the last park they touch and EVEN THEN, they would go for Lost Continent first.

I think it would be more. Marvel is still making a lot of money for them even now the brand is a bit on the low side. Changing advertising, apps, websites, maps etc. Removing the old rides, having a gap in their park for about 5 years, cost of new construction, theming, ip (I would calculate and external ip as this is also an external ip), loss of future revenue etc. The list goes on and on and they will bill Disney for everything. The replacement would cost a billion (as Disney said they spent that on SW so why would the new land cost less for Universal) and you will look at 3 to 5 billion or assets of the same value. But Disney still have to give many billions for Hulu in cash to Universal so I think this is not going to happen.

Disney only paid $4 billion for all of Marvel in the first place. No way they pay that just to get theme park rights east of the Mississippi.

You’re probably right that the price tag wouldn’t be that high, but it would be steep. Also, adjusted for inflation, the Marvel deal is around $6 billion in today’s money.

I don't think the industrial look of the existing outdoor rides would translate without seismic modifications, but I'll admit, there's a path there if they chose to take it, haha.

I don't think a Hulk level coaster would be a good fit for a Wicked land. The SCOOP ride system is perfect for. Wicked dark ride though.

IMO if Universal did a Wicked land, it would more than likely be a 100% ground up build.

This is the MSHI "expansion" thread.

Not the "destroy the greatest attraction Universal ever built" thread.

Hot take: Wicked deserves a “mini land” at the most. I could see a small land with some Oz stores and a restaurant and the ride there being similar to Dana’s Macabre at Efteling. Now THAT would be a perfect ride system for Wicked.

IMO, A trackless, no heights requirement family ride would probably be one of the better options for a E ticket Wicked ride. You could pair that with a Dana Macabre like D ticket ride as mentioned above.

Help me understand the Marvel contract...Universal could, in theory, build new Marvel stuff as long as its not MCU based, right? And they'd have to work with its current owner Disney...which would make it incredibly difficult to get anything decent approved, I'd imagine.

I know this is a family friendly forum but 'Darn' doesn't feel strong enough any more.

I was going for a “that darned cat” thing. But I’d change it to “please read the farfanooging marvel contract before saying dumb poop”.

Super hot take: I think that should go where Skull Island is. Yeah. I said it.

Lost Continent should be reserved for something big like Zelda. There’s a LOT of space to work with on that plot of land.

Super hot take: based on Mario and Donkey Kong we should all lower our Zelda expectations to a theme park version of Link’s Crossbow Training and just be surprised if they do better than that.
