I feel a new 3D Mario is almost a certainty for the new system's launch. I also expect to finally see a brand new Mario Kart early in the console's lifespan.

What I would do is pair Metroid Prime 4 with Mario Kart at launch and leave 3D Mario for the holiday. Basically repeating the Switch’s year 1 but replacing Zelda with Metroid. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came out a month after launch and look what it did for the console. After all this time to prepare it Mario Kart 9 could be a monster of a game.

The people over at GameXplain made a pretty good point. If Metroid Prime 4 is a no show at next months Direct it’s very likely that it moved development completely to the Switch 2. This is their last chance to show it off for the OG Switch.
This has been thrown around as an idea for awhile now, and I think it's got some merit. I think Pokemon Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 will end up cross-platform like Twilight Princess and BoTW were for their specific gens. Prime 4 will be availaible and able to run on OG Switch, but I think Prime 4 could be a good baseline to show off the Switch 2's superior hardware and graphical capablities.

I think if we go another June Direct without Prime 4, it's gonna be cross-gen.

I also believe they've been sitting on Mario Kart 9 since before the Booster Course pack got announced. I think it's incredibly likely to be a launch title imho.

To me if it’s not there it means it’s an exclusive to the successor. A cross gen game could still be shown with the other version not really being talked about. Also, unless the next system has some crazy new features to take advantage of that the old one can’t do cross gen won’t be needed if there’s backwards compatibility. A performance boost comes naturally these days.

Surprisingly enough there are people that actually doubted this.

Even if it’s not called Switch 2, that’s essentially what it will be. It’s not going to be a radical departure.

Nintendo talking about mergers and acquisitions as a way to combat long development times.
After a quick search online the only studio Nintendo has ever acquired was their purchase of Next Level Games a few years ago. Using that as a metric I could see an acquisition of MercurySteam being possible. What studios do you guys think they could go after?

Personally I think they should build a new western studio like they did with Retro but have them focus on creating new IP.

WayForward feels like a company that'd be a long time coming in the terms of Nintendo scooping it up. WayForward has had a vetted history of support with Switch; and I think that combined with MS would make sense.
__
Meanwhile, Shipping manifest has potentially leaked for the upcoming successor console.

Graphically handheld will be closer to base PS4 before DLSS; but docked mode will be in-between PS4Pro and Series S before DLSS comes into play as-well.

If it's true that this thing is gonna be able to pull off close to Series S levels of power, this is gonna be such an incredible port machine. Especially with backwards compatibility, this will honestly be the ultimate Nintendo console.

Hopefully all of the NSO catalog is available at launch, or they bring back the VC in some way to allow you to play retro games offline.

They already talked about Nintendo accounts moving forward to the new console so NSO should easily transfer over. Either way it doesn’t affect me :p

Nice to see we have another generation of physical media from Nintendo to look forward to even though it wasn’t in doubt at all.

Nintendo has every right to be apprehensive about the upcoming release of new hardware and whether or not they’ll see the same success, but here’s one bullet point that should ease any worries.

Honestly couldn’t have called this one.
If I were Nintendo and I wanted to acquire a port house I would’ve gone after Panic Button as they seem much more skilled. Now that we see Nintendo is willing to buy studios from other publishers in trouble though, that brings someone else to mind. If Ubisoft keeps trending downwards the way they are I’d like to see Nintendo acquire Ubisoft Montpellier and the guys that made Mario + Rabbids. Those would be perfect fits.

I think the reason they went for Shiver Entertainment over another studio was simply because they were for sale, as Embracer is trying to downsize. With this and the acquisition of Next Level Games, they seem primarily motivated to prevent partners they see value in from leaving their system's ecosystem.

Yeah that also came to mind.
