So, heads up everyone. TF is virtually open and this is when many here turn their distracted heads toward Diagon, ala Sauron's eye. Ride and theming details are going to come out starting soon. Scenes, windows, props, tech and concept renderings will be exposed. Perhaps even revelations of coming technical effects and methods will be revealed, long before Universal opens the area.

Oh I don't know what to do :P I love to find out whats going on but I would love to just turn up to it without a clue and see everything in person for the first time. Decisions, decisions.

Geeez, OI is driving bonkers lately... is this its fake newz again? The buildings have numbers but not names. Is it implying that each of the shops real or facades are being shuffled around? That would only make sense with something like the Neep.

Kinda to expand on Teebin, is he saying internally? Because as Teebin said they all have numbers, I believe in the in the area of 230-240. Or is he implying they are changing the actual themed names of the stores in the facades? Either way, meltdown?

Not trying to defend him, or maybe... I really do enjoy his constant UOR updates and pics... Anyways, he did correct himself shortly after that:

A lot of the facade shop names are names taken from "existing" DA shops. I'm guessing they're just taking those facade shops' names to DA when it's built and paint new names for the Hogsmeade shops so there aren't two Wiseacres and two of this and that between parks. I'll be surprised if they change the actual window displays though. But yeah, don't count on any of the actual shops being changed up at all.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey has been constantly breaking down today. Just thought I'd give an update on that...

Was it people getting sick on the ride or actually breaking down?

Actually breaking down. No volume. The video has been going wonky. Plus the benches were ceasing to move as well.

They should get on that pronto.
I'm sure they will be giving it some attention tonight and tomorrow before opening.

I've heard but not personally been able to confirm or deny that all the simulated scenes of FJ have been changed, both animation and movement to take out some of the more intense and dizzying portions. Anyone able to confirm/deny from the last day or so?

^ Speaking of which, does anyone know what the frame rate of the dome projections is? The industry claims that a higher frame rate should reduce the "sick" factor.

All of Universal's ride media looks like 60FPS to me. Could be 48FPS at the minimum though.

Does anyone think it would be likely that Universal rebuilds or even just re-paints the large wall behind DC?

They had the hardware to do 720p at 60fps or 1080i at 30fps, I imagine they used the later.

Are you talking FJ or in general? Spidey, TF, and Despicable Me's ride media are all rendered at 4Kp and higher than 30FPS. Regardless, the projections are pre-rendered so Universal could set them at whatever they want. It shouldn't be like a video game where renderings and calculations for stuff like physics are done in real time on actual hardware. It's like a film.

I play a lot of games myself and can easily spot the difference between 30 FPS and anything higher. Riding Spidey, the very first thing I noticed was the fluidity of the ride film. FJ's also looked very smooth to me, same with Uni's other screen-based attractions. I can't say exactly how high they are but they're definitely not 30FPS. A higher framerate would also reduce motion sickness, with more frames providing a smoother image and giving the brain more information to process. 30FPS looks choppy in comparison and wouldn't make sense to me.

Yeah, that was my point of my original question. So, it appears no one here really knows.

FYI: Sometimes I bring things up on here that I could just make a few calls or emails and get the answer to. I don't do that just because I enjoy the conversations here to share ideas. Let me check on FJ tomorrow. As it appears in flux, I may come up with two different answers.

I would bet on either 48FPS (double traditional movies' 24FPS, also seen in The Hobbit's high frame rate version), 60FPS (the max for most consumer TVs/monitors), or 120FPS (the max for the less common TVs/monitors that support it). In theory, producing higher FPS video would cost more money (since more frames have to be rendered) and the higher the FPS, the lesser the returns. I've talked to plenty of people that see 60FPS as the limit due to their eyes. A few I've talked to don't even notice 60FPS as such a huge jump from 30, which it is.

Really interested to hear what you find and also, I'd be interested if there is a standard FPS for all of Universal's ride films. Simpsons' film is another that looks really smooth to me.

I know at DM:MM the 2 pre-show films are 24fps, the main ride film is 4k pixel / 60fps. Not 100% on any others.
