Since almost all of the tickets sold, since Hogwart's Express, are now 2 park passes, differences between the two parks in types of attractions are less important. Most people are visiting both parks during the day, and for all intents and purposes, it's become one massive park. So one park being more screen heavy than the other is less important now. It really shouldn't matter much.

I honestly disagree with this. Even if two-park tickets sell better, I still feel the parks should work on their own and have some individuality on their own. And if we are judging each park on their own, USF still has serious screen (and at times, thematic) issues that Pets would help out on, IMO.

Except that Shrek is in the middle of the park meaning if the building needed to be replaced or expanded it would make it a bigger project and have little room to grow beyond its existing walls unless they completely revamp the area. Shrek is a working attraction (which they need as many of as they can get right now at Universal). The Toon Lagoon Theater is a dead spot, easily accessed from backstage for construction with lots of room for building out a big show building, and thematically bridges Toon Lagoon and MSHI in a lot of ways.

Yeah, this is the one big merit I see out of the Toon Lagoon plan. I'd be okay with it only if it means Toon Lagoon is getting a major upgrade.

Unless Universal decides to renew the king features license in 2018, they will need to find some new toons to put in to Toon Lagoon. SLoP seems like the logical place to start.

I know there is a lot of hate (on here especially) for Shrek, but it still draws crowds and now with Universal's purchase of DreamWorks Animation, it's got more reason to be part of Universal than ever.

Shrek 4D is nothing but a DVD bonus feature. Gut it and do DreamWorks better in the third park.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem suffers from the issue that I would see SLOP having if it's located at Shrek, and that is of the street they are on.

I will always be the firm supporter to just get rid of Shrek 4D at UOR for something like the Universal Plaza from USH. It's open aired, it's a space to cool down; and something that they can have walking space for That section of the park.

Placing SLoP at the Toon Lagoon Theatre makes more sense logically when you consider that it's dead space. It's rarely used, besides private events from time to time (that those private events can be relocated into the Sinbad theatre, BTW) and the special Potter panels for Celebration (similar to that of what I said of Private).

Back onto the USH project though..because, y'know; it seems all but confirmed for USH.

Shrek is worth keeping if for anything the incredibly funny Donkey meet and greet near the exit. (And I hate the actual Shrek attraction.)

That is a great M&G. I always stop for a few minutes and watch, if we're passing by, and it's open. Donkey has some of the funniest lines at any theme park show or M&G. Absolutely entertaining & hilarious. But we do love the Shrek pre show and we enjoy the attraction. And when we were there in May, the special effects were running the best since I was there in it's first year of operation.

If Shrek 4D finally kicked the bucket nothing says the M&G couldn't be kept and then eventually moved.

For anyone nostalgic the attraction will always exist in the same form that BTTF: The Ride does.

Besides, what else would they do with that space? Put up more screenz?

Uh, oh. I hope I didn't give Universal any ideas.:ack:

Shrek gives them capacity they need and costs them next to nothing to keep running. Until they have another plan, they keep it running.

This is also a thread about SLoP, not about everyone's (misplaced) dislike for Shrek.

SLoP will be something new and unique and it will also help keep the balance between the two existing parks if it goes into IoA. It just makes sense with two new attractions already under construction at Studios that another for IoA is logical.

Went on Shrek yesterday. Ride in a non moving seat with my pregnant sister.

I didn't hate it. It felt dated but it had some charm that other attractions lack.

Plus it gives a ride option for my sister and mother, who can't do the other rides. If you look at the park in terms of what someone can do if they can't do jerky rides there is very little to do compared to Disney.

My understanding of the SLOP ride system means it would allow these guests to ride. IOA desperately needs a ride like this since Cat's ride system prevents it from being that ride.

If nothing else, Shrek 4D's characters are written with authenticity and consistency with the established film canon. That can't necessarily be said for some of Universal's more recent attractions, particularly the Potter rides. (Despicable Me thankfully escapes this trend...)

That said, I think as a cohesive experience Shrek is a mess and should go as soon as it conceivably can.

Simpsons and Despicable Me are the only ones I can really say resemble their characters extremely well.

As for SLOP...with what @epcyclopedia said; it makes me really think that this attraction will have no height restriction.

We definitely need more gentle/kid friendly rides. There is a lot to be said for being able to relax on the occasional ride. Suess Trolley comes to mind but it is short.

What are the height requirements for Antarctica/Ratatouille? Oceaneering is supposed to deliver a very similar ride vehicle.

Here's the rundown for Antarctica's ride requirements:

  • Guests less than 48 inches tall must be accompanied by a supervising companion.
  • Guests must be at least 42 inches tall to ride the “Wild Expedition”. Guests between 42 inches tall and 48 inches tall must be accompanied by a supervising companion (at least 14 years old). Guests 48 inches in height or taller may ride unaccompanied.
  • Guests less than 42 inches tall can ride the “Mild Expedition”. Guests between 42 inches tall and 48 inches tall must be accompanied by a supervising companion (at least 14 years old).
  • Handheld infants may not ride.

If they're never going to turn the spinning back on I think CitH needs a major overhaul to make it more of a calm dark ride with no height requirement like what's rumored for SLoP. New/better AAs wouldn't hurt either.

I really thought Seuss Trolley was going to be THAT ride but.. it's length prevents it from being so.

I sure hope everyone who is hoping that this comes to UOR actually goes out and sees the movie. Internally, I'm hearing it needs to hit a certain number on the box office...
