At their annual Knott's Scary Farm reveal, the head of entertainment at Knott's made a few wisecracks about Orlando doing this zone, and after seeing it last night, I can't help feel he was correct.
For me, Knott's did a better job with this concept. Their take feels fun and lively, or the way you'd expect a Roarin' 20s zone to be. The live band, the dancing, the character work; the quiet wink and nod tie in to the maze nearby. It all works seamlessly. Not only do I agree with GA-MBIT, plus there's no reason to be at that corner of the park with no maze entrances or Tribute Store there. It's pretty lifeless. It's made worse by the fact that's there's not really a major stage show to draw a crowd like the Purge, Torture Fair, or Seek & Destroy. (Unless I missed it, which would underscore my point.)
I missed any meaningful fun interactions and world building with the characters. No knock on the quality of the zone, but it probably should have been more Vamp 85 to work in terms of execution, especially this year.
