It's the seventh film of one of the most successful horror franchises in history, even if it's not being made for its artistic merits, I wouldn't say it's being made out of spite either. A seventh Scream film was coming regardless of what the cast consisted of.
Obviously you're entitled to approach the movie however you want and I, again, understand why a lot of people have venom for it. I personally think the Scream franchise overall is pretty overrated (the first is a genre classic, 4 was a strong return to form and the rest of them just feature bits and pieces I enjoy but are overall eh for me) so it's not like I'm donning a suit of armor to defend it, just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I don't think defending an ideal needs to co-exist with tearing down the legitimate, good willed hard work of others but I get it.
