That's just about them airing DW episodes on Disney XD. Disney in no way, shape or form owns any rights to Doctor Who.

A Shrek store will most definitely be included but it won't have a ride.

Doctor Who is a very real possibility IMO. It fits the sci-gi theme pretty well and could work well as a stage show. Also, the Disney rights are not for Doctor Who. Disney owns the distribution rights in the US and the ability to air past seasons. The do that last bit on Disney XD.

I think Shrek has reached classic character status, myself. I caught it the other night on HBO and thought it aged pretty well.

I hope a rethemed Space Fantasy makes some appearance. A MIB theme would be cool. Indoor spinning coaster needs to happen.

I love it, but I think Doctor Who has to grow in popularity a lot more to be considered viable for a major theme park attraction.

Yea. Like it or not, people really like the characters. All these regional parks wouldn't be using him if there wasn't money in it.

I think it would be a great Kung Fu Panda ride.

If it leaves, I bid for Shrek to be more green space. That's just me though. Can never ave too much green space in a park and that area is a logistical nightmare anyway. Plus would give more viewing options for parade and what not.

While I would love to see Berk and Valley of Peace as their own lands, I don't see this being a reality. I think we'd more likely get a Dreamwork Animation Land with mini-lands for the biggest properties.

They need to go all out with Shrek and make an E-Ticket dark ride.

Thinking about Doctor Who a little more, if they wanted I think they absolutely justify something on the scale of the Hello Kitty store, or maybe even something just a little bit more elaborate. Like, in USF they could extend the London facade towards Fear Factor with a TARDIS that leads into control room photo op and gift shop.

Doctor Who could be like Waterworld, Song of the South or The Wind in the Willows: a lesser-known IP that translates well into a theme park setting. I would gladly take Doctor Who in Fear Factor's spot. It'd sell far more merch, too. And create a seamless shift from London to sci-fi.

For the 3rd park, I'd say this would be excellent (themed to fantasy realms)
  • New LC (Greek/Roman mythology)
  • Transylvania (Classic Monsters)
  • Hyrule (Zelda)
  • Poke World (Pokémon)
  • Land of Dreams (Shrek, HTTYD, KFP)
  • Steampunk Bay (would love to see some originality in the 3rd gate here and there)
  • Jurassic World (not as a JP replacement, but to include new attractions without ruining JP's sightlines/ambiance)
I'd also like to see SLOP take over Shrek, the TL theater used for something Classic Media and no Fantastic Beasts.

Current LC could be used for Seuss (Whoville mini-land with a Grinch family coaster, some sort of flat ride and a Seussical stage show).

Dr. Who fans are usually the ones that root for this idea, yet always miss out on the one possible fatal flaw. The good Doctor is ever-changing. You think Universal wants to continuously update their attraction every 3-5 years?

As a HUGE Doctor Who fan, I agree. Its one of my favorite shows, but I have never considered a prime candidate for Universal.

Hmmm... You raise a good point. Can anyone think of a way around that issue? I'm coming off stale on good ideas.

There isn't.

I mean, the audience can "take the place" of the Doctor, but that would defeat the point of it all. Only possible solution is a stunt-show but I think they're going way of dodo bird. Even still, if they were to go Stunt Show, they'd choose Bourne or Bond over Who all day.

Bond rights are up for grabs as the deal with Sony is about to expire.

Distribution rights. All other rights still lie with MGM and EON

A couple of thoughts on that...

One, they could just create an attraction based around David Tennant, who I think is generally the most popular modern Doctor and would serve well to create a more or less "timeless" (please tip your waitresses) attraction.

Two, they could create a multi-Doctor adventure featuring several of them, maybe with the flexibility to rotate in a scene or scenes with a new Doctor every few years if they feel like it. Kind of like the Hall of Presidents.

By the time a third park opens, Tennant will have been out of the role for a decade +. I don't think that's a great idea.
