I think they still could, but with a new park and a potential lost continent replacement in the works, they still might be eager to replace KidZone, but their focus could be elsewhere and since what it would replacing wouldn't be high capacity to begin with they could just take the easy/cheap way out..

Why wouldn't it be high capacity?

Sorry I mean it's not like it would be replacing something that a lot of people utilize to begin with, I could be wrong, but I feel they wouldn't necessarily have to worry about increasing capacity or adding patrons as opposed to like when they closed JAWS an Eticket that a lot of people rode. They needed to replace it with something that would eat up as many people if not more than JAWS. I feel like the stakes are LOW on a KidZone replacement.

Personally I feel opening with the weakest offering is... unwise. But hey, that's one solution, yea.

They could announce Pokemon this year. Whatever replaces KZ will probably open in 2021.

However, there is another option. What if Pokemon and Zelda both got announced this year, possibly opening in the same year? It's not as unlikely as some people may think.

IMO, considering the fact that Nintendo wouldn't except anything less-than stellar, whatever replaces KZ will be high-capacity, and LARGE.

I would think with the very recent reversal of JP plans, with it now being a go and first on the list, that would push a Lost Continent redo back a year or two or three.

Not in the same park necessarily. You can only tear up so many key areas at one time. Lots going on at Studios too.

Hypothetical timeline:

2019: Harry Potter Coaster + Jurassic Park redo (?)
2020: Ministry of Magic
2021: Absolutely EVERYTHING ;)

So, how many months would JPRA be down without the Potter coaster being open?

Well, if JPRA goes down at the end of August (preliminary plans), Potter coaster would have to open in late Feb. for it to hit 6 months. That might be pretty optimistic. I'm putting my guess, and it's only a guess, on 8 or 9 months.

Pokémon and Zelda in the same year would sure be something. Or at least close together. I don’t mean one calendar year either, just within 365 days of each other.

Maybe that's the 2021 addition(s)? It would take a miracle, but it would be awesome.

The Hollywood version is rumored to go down for 8-9 months, longer than Guardians 5 month period (excluding when tarps went up).

If this is a thing for Orlando too, I would imagine you would have the attraction until Labor Day.

Both supposed to go down for the same period of time, basically simultaneously. Which kind of tells you they'll both probably have the same results.

the thing is, Universal is fighting to compete with Disney, and to do that they have to grow the parks, not just keep them at the same capacity and quality they’ve always been, a higher caliber attraction in the new KZ doesn’t seem unlikely to me

Even so, given how late Universal announces projects that are already half-built, do we really expect an announcement this year for a new park, just so they can keep their promise of giving us more Nintendo details?

I don't think they handle the new park announcement like they do their normal ride announcements. I think it gets a big reveal with vague concept art whenever the lawsuits are done, plans are approved, and they are ready to break ground. Plans will leak, and they'll want to be able to say something other than no comment or a generic future plans line. I think, ideally, they'd like to make that announcement right around the time SWGE is opening to steal some thunder, but I'm sure they will be moving dirt by then. How the Nintendo announcement factors into that, idk.

Since Nintendo themselves are involved they likely want the announcement as soon as plans are solid. They did push the original announcement after all so it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Mario is the first truly confirmed land for the third park with the rest being more vague.

How long would it take for plans to be approved? Cause I'm pretty sure they already have blueprints at the ready, they just can't do anything yet.
