Yes our government is rubbish and it will be things like it's stance on net zero. Universal will be expected to run a billion pound theme park on renewable energy which is impossible.

On a more commemorative note, it’s nearly a year since the news broke that this potential park was being considered.

I think all quoted time frames direct in person from universal representatives at the consultations (“you will know by the end of the year”) are now out of the window.

It’d be awesome if they did announce it. Or at least say everything’s changed, and it’s a no go etc.

I don't think my heart could take a no go announcement :sob: I'm hoping it's just a bit of a delay due to the change in government. If some jumping spider or NIMBY prevents us getting a good themepark I'm moving to Florida

Tbf our energy policy is bat s.h.i.t :lmao: Blackouts a few years down the line are a possibility. But I don’t think that’s the reason for this taking so long :lmao:

1. Net zero is not a real thing.
2. We don't have any insight into why this process has been delayed
3. Say what you will about the U.K. government (I have!) but they're negotiating with Comcast, one of the most loathsome corporations amid a sea of loathsome corporations

They must have some sort of rough layout sketched or plan. IIRC, earlier this year. Tomfoolery said the IPs at UGB were no where near being set in stone. Considering how the projected opening date is 2031 per Tomfoolery, Universal is taking their time on that front.

I would imagine a decision would have to be made at the latest by the end of 2025? Considering their projected timeframes.

Bedford Council have a page on Universal Destinations & Experiences the date for a decision has been moved to March 2025 when previously it was December, this might solely be because they don’t expect an Executive Meeting in Jan/Feb

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but...Here’s an idea I’ve been considering based on this rough layout: wouldn’t it make more sense to place the City Walk area in the center? This way, it could serve as a natural hub, with the upper section potentially functioning as a second gate for the park, offering access to both areas from that central location. As it stands, the current layout feels a bit disjointed to me.

Looks like the new government has plans for councils and mayors.

I’m not sure this is going to help Universal in their decision / project…

Apologies it’s a bit political, curious on people’s thoughts.

'New mayor' for Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes

A mayor could cover six combined authorities across Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes.

There's a rumour flying around that the Director for Show Design & Production at Disney Imagineering has left his role at Disneyland Paris, and being recruited by Universal for the GB park.

There's not much to substantiate this - but the person in question does exist, was in that role with Disney, and left a couple of weeks ago / has indicated they're looking for a new role.

So even if it's not an accurate rumour, sounds like someone Universal should be talking to :)

Can't believe we're over a year since the announcement and still haven't had any further news.

I assume its because they have sooooo many projects right now

Epic is finishing up, and HHN in Vegas is also close to being done, Texas is still in its kinda early stages, USH is prepping for the hotel/security changes

But I hope by sometime next year this project starts moving

I’d imagine once Epic is open they’ll start to move on other projects more.

I wouldn’t doubt it’s also about consequential elections in the past 12 months on both sides of the Atlantic and wanting to know which way the winds are blowing before committing billions of dollars to another park until there’s a better idea of what the future holds.

I suspect we'll have to wait at least a year to find out, but not listing any new job could be seen as an indication they are running down a non-compete period.

Indecision can also cost a lot of money, whilst a lot of the staff responsible for designing and building a park will be temporary or sub-contracted, they must have some permanent staff, especially at the management level, who are already budgeted for. It's very costly to put the brakes on a big project once it already has some momentum.
