If Pokemon was going to go to USF where Simpsons is, but Simpsons isn’t closing for 3 more years (even if contract not extended), perhaps The Pokemon Company (and Universal) don’t want to wait that long?

Either way, IOA stays winning.

So... if demo starts in a few weeks or early 2026, it puts an opening sometime around mid 2028 to 2029?

If that's the case, there's a gap year between Rockit replacement and Lost Continent. EU's first expansion? Something over at USF?

Both Domestic and Internationally historically. I never was comparing Jurassic World Rebirth to Wicked domestically. Domestically Rebirth had a ton against it and still was the biggest movie of the summer(Stitch came out in the spring), i doubt it would have made 480 million domestically like wicked did. However If rebirth had premium large format screens for longer then a week, an IMAX run AT ALL, and a better received predecessor we'd possibly be looking at another billion dollar + movie in the franchise.

My statements have always been about comparing the two franchises overall historically and the future prospects of popularity in the parks for the future. I'm all for a WIzard of Oz land with walking characters from wicked, but a Shiz themed land with little to do with the original Wizard will feel too much like potter 2.0 and won't have universal appeal.

If I'm wrong I will gladly own up to it, but comparing the longevity of something like Jurassic World to Wicked is just really off to me.

Are we really arguing for more of an IP that already has its own land vs. something completely brand new?

Having Potter and Pokemon right next to each other would be absolutely brutal for crowds, so I hope it's not that. Hogsmeade is crowded enough as it is.

No, the argument was in response to the claim that Wicked as an IP was equal in popularity to Jurassic Park/World. While Wicked is one of Universal's largest IPs, and it is very possible it will eventually receive an attraction and/or land, I don't think it's unreasonable to state that Jurassic is Uni's biggest in-house property by a mile, and nothing comes even remotely close.

It would definitely be a departure from the received wisdom that tells you to put big attractions at each corner to spread out crowds.

But maybe once they convert the TL Amphitheater to the One Piece version of Waterworld and swap Hulk for Elphaba things will balance out.

I still end up going to USF more than IOA, considering HHN and Mardi Gras.

While I agree Jurassic is #1, I think Wicked is a little bit closer than people realize, just because we have to take into account its Wizard of Oz attachment.

And while Universal may have never seen one cent of it, nearly $2 billion in Broadway gross is A LOT for a play. If Part 2 does just the same in the BO, you're looking at a gross of almost $3.5 billion for the Wicked franchise alone, AND THEN you add the Oz factor.

The OG is projected to top a billion in profit this year just from Sphere showings alone.

It’s quite fascinating that we might be looking at the same sequence of additions as we did back in 2008/2009. Rockit was a quick and easy coaster build to bolster the lineup at USF while IOA prepared to open the biggest IP land in its history. Now Rockit’s replacement likely has the same intended purpose at USF while IOA once again prepares to open another massively popular IP land.

If Orlando really wanted to get a feel for how those animes would do, you could easily bring a version of Fan fest to Orlando with an expanded anime area. Replace the Star Trek or DnD experience with something related to one of those animes and see the response.

Honestly, it wouldn't be a bad idea to test market though fan fest for those different parks.

It wouldn’t. But I also think we’ll need to see if Hollywood to decide to expand its anime options before saying Orlando should just expand the anime. Again, there does not (and has not) appeared to be the same appetite for anime in Orlando as in California.

It’s also the 4th longest running musical on Broadway with a tour and international productions.

Just as a point of clarity, Universal does see quite a lot of money from the Wicked stage productions. The show is produced by Universal Stage Productions/Universal Theatrical Group, which is a division of Universal Pictures.
