The extended preview for Nolan's The Odyssey that screened in IMAX theaters was thrilling af. LOVED getting to see the Trojan Horse. Epic, cool stuff. Wasn't particularly excited for this film, but I sure as hell am now! Give it to me, Daddy Nolan!

Easily the film I'm most excited for next year. Nolan's only made one movie I haven't really enjoyed (TENET, and even that one has some amazing stuff in it).

I clearly just don’t care about this story. It obviously looks well made, not familiar with the story admittedly, but nothing truly gripped me here. Again. It does not look bad I’m just sure this isn’t a story for me it seems?

For what it's worth, the Odyssey is a very well-known epic (As well as Epic: The Musical which is pretty darn nice!) and it provides plenty for a film.

At the same time, this trailer does nothing for me. This is by no means a knock on the film itself, it's purely a knock on the trailer which chooses to not do much. I can fully understand not wanting to reveal certain things, but you can still make an intriguing trailer...this just isn't.

Wait, you weren’t taught it? That’s bizarre. It’s usually either taught in English or History.

I read the story in full--was probably the only time I was invested in actual English literature being learned.

The IMAX preview feels like it does the film a better justice. The sense of scale in set pieces, alongside the fact that Nolan seems to be embracing the more "fantastical" aspect of The Odyssey that has been an understandable concern on if he'd actually lock in on.

As someone who loved studying Mythology in JR High and High School and absolutely devoured The Iliad and The Odyssey, this is easily #1 most anticipated movie in 2026 for me.

I cannot wait to see his interpretation of the Cyclops, the Laestrygonians (man-eating giants), Scylla and Charybdis (basically a hydra and a living whirlpool filled with teeth), and some accurately monstrous Sirens (half woman: half bird) - not to mention all the Gods and Goddesses (Poseidon, Helios, Athena, Hermes, Calypso, Circe, etc). What a time to be a nerd!

Only downside for me so far is that it seems Anne Hathaway is playing his wife. Absolute waste not having her as a pissed off goddess IMO.

Appreciate others weighing in but like, I see a big dude in a cave and some guys rising from the grave. That means we're getting Nolan is doing the mythological, fantastical stuff and that's enough for me.

Inception had a similarly muted color palette and that still has some of the best, fantastical action set pieces in modern film. I have no doubt that this will be a thrilling, inspired blockbuster and we're all gonna have a great time.

Having lunch post Odyssey—this is a near perfect film.

The only criticism I have is that specific sequences could have been shorter; but it was a non stop ride from beginning to end. Samantha’s performance as Circe deserves awards for what she did as that.

Absolutely amazing movie. Living in South Florida I of course had to see it on the biggest IMAX screen here in glorious 70mm

The little shot of Zendaya at Troy absolutely floored me, completely turned the movie on its axis.

I still don't totally know if the movie works in the middle but Nolan is also operating at a level of narrative ambition that's not really seen in blockbusters at this scale. And yes, the Circe scene was absolutely bonkers.

Act 3 Spoilers you be warned:
The entire Act 3 portion of Troy when Odysseus tells Penelope of things in general is probably one of the best scenes this year. It feels like you are walking a mile in the shoes of a man who planned a scenario where it ensured the guaranteed victory of the army; but it also villainized and painted the actions done by his men and Agamemnon as truly monstrous.

It hits the right chord of discomfort and scale that makes it hit all the more when Athena is "Killed" in Troy (also--the fact we now loop back to the teaser poster making complete sense too). It's genuinely peak Nolan.

Just seen it in cinema and it's a cinematic masterpiece. It's an old fictional story told in current cinematic language. You could compare it to Moulin Rouge, the depiction of the era, language etc are not at all close to what the original nightclub had to offer. If they done that everyone would get bored and laugh about how lame the Moulin Rouge was at the time. So they translate it to modern time standards.
Acting, visual, music, everything is on the highest level and I enjoyed it a lot. Together with Oppenheimer, Prestige, Batman and Memento this movie is in my best of Christopher Nolan.

The fact you don’t even mention Dunkirk, Inception or arguably his greatest movie in Interstellar just shows what an amazing group of works this man and the team he surrounds himself with has created.

Cameronesque (but way faster).

I saw it last night in IMAX 70mm and really enjoyed it but need to see it again to fully form my thoughts. The episodic narrative isn't the most digestible for a first watch, especially when the film's main themes aren't quite drilled in until the third act. My expectations were maybe a little too high coming off Oppenheimer, so a rewatch will actually help my process it as a singular entry in Nolan's filmography.

There are a few sequences here that are among the absolute best scenes Nolan has made, especially Circe.
