Some of the ideas being thrown around are a little out there. My Little Pony? Hello Kitty? I'm surprised no one's suggested Barbie or Monster High. Whatever is coming to KidsZone is going to be unisex. As popular and as much as I'd kill to see TMNT, I think it's too boyish; especially after TF. As a parent I can tell you Scooby Doo is still pretty popular with girls and boys. How and why that franchise has been underutilized is mind-boggling! A Scooby dark ride makes so much sense.

My Little Pony actually really isn't that "out there". Universal gained a pretty close relationship with Hasbro when they did the Transformers ride, and MLP just so happens to be one of their top franchises along with TF. As I said before, the 2010 reboot of the MLP show has gotten high merch sales and has a more wider range of appeal than most other girl franchises. Putting it into the Kidzone really isn't that different from putting in Dora the Explorer. (But again, I don't want to start a huge argument over MLP's possibility like what happened before, so I'm just going to let perspectives be perspectives here.) I don't see the issue with putting in at least one or two gender specific attractions in the Kidzone, as long as the majority of the rest of the zone is uni-sexual.

But I agree that Hello Kitty is a long shot at best.

And yes, I'd love to see Scooby-Doo get a presence in the area as well.

I'm pretty sure I've said it before, but I'm ALL for keeping and upgrading E.T. I feel that's the best ride in the park in many ways--queue especially, but it needs some love in the form of major capital expenditure to update it and keep it modern/relevant for the modern theme park crowd. I'd be heartbroken if it ever left and it will someday...I just hope not in the near future.

E.T. 2.0 and Woody's Nuthouse Coaster are great fits to stay in the new Kidzone. Everything else can be replaced...but that's just my opinion.

Just to mention something on Hello Kitty (my wife loves her and tries to get my daughter to like her with some success), anyway, I think she would be a long shot for I read somewhere this year that Kiss (Gene Simons) was doing some show with her. The last time I was in Sugar (a candy store) they had a bunch of Kiss Hello Kitty merchandise. So my thought is that if Gene has some licensing rights to Hello Kitty, it might be a tough property to get.

Btw I do feel like my Kid Zone ideas are realistic. I mean why not Scooby Doo, TMNT, or SpongeBob?!

I'd say anything considering what properties Universal currently has (SpongeBob, Dora, Scooby, etc.) what relationships with what companies Universal has (Hasbro, Nickelodeon, Hanna-Barbera) and how successful what franchise is in selling merchandise are all educated guesses.

Real long shots would be guessing Cartoon Network, 90s Nickelodeon, or at this point, Dreamworks.

TMNT is by far my favorite suggestion I've seen here.. longevity, popularity among all age groups due to it's length of relevancy. I like.

We all can argue back and forth every day about the longevity of each and every kid-centric IP, as well as the plausibility of the idea of it coming to Universal, until we die. But like many have said, there isnt one magic IP thats going to just 'cure' the drab KidZone.

The problem with this guessing game is that we are arguing the popularity and longevity of franchises without thinking of how they translate into theme park attractions. For example, My Little Pony may be popular right now--it may have huge viewership and tons of merchandise potential, but does that make it right for a theme park attraction? Would it attract the audience that Universal wants to attract? Or are we just suggesting it incessantly because its the only franchise at the top of our heads that has popularity with children at the moment?

What we arent considering is that many theme park rides can be based on IP's that arent neccesarily catered TO children but can still work as great kids rides. I know theres a great Sesame Street ride in Singapore, but think about who that kind of property attracts in America...little kids who probably dont appreciate large-scale dark rides anyway. Then think about something like Transformers, a property that is most certainly not kid-friendly by most standards yet has lent itself to a ride that is enjoyed by all ages. Its not about the property, but about the ride that is created. My daughters favorite attraction (besides Despicable Me) is Storm Force Accelatron, and she doesnt give a rats tail about the X-Men. My other daughter is really partial to Men in Black, though she hasnt seen the movie and probably wont until shes a little older. But both those properties, though they wouldnt really come to peoples mind at first as making great kid rides, offer themes that everyone, even children, can relate to, and lend themselves to solid ride systems that arent super intense. Its about the story and attraction itself, not the IP, IMO.

So we can all talk about how great My Little Pony is...in the TV forum. Because Im sure lots of people do like it and think its successful. But HERE, I feel like the focus shouldnt be on the popularity or G-ratedness of each and every property, but moreso what properties will lend themselves to solid rides that can be enjoyed by children.

That's all a matter of perspective, really. From my view, there's plenty of aspects of the new version of the My Little Pony show that would lend itself greatly to a dark ride or even a small mini-land with some unique food options and merchandising. There are literally dozens of creative attraction ideas I could form out of MLP.

I'm sorry, but the premise of your whole argument seems to based on that there's nothing in My Little Pony that would work in a theme park. And again, from my perspective, that's far from the truth.

You can think differently, but I still firmly believe MLP would be a great move for the new Kidzone. I'm thinking in both how valuable the IP is and how well it would work in terms of theme park execution, so I don't think it's right to assume otherwise of me.

So what I'm saying is, I agree to disagree. I would like to get off of this whole MLP discussion, anyway.

With that said...

...sooooooo in a desperate attempt of mine to change the subject, what ideas do all of you have for an upgraded E.T. Adventure?

^not to derail your subject change, but my post isnt all about My Little Pony...just that in quality theme park rides its not all about the IP, but more the ride itself. So arguing over actual franchises may be irrelevant, because kid-friendly rides can be derived from several properties that arent necessarily Cartoon Network shows or G-rated animated movies.

Ok, when I was speaking earlier about Scooby Doo I was assuming whatever suggestions were made were only to replace Fievel, Curious George area. I NEVER want E.T. replaced.....never! A re-do I am ok with. They already took away my beloved Back to the Future. Please don't take away E.T. too:-X

Okay, I understand and I can agree that the quality of the ride should matter more than the IP itself. Sorry for getting a little snappy there, it's just that these kind of arguments can take a lot out of me.

As much as I love Springfield how it is I would still love to see Animal Actors get replaced by something Simpsons. Even though we have been told that Universal is probably done with The Simpsons you never know and I think it could be good opportunity to maybe put The Simpsons' house. Possibly as the meet and greet? Or a power plant type attraction. Now I know this will never happen I just think it would be a really great idea. The Kids Zone needs another family dark ride along with E.T. and a couple more kiddie rides for the little ones. My preferred IP's are and will continue to be TMNT, Scooby Doo, SpongeBob, and Dora to take Barneys place. These IP's have always been popular and will continue to be popular for a long time.

I'm gonna lock my prediction with these

SpongeBob (Animal Actors space)
the dreaded Smurfs lol (Fievel) - makes it easier to mask E.T. with a mountain or mini-forest
Dora (Barney)
My Little Pony (Curious George and surrounding backstage space)
Woody Woodpecker (stays in place but track is expanded and AAs are added)
Hello Kitty (next to MLP - small shop/cafe)
TMNT (part of Springfield/MIB plot - gives a perfect sci-fi transition for a Syfy City later on)

While one special attraction gets saved from demolition

ET (entrance relocated to Garden of Allah area, major upgrade in 2015)

My predictions-
- Animal Actor Theater stays But gets a new show or re-vamped Animal Actors.
- Feivel gets turned into Smurf Village
- Woody Wood Pecker leaves (kids don't know who he is) New Junior Coaster
- George turned into Nickelodeon themed area/ Sponge Bob
- Barney torn down & turned into dark ride
- ET entrance moved out of Kidzone and given a bigger & more grand entrance.

If SpongeBob's going anywhere, it'll definitely be towards the front of the Kidzone, since that's where his store is.

I could see them demoing Animal Actors and putting SpongeBob-something there.

I only picked Smurfs because Smurf Village would look great regardless of how bad the new Smurf movies are. And it provides a way to mask ET's hideous show building :P Oh, I forgot Scooby!! Maybe in between MLP/Hello Kitty miniland and the Nuthouse coaster? Either way, I think Scooby should get some sort of attraction along with a permanent M&G area

I could see SpongeBob getting a water ride since USF doesn't have any now that JAWS is gone and KidZone Pizza is 95% confirmed to be Krusty Krab or SpongeBob something due to where it is. But I think a Splash Battle ride or a trackless Boating School dark ride would both be great additions - something KidZone needs

I highly doubt we'd see the Smurfs, Dora, or My Little Pony in Kidzone. The newest Smurfs movie has been a flop, Dora(though in the parade)is pretty dated, and what is it with some of you and this new MLP fascination? It's a very feminine property and I just don't see it being popular enough to base a ride off of.

Heck, most cartoons aren't around long enough to warrant attractions.

...as I keep saying, the reason we're talking about My Little Pony is because the new version of the show has a more wider range of appeal, has made remarkable merch sales, Universal has a close relationship with Hasbro, and there's many aspects of the new series that would translate well into the theme park environment. It's popular enough. I suppose to some it's a long shot, but for the time being I'm keeping it within the realm of possibilities until we get more information regarding what's going to happen to the KidZone.

(^ For now on I think I'm gonna quote this post whenever someone questions MLP. )

Dora isn't old at all. The show is still going pretty strong.

The Smurfs, I can agree with you on at least.
