In all seriousness, how hard would it be to convert this to a Star Wars themed value hotel? Add a pool, some general theming, windows, make the outside look like a building from Tatooine, and have it staffed by people wearing Star Wars garb. An imperial officer could check you in. A resistance person could handle customer requests. The rooms are small but perfect for a small family or couple and it has a nice dedicated exit to get into/out of the hotel. I haven't been to the place but it seems doable. It would give Disney another value resort, albeit a small one. Plus, my guess is that it would stay booked up. They could create an entrance into DHS from here or use the existing shuttle.

I say all this while recognizing that they wrote this off but that is an accounting entry that could be reversed/modified. The ship may have sailed long ago but it is just an idea. The price point, even as a moderate, would justify its existence and they could see how their occupancy rates hold up over time.

That situation is worsened if they need to allocate more resources on a pool, bus stop, more rooms, more elevators, etc. that would need to be recouped.

It basically had margins so close to be profitable it was doomed to fail.

Good perspective for sure; she did have a crap experience, she made a compelling video argument, but clearly there were folks who had great experiences/different outcomes, too.

I think the extremely glowing reviews and extremely negative reviews for the same thing illustrate my main complaint, that for that high a cost there was too much unpredictability; too much riding on luck and factors beyond my control to spend that much money.

My anxiety would definitely not have allowed me to actually enjoy anything, for fear I was going to miss out on something important or cool at every turn.

I saw Sleep No More over 50 times in New York. I absolutely had some "bad shows" where luck just didn't go my way or other factors I couldn't control (such as missing characters causing crowding issues, terrible audience behavior, and so on).

At its most expensive, a VIP ticket to Sleep No More was around $250, so a "bad" show stung, but it wasn't anything approaching the financial scope of Starcruiser.

And she addresses this in the video where she pre-emptively shows various screens full of tweets of potential counterarguments - it doesn’t invalidate her argument if someone else had a good experience. For the price charged the experience should be consistent for all customers.

Yeah… he straight up trivializes her as an influencer in the first paragraph and doesn’t let up on that thread. It comes across as very “well, she’s not a journalist so you can’t really take what she has to say as anything of actual value… unlike me… the amateur journalist.” His tone is just… straight dismissive. And it’s frustrating when his counter to her comment on the ear piece is “this has been explained…” but he does not explain what the earpiece is for.

I get his argument, but the tone of a fan who feels she wasted her money versus a guy who’s friends worked on the project is much easier to relate to.

I don’t necessarily want to take away from the content of the article that is there. The explanation that it’s a trust/access system comparable to Fallout or Charisma checks in an RPG is actually really insightful. I would argue that, deciding which thread to follow is a simplistic choose-your-own-adventure so they’re both right (but that’s a semantics argument and those are never fun). But arguing “I crammed five folks in a tiny room, so Jenny is wrong for saying it’s unlivable,” is more pedantic than objective. It ignores the point for the gotcha of the sake of being correct. People live through “unlivable” conditions everyday… it doesn’t mean those conditions aren’t unlivable.

Again, there are a couple of valid points (that I wish were more developed). But it’s written in a way that makes it feel as if the writer is personally offended by Jenny’s effort.
