Good question. There's almost always a slow bottleneck to get through ticketing on HE, both ways.

Don't know if this has been brought up elsewhere, but lockers at Epic Universe utilize a facial recognition system as opposed to the barcode system the current parks use. Scan your face to get a locker, and re-scan to open it back up. It sometimes took a few attempts to get it to properly capture our face and not a random fence in the background, but we never had an issue of it not recognizing us when we returned after riding which is definitely good.

I’m just glad I no longer have to worry about a park ticket falling out of my pocket on a ride.

So this is interesting because this is all EXACTLY how it works in Beijing, we scanned our passport and the tickets were linked to that, from there tickets, lockers and express all linked to facial recognition, it was very conventient.

So I was able to use the new facial recognition entry on my trip in February. I had a three day park hopper ticket thanks to the Florida Resident deals.

So the thing is that I really do like this, probably a bit easier for front gate ops as well. Hope it sticks around, it worked very well.

That was always my worry - particularly with a mobile ticket where they give you the little QR code card. Being able to put EVERYTHING in the locker and not have to worry is fantastic.

I wonder if the facial recognition tech could be used to facilitate buying merch throughout the park. Instead of taking the merch with you, you buy it, scan your face, then collect it from a locker-style pickup area outside the park. As you go throughout the day buying merch, it all goes into the same locker for you (there would be a mini-Amazon style warehouse with all the park's merch behind the lockers). I think I would buy more merch if I didn't have to carry it around all day.

I know Disney has had a similar service, not sure anymore, and unsure if Universal has had it, but it seems the facial recognition that can open lockers would make this particularly smooth.

Got to use the facial recognition for entry last week for Spring Break. It's very convenient but seems very dependent on the time and current weather conditions. My son had to use his ticket the first time and then the second time. I saw the picture it was using and he was totally washed out.

I'm sure that it all goes into some database to get different data points of your face and then eventually gets close to 100%. Very very cool tech and it definitely speeds the process quite a bit

I was wearing a shirt with a face on it so it got confused since it thought I had two faces. I put my had over the shirt face and was fine.

The face that confused it:

That's interesting. I wonder how often that scenario comes up. If I had the money I'd mess with tje machines on purpose with different face shirts just to find out.

I also wonder if it's you're first visit if you could assign your ticket to a t-shirt face instead. Theoretically it would work.

It was my third or fourth visit using the facial recognition with my AP, first time with a face on my shirt.

I am really impressed with the facial recognition double sided lockers at Epic— super easy to use.

The lockers are really nice to use! They even seem to work when there's poor lighting or the camera to captures a slightly blurry photo. I had no trouble at all at any of the times I used them.

It also great with how fast it will tell you the correct locker if you try using the wrong one.

Using the lockers at VelociCoaster now seems outdated using the ticket system. I wonder if they'll be retrofitted in the future to use it to?

Funny you mention VelociCoaster as I think its single rider lockers are the first at the current resort to test the new system.

Yes they are, I remember those discussions during construction. Except for the way you reserve and retrieve a locker they function the same way. Replacing the ticket scanner with the face scanner should work if they choose to do that.

I think all the rides at Epic which use it are Monsters Unchained, Wing Gliders, Racer's Rally, and Stardust Racers. I don't know if the Potter ride has them but I don't believe it does. Who know what's up those Stairs of Mystery in the queue. lol

It refused to scan me until I took off my (prescription) glasses.

Lockers are easy to use but they also turn your brain off a bit (as intended). I forgot to check my locker number one time on Monsters Unchained and went through about 20 mins of opening lockers to find my phone I left in a locker that I didn’t remember the number of.

I never had this issue. I've scanned multiple times for the lockers and I also wear prescription glasses. Odd
