Can’t say I really feel it. Not like the wasteland of Toon Lagoon Theatre or San Fran or Springfield.

Pokemon has probably been in development hell for a while now, maybe they can fast track it to LC and then leave Wicked for Springfield.

Was it? What if extra development time was necessary because location changed and, unlike SNW, the design needed alterations to fit in the new space?

Man, you guys are making it seem like Pokemon is going here for sure and I don't think I like the prospect of that. This is a monster of an IP and deserves way more than 5-6 acres to be done right. LC also leaves zero expansion room anywhere around it.

It wouldn’t be the first time rumors seemed certain about specific locations only for things to get swapped around when it was time to get going.

replacing two bad attractions is a great start for the studios park. but it’s gotta just be a start.

Reasonably I think it’s fair to say Universal only has three classic attractions left at Studios: Mummy, MIB and ET. And as far as we know, those are all safe for a long time forward.

The problem is that a Fast and Furious coaster and whatever they do with the corpse of Supercharged aren’t going to fill all the holes they poked in that park over the last decade or so.

Fallon isn’t great and frankly Minion Blast is embarrassing. San Fran in its entirety needs a redo, and Diagon is overdue for a new addition (but really, where else can you go with Potter?).

Springfield is a when and not if, and the neighboring Animal Actors has to be used for something eventually. Dreamworks Land had potential to be something really neat, but even that feels so underbaked and hollow due to the pre-Epic cuts. Hollywood thankfully remains pretty unscathed- hopefully Bourne is updated to something more timeless eventually, but it’s not that pressing.

You just can’t compare Lost Continent’s tiny two minute walk through to the massive emptiness that is USF currently. LC is prime space, I’m glad they’re doing something with it. People are just so desperate for something groundbreaking and innovative to come to the home park again. I’m not convinced the F&F coaster will do that, and who knows what they’ll do with the Supercharged space.

Gringotts has its fans, but to a lot of people the last truly great ride built there was Mummy two decades ago. Studios needs immense help. The sad part is I think Universal knows it- all the merch and branding for the park is just reminding you of all the cool stuff that isn’t there anymore.

I question how many people, outside of a Universal Parks specific forum, remember Waterworld? And how many are willing to carve out time in their day to see it more than once?
Isn’t the Toon Lagoon theater used for dance competitions, etc? I’d guess that makes Universal enough money to not care.

I don't know how realistic or otherwise this is, but what about Animal Crossing as a concept instead? Has there been any talk of using that IP? I'd say it's as popular as Zelda, but maybe it doesn't quite have the correct qualities for a theme park experience.

I don’t know what’s happening with LC, what I think is interesting about this permit is that it’s… just demolition. Did the Rockit or (more appropriately) DreamWorks use separate permits for demo and construction or was it one permit for everything?

If they demolish everything (assuming Mythos is safe), I will have mixed feelings. I love the ambiance of Lost Continent so much and the temple of Poseidon is beautiful. I remember seeing for the first time back in 1999 and just being impressed. Plus, it remains a great place to sit down and just enjoy the sound of the water, the background music, and the view. However, I never loved the actual attraction. It was okay but kind of a letdown after such an impressive entrance. I always felt that the vortex would have made an awesome entrance to the boarding station for the actual ride.

With that said, it would start providing some balance to the park if they can build a great dark ride or (hopefully) two in that area.

Yes - The first permits for projects like this are the demolition (DEM) permits. There’s also an overall engineering (ENG) permit and a building/fence (BLD) permit attached to this project.

There will be plenty of subsequent permits for site work/foundations/buildings/electric/plumbing etc.

Here’s a look at some of the permits for Rockit’s replacement:

Out of left field, but would love to see a One Piece themed area. Super popular anime, ton of possibilities for attractions or shows and could probably make some adjustments to Mythos to make it fit enough with the pirate theme.

So unless an additional permit is filed, it looks like the Fire Eaters structure is remaining? I was hoping they could relocate the access road between Poseidon and Sinbad to be between Potter and whatever this ends up being to give it a better barrier/berm between.

We don’t know the exact scope of the project area and what’s staying/going yet. The map posted on X was just a rough estimate to show how 4.9 acres could encompass the LC area.

Once a permit is filed with the SFWMD, it should have the project boundary and then we will know more :).

I agree with everyone saying Studios needs this level of project more, but I am just happy to see such a big project coming to the OG parks so quickly after Epic.

I can't help but feel this is going to be Pokemon. I have no info to back that up but it seems right in a way idk,

Pokemon is coming to Japan next year. So why not ride on the media hype by announcing it coming to Orlando at the same time?

I think Universal is going to stick with one of their own IP's and do a land based on the Ice Cube War of the Worlds. ;)

That's a plausible theory. Pokemon will have a fairly small imprint in Japan, not the huge footprint that the Pokemon fans
were hoping for USF. Maybe another twofer using the Spider Man ride system, considered by many as Universal's most
dependable, and best, ride system.....Myself, I'm no great fan of Pokemon for IOA, so I'm hoping for a different IP.

Everyone assumes a interactive element would be required for a ride like this but i am trying to imagine a JWA style scoop system to differentiate it from SM.

It would be odd to have 3 of those rides in one general area but if its different enough it could work.

This is USJ's Spider-Man/Pokemon show building over current LC plot. The access road is in the way, so I'd imagine they'll have to relocate it slightly if they use the exact same ride layout/system as the USJ version.

If it's more animatronic-driven and features less motion, I'd be ok with it.

Hey all! I know it's been sometime since I have posted (work life in the new role has been crazy) and I'm still "Shark Bait." But I wanted to share this with you guys. Our tourism reporter Patricia Tolley got a short confirmation from Universal on the permit work. I wish it was a bunch of detail, but it at least focuses the work on the area suspected. We dropped the paywall if anyone is curious for the read.

Hope the forum is doing great! This is exciting stuff, I miss it.
