Does anyone have an idea what limitations they would have for fireworks above the castle? Also how many people would even be able to be in view of the show? I dont think they can open up any meaningfull space as it stands now.

I would not get your hopes up for fireworks above the castle, for a few reasons of both USH and IOA having against them.

I'm not sure by what you are asking. Are you refering to the backstage road or are you talking about the 439?

Hmm, that I wouldn't be sure about it. But there is something to keep in mind for IOA's hogwarts, more importantly; how close it is to the Dr. Phillips High School and the residental homes. I would assume that it could get a MUCH BIGGER fuss from the community if Universal were to do a nighttime firework show with the fireworks going off that close to the homes and school.

IOA inexplicably has no lagoon show. That I'll never understand - especially with the surge in attendance.

Honestly, it was literally built for a lagoon/fireworks show. I remember a concept for a show posted a while back that was honestly perfect for a show. It was in a different thread. Each land had its own scene, and it seemed to work perfectly.

I saw the original show when the park opened. It was pretty good. No idea why they haven't tried again now that attendance is up.

I just found a piece of interesting fireworks & noise info from Sam Gennaweys' new book (Jaybangs) based on extensive interviews with Jay Stein, Universal Orlando's founder. ....."The USF planners were worried that noise from fireworks would create issues with neighbors. Swann (MCA Universal attorney) got a call from Tony Sauber, who had been behind Swann at Duke Law School. Swann considered him a very smart guy, and they worked together in revising the city's noise ordinance. While most of the the ordinance provisions were relatively standard, they accomplished having the noise level measured at the point of receipt, not emanation (which had been the customary standard), USF planners were triumphant with the new ordinance. It was especially useful when Islands of Adventure opened because, unlike USF, it had big , noise making rides close to a school. "

I've only seen it listed on Amazon. I had checked Barnes & Noble last month and they didn't have it. The full title is: Jaybangs, How Jay Stein and Universal Invented the Modern Theme Park and Beat Disney at it's Own Game. Written by Sam Gennawey... Interesting background to the book. Jay Stein read Gennawey's previous book on Universal/Disney and saw that various people were taking credit for things they didn't do. So he got in contact with Gennawey and told him he would give him the real story on what happened during those years. I'm only half way through but it's an interesting read, and it really gives a good background on why Universal does things different than Disney and emphasizes different types of attractions. Most of the discussions we have here about thrill rides versus family rides, screens etc. have deep roots and history in the MCA/Universal philosophy........Interesting point about IP's I haven't seen anywhere else. Stein said Disney ruined the IP situation. Prior, Universal never paid rights for IP's. They had convinced the IP holders that Universal advertising their TV shows and movies as Universal tour highlights & attractions was sufficient payback. So they never paid to use a concept. Disney started paying for rights and then the fees exploded once IP holders realized they could get money for the rights.

Definitely. It reinforces some info & conceptions and dispels lots of other info and misconceptions. And it gives great insight into the tug and pull that goes on behind the scenes. Some of the issues we talk circles around have some real common sense business history & background. The main thing I get from this is that Universal is definitely a different creature than Disney and has really never wanted to be what Disney is. They do their own thing and believe in their concepts.

We've been trying to talk about this since early this year due to substantial hints from something we're not allowed to mention on this site (how's that for getting around the restriction? ) So hopefully this, and a few other surprises and changes, pop up in various manners & times in 2017.

Slightly off topic, but I had no idea Universal had chopped down the greenery in the buffer area between Jurassic Park and Hogsmeade. Based on the picture in that link, I think it looks pretty terrible. Too bad. The trees that were there really helped sell the scale of Hogwarts, added character and atmosphere to photos of the castle from the bridge, and acted as at least an attempt to not totally compromise the transition into and out of JP.

Along with the absence of the iconic gates at the other side of Jurassic Park, it's another example of Universal giving the short end of the stick to that land... but this time with the side effect of undercutting Hogsmeade, as well. Minor things in the grand scheme, but still kind of disappointing.

I imagine, or am hoping for, something akin to what AK is doing for the tree of life..3 or 4 shiws periodically that take place every 30mins..I still want a huge nighttime show on the lagoon that unites the park

Don't mean to derail the topic but have you read the previous book you mentioned as well? Both of them sound interesting and I might buy one, but want to know if I should get the most current one or the previous one.
