It's so sad and its so hard to wrap your head around the scale of the devastation and loss. I also really hate how natural disasters have just become fodder for political BS now, it's so stupid and it didn't used to be this way.

this is something i've been thinking about a lot, maybe just as a way to distract myself from the unrelenting horror going on in southern california. i agree that seeing gavin newsom and ron desantis, among others, jump onto twitter to throw barbs at political rivals is as pathetic as it is exhausting.

it's further evidence that so many of these politicians, influencers, tech geniuses, whatever, are primarily motivated by self enrichment and self empowerment. they do not have our best interests at heart and we should not give them the benefit of the doubt.

with that said, this is a political issue in that the admittedly limited tools we as regular people have to solve this issue are primarily political. we can vote. we can protest. we can demand policies that protect the many and make the planet inhabitable for our children and grandchildren. while i'm ultimately rather cynical about our particular form of representative democracy, i think it's worth pointing out that we should be focused on the politics of this moment ... while also acknowledging we should avoid being distracted by grifters and losers that don't care about us.

Scared the crap out of me.

If you're not on Watch Duty, download that app. It gives the best up-to-date info about the fires available.

As of right now, the situation is still the same for me from my last post. I live just slightly west of where the Eaton fires are at, just outside of the evacuation warning zone. I have a bag packed just in case, but as of now the fires are not coming to where I am at.

Sadly, one of my good friends’ parents and his brother lives, well, lived in Altedena, and their house sadly burned down. I go over to Altadena all the time so to hear their house burned down is really sad and bit really close to home.

The family did start a go fund me to help them out. I hope they can get whatever financial support they can get to “rebuild”. While I don’t feel comfortable sharing the link publicly, if you feel so inclined to donate to help them out, I will gladly DM you the link to it if you reach out! Please don’t feel obligated to donate, but if you do, please shoot me a DM.

If you’re worried about forum rules, no need. You can share. If it’s due to privacy concerns or personal reasons, then I understand.

It’s more personal/privacy reasons. I don’t know how they would feel having their faces and names broadcasted into a random forum (I may ask to see how they feel about sharing it publicly). But for now, i will send the link to you personally if you DM.

Trump is blaming the fire on Newsom's efforts to protect the Delta Smelt, a fish which requires water for their habitat. The problem is that the Smelt live in *the SF Bay Area,* over a hundred miles from the Palisades. LA gets its water from groundwater and local aqueducts, not from the rivers that feed into the SF Bay.

He's basically bringing up something unrelated and stupid because talking about the actual problem - climate change - is politically inconvenient for him. He's playing politics while people lose everything they have.

Good news for their pocketbooks, but I worry about the TM’s working outdoors. Hope air quality isn’t horrible tomorrow, and I hope they are showing leniency to anyone who potentially cannot work due to displacement.

Some comments online indicate Universal sent an email saying they're being provided masks. The park pushing to open under these conditions like this is certainly a choice.

I do wonder how many guests will be at the park today and if that really makes it worthwhile.
