I think a modern Spaceship Earth would actually be an interesting statement piece for a new park. It's also not like they couldn't modify the basic structure to be unique to China, the same way each castle park has its own unique castle.

The R&D could also help justify the desperately needed rework of the existing Spaceship Earth.

I actually liked the idea of SSE pivoting towards storytelling then communication. It can start off as an education tour of communication, but it saves you from looking outdated later on.

I'm personally just excited by the idea of a version of Spaceship Earth that takes us through an Eastern inflected version of history. Imagine all the cool sets you could do between the various Chinese dynasties, early 20th century Shanghai, modern Chinese cities, etc. Like you said, it wouldn't even necessarily have to revolve around communication.
