It's pretty sweet FOR SURE! It's quite an adventure getting there (2 hours of 4 wheeling one way). There are 4 0r 5 streams to cross, too. The last one was up almost mid-door on the Jeep. It's not advertised anywhere (they did tours 6 years ago but the roads are too bad now - we drove past tour groups back in 2010). The setting has changed pretty dramatically in 6 years (as is evident in my Gate pics - tree at the right side and the trees in the background blocking the wall of waterfalls). It's at the base of the highest point on Kauai (Mt. Waialeale). It's one of the wettest places on Earth (they told us 485 in/year on our helicopter tour).
The road is pretty bad! This was taken once you pass the Gate. I literally screamed "T-Rex footprint!" And then I drove through it.
For Mad Dog (Duff beer koozies in hand!)
About a mile past the Gate the road dead ends at a river (cool trail up it to a waterfall). This is where the T-Rex fence was when the power goes out.
This is at the base of the mountain. It's shrouded in clouds, unfortunately...
And don't even get me going about the "eggs"...LOL
Sorry for the off topic sideshow. Just trying to ease the soft opening anxiety.
But one last thing. On the Na Pali coast (which was in JP and Kong)...I edited the picture to show a red line that represents scale. The tiny red line in the middle of the sand is 6 feet tall. I wish you could see how high it rises into the clouds.
Now....DOWN WITH THE WALLS!!!!!
