What a difference a year makes. Last year the forum exploded with Epic like discussions. Lots of fun threads. Unfortunately, like with past land/attraction openings, interest wanes once the anticipated new stuff no longer has that new car/attraction scent. Now, the forum is often crickets, with a smattering of interest in the upcoming HHN and some new Disney stuff, but not a lot of anything else.

C'mon people, let's talk about the Epic plusses and minuses. Most everyone here that comments have been to Epic. There must be more stories and experiences that we haven't heard about. So many other theme park forums have faded away, or their discussions greatly curtailed. We need to keep this one fresh and vibrant so that it doesn't suffer the same fates of the disappearing forum sites/discussions.

Long live IU !!! :):):):):)

I'm more surprised that the Fast and Furious Hollywood Drift USF thread barely gets any new posts. I could have sworn the Velocicoaster thread was far more active!

Probably mostly capacity, since they screwed that up. If capacity was adequate, they'd probably would have had an AP option months ago. According to many, Universal has been surveying AP holders, but supposedly they've been indicating they want WDW level prices (4 parks there) for a limited restrictive access.

Just to keep the discussion honest, based on everything I saw, double the price was for a 3-park AP seemingly good-all-year (subject to blackout dates, which technically WDW still has as well). The implication for the discount tickets was that they'd be included at roughly current AP prices.

Thanks for the clarification. Though some of the scenarios I read from others had mucho restrictions and blackout dates. Universal may have circulated different based surveys to gauge interest. But still an overpriced Universal objective if these are true. WDW with four full parks, one of which is the super popular (with lots of attractions) Magic Kingdom, as opposed to Universal Orlando with three parks. Really pure nonsense overvaluing Epic. Epic is a beautiful park, but incomplete at this point in time.

This might be a good time for me to say hello again and follow up some of what @MAC said as well. I got to Epic in September, first visit to UOR for seven years (how did that happen!) and had a blast.

I’d absolutely echo the idea that having grown up with so many of the industry milestones which happened over the last 10-20 years, Epic felt like the first big step in whatever ‘next’ for the industry is going to look like. I was beyond excited but also tried very hard to keep expectations realistic.

I think my sense is that really it’s an incredible park, and while there are absolutely things which could and should have been different, a lot of the criticism which it’s faced is quite unfair. For sure, a huge bland cattle pen queue for Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is a disappointment in 2025. Darkmoor could have been built out more and the area around Werewolf thought out better. Building DK with such low capacity was asking for trouble. But big picture? It’s a park with brilliant, ambitious (mostly) attractions, beautiful landscaping, more atmosphere and live entertainment than most people would have expected. Most importantly, it really feels like a Universal park — it has that energy — and that’s the thing which I was probably more worried about than anything! It feels like it belongs alongside the other parks. But where is that Celestial Park soundtrack album…

To me, the slightly more negative sentiment now feels like a combination of insane expectations, a different culture around things like Tripadvisor or Google reviews compared to 10 years ago, and the general feeling that the internet amplifies any small criticisms or problems and makes them seem bigger than they are. Google reviews etc disproportionately skew towards the negative, and as for Epic having the lowest rating of any Orlando park, it’s had to deal with online review culture from day one. USF and IOA had years to sort all their problems out before online reviews hit in a big way.

I think this feeds back in to fan forum discussions, YouTube comment threads etc, simply because it’s less fun to chat about ‘problems’ than it is about enjoyable things (for anyone who remembers the original WWHP construction threads, which used to have 5 pages of new discussion when I woke up every morning, it was just pure joy and excitement which fuelled that).

On the flip side, as far as general public enjoyment and sentiment is concerned, it seemed to me that the majority of people in the park during the week I was there were having a great time and had nothing much to complain about. There’s certainly an element of over-analysis sapping the fun out of the parks, and as much as it’s fun to figure out efficient itineraries and note which animatronics are working week to week, I also really tried during my visit (two separate days) just to turn up and enjoy what was in front of me — which I guess is what most regular visitors are doing. Viewed like that, Epic is pure fun.

Anyway, I’ll round out this rambling with three positives and three slight concerns from my trip.

The good:
— Monsters and Stardust. Just wow.
— Sitting by the main fountain with a frosty moon and some gentle spray coming up from the water is something everyone needs to experience
— The overall environmental design of this park is A++. The spacious flow of Celestial Park and the kinetic energy of the worlds are equally great, and it’s good to see as much thought go in to this as in to individual attractions or shops / restaurants.

The less good:
— Build quality in some places seems a bit off (anyone notice how many of the queue railings at Stardust don’t seem to fit together?!)
— Hours for the restaurants really need to be clearer (I never got to Gobelet Noir despite several attempts)
— Express numbers seemed annoying despite the fact that I got on everything I wanted and had no massive waits to deal with at all, relative to some other periods. I worry about how that will go when the park is at capacity.

Anyway… tldr, you are all very lucky to have this on the doorstep — just enjoy it — I will be back!
