They could easily replace the ride system with the one used for Mario Kart, but what would be the ROI on such an expenditure be for such a dated IP?

The reason why MIB: International got made was because Will Smith decided he didn't want to do MIB 4. If there's ever a change of heart between him and Sony once everything blows over, MIB can still be a strong brand again, just like how the Bad Boys franchise was resurrected.

Not to drag out last weekend, but I don’t see that happening sadly anymore, not for a decade at least where they can introduce Jaden as his predecessor.

I mean to kinda put a bow on this, they both would probably prefer that anyway and it would provide some cool symmetry in that Jaden could create a theme song for the movie just like his dad did, as Jaden is still a very active musician.

And the reason it flopped was because the IP wasn’t enough to save a mediocre film.

So what you're saying is that people didn't care to see a mediocre film from a franchise they had known Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to Star in. Not Surprising.

What i'm saying is if Will Smith starred in another MIB film, you can bet it would put up big numbers. Do you think Bad Boys For Life makes hardly any money if they had spun it off and put two random actors in that space? Save for Dwayne Johnson, there's no one that has the pull anymore. i'll argue that Ryan Reynolds, Leonardo Dicaprio, and possibly Timothee Chalomet are bankable faces as well, but they don't work in a Bad Boys movie.

Hemsworth doesn't work outside the MCU. Everything Hemsworth has tried has been bad, tbh. His stuff with NatGeo is great, but that him just being him.

Honestly? My hot take is if Bad Guys from Dreamworks becomes a hit, overlay/re-do themed to that. Sure you could figure out a gadget for the ride system to help them out. An idea for a ride where you’re the villain instead of the hero, is fun! I guess Minions/MM you’re villains but this would be more direct imo.

Then why did Men in Black 2 and 3 see diminishing returns, especially 2 which saw only 70% of the first movie’s box office. I mean, they had the two expected actors. That’s right. It was a terrible movie (38% on Rotten Tomatoes). And the stink of it has lingered. That wasn’t helped by International, a movie that was even worse (23%). More so, the entire premise is that the Agents are replaceable. The franchise is a bit like Bond in that way. The movie quality matters to reception.

Comparatively, Bad Boys For Life is sitting at 76% with a 98% audience score. Its critical reception is better than all three sequels to Men in Black, by a noticeable degree.

Let’s not pretend a better movie, regardless of stars, couldn’t save the franchise.

After MIB 2 though came MIB 3... 10 years later.

The worldwide gross for MIB 3 was the highest of the franchise at $650M+. Now I get inflation and everything like that, so technically original MIB probably made more money in the scheme of things. Let's not pretend though like MIB 3, which was a 68% fresh film and 70% audience score (which i'll admit is a bit soft), didn't help the MIB brand.

To get to the core of what *hurt* the brand, specifically with MIB 2, is Sony. They stumbled upon gold and were eager to make another movie, which yes, turned out to be crap, but it was still one of Sony's highest grossing movies ever. I'm not sure if there was studio interference on MIB 2 or why it was so bad, but this franchise really doesn't have to be this way, a lot of it is similar to how they've handled it. I look at the MIB: International the same I do Ghostbusters (2016). It's about a studio that doesn't have many big franchises looking for any way possible to squeeze another dime out of the brand, even if it means leaving what made it popular behind.

You can still see Sony trying to do this in many ways with Uncharted. Sure it's a new brand to movies, but it's been around on the video game side of things since 2007. A movie was finally made with Sony's biggest studio movie star in Tom Holland, coming off of the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Uncharted still has only managed $373M worldwide and a 41% rotten score, although an impressively high 90% audience score. I think an Uncharted sequel is pretty much guaranteed, but will it increase upon the audience it has impressed or will it have a box office fall off next time and have everyone wishing they never green lit the movie?

I guess my point is, Sony typically sucks as a studio unless they are being guided by Marvel Studios.

Enjoy the ride now it's still there.
If anything is certain at Universal it is that there is always an end of life to every attraction and show.

I think a Ghostbusters shooter attraction would be a great replacement if MiB has to go

Rode MIB yesterday and I think it's in the same state as JPRA... "Give it a proper refurb or get rid of it."

I hate saying that, but animatronics were off, effects not working, etc.

A few years ago they quietly gave love to MiB and it was amazing to see all the effects come back to life nightly, I hope they can do it again. When everything is working all I want is new blasters

The whole Will Smith controversy is interesting in a lot of ways I must say. People’s reactions have been annoying to say the lea

I agree we don’t when Uni will decide the close the ride so you might as well enjoy while it last.

I would refrain from saying that till VillainCon opens. We don't know what it looks like or what exactly is, so its not fair to presume that it will be an "adequate substitute" just because its going to be a shooter ride.

VillainCon seems to be MIB, but for the toddlers. So us adults likely won’t enjoy as much, sure.

Villain-Con is tiny. It will not be a substitute for a real dark ride, that's for sure.

I fear this attraction has a 3 minute pre show and a 1:50-2 minute ride experience.
