Seems like the easiest to fix too.. like just make more stuff. The ride just goes on and on with little to nothing to draw your attention

The budget couldn’t have been no more than $200 million.

If they have plans to replicate this across the country a half million dollar budget sounds kinda high not counting any issues or unforeseen circumstances they encounter during project development and construction.

Curious if that includes land as well, which is by no means cheap.

The $550 million number comes from the city of Frisco. [Source]

Quote:
The City of Frisco, along with its Frisco Community Development Corporation (FCDC) and Frisco Economic Development Corporation (FEDC), also agreed to provide total $12.7 million in economic incentives, which includes $2 million in sales tax reimbursement for materials. The $10.7 million in grants will support infrastructure improvements for streets, roads and utilities (water, sewer, electric, gas, telecommunications) related to the theme park.

The performance-based incentives will be awarded in two,10-year phases. Phase I provides $8.7 million, including $1 million in sales tax reimbursements for materials. Phase II provides $4 million, which also includes another $1 million in sales tax material reimbursements. Performance requirements call for the park to be open for business no later than June 30, 2026 and for Universal to invest a minimum of $550 million in project construction. Universal anticipates creating 175 full time jobs and 1,400 seasonal, part-time jobs. The development agreement notes at least four ‘immersive themed lands’ designed for young children, as well as a 300-room hotel with a resort-style swimming pool. The development agreement calls for ‘promotional discounts or special offers’ for residents during non-peak periods at the developer’s discretion. The agreement also provides a half-day park access for a city employee appreciation event once a year.

Not a favourable local article here (granted they did not attend, which they mention at start)

Universal Kids Resort promised family thrills, but delivered a $550M concrete carnival

Universal Kids Resort opens July 1 in Frisco, but the previews have sparked online backlash over barren theme design, no shade and lots of concrete.

Apologies for the double post — just got to read this. Two things:

1) I think this is a pretty fair piece.
2) Why in the world were they inviting people like me and not as much local media as possible? I just don't get that strategy unless they really believed they'd receive totally uncritical coverage from theme park bloggers.

Inviting Orlando/national audience bloggers/influencers was idiotic. Hope they learned their lesson (they wont).

Prob because he mentioned your piece! /s

It's fine, but a few parts felt like he was piling onto the online narrative. The "I wasn't invited" bit read more like a grievance than a disclaimer.

Complaining that it doesn't have a parade or nighttime spectacular is kind of odd... did anyone actually expect those from a regional kids park? Also, the "what is this place from November to March?" comment? A simple Google search would have shown it's seasonal.

Genuinely asking: has there been any coverage from local TX folks? I know I saw Local News there, but I obviously am in the dark for who reps the TX blogger bubble.

This is the kind of stuff that tells me people were expecting way too much.

The funny part is, Sesame Place DOES have a parade.. and it's like maybe 4 or 5 floats.

Interestingly enough, the owner of Disney Food Blog is from the area, so I wonder if they will invite her out. I believe she's done other Universal events in the past.

I’m curious how you think it compares to other offerings within the regional children’s category? You don’t really touch on that.

Therein lies the challenge with making destination designers open a small regional offering. They cannot build for regional prices. I think they would have had better results contracting out the design work.

I’ve seen a handful of DFW mom Instagram folks that were there, and have posted they enjoyed it but didn’t really go into much depth on pros or cons. Just showed the park, their kids, “we had fun” and are back to posting their usual mom content.

Yeah, aside from parent influencers, I think we just don't have a blogger bubble like that. There's a couple people on the Six Flags beat, but no one with a parks niche that has the type of audience Orlando influencers have.

I didn't really want to get too deep into comparisons since I've never actually been to those parks. I only judged them from photos, videos, and other word of mouth.

I wanted to focus more on what I actually experienced there, especially with all the discourse around the park. I figured firsthand impressions were more valuable than me trying to rank it against parks I've never visited.

there is a difference between the more ridiculous influencers and actual reputable bloggers and theme park journalists. I’ve seen mostly fair reviews from sites like this one. It’s the folks that post 60 second tik tok reviews that only focus on the extreme positive / you’re missing out! Type of mentality.

I’d imagine Dallas “moms” that blog and vlog would be their ideal outlet. The news is going to cover regardless and let’s be fair the overwhelming numbers they hope to draw will come from mom taking the kids or at the very least planning it. To hear that there has been little traction within that circle could also identify some opportunities within the media team itself as well as the marketing campaign. Cause let’s face it, Universal is not great at opening new parks in marketing and advertising. Kind of a history there.
