EDIT: It was domestic + international box office. Billion dollar IPs get theme park rides.

There are very, very, very few of those. I agree that Laika is a longshot, but only building rides for movies that make a billion limits your choices quite a bit.

How will this mesh with the indoor Dreamworks park slated for American Dream Meadowlands and was it for the proposed Miami site as well?

I seriously doubt that Meadowlands project ever happens. Pretty sure Miami was looking at a Fox park, no?

Yeah, it's been a long while sense I last heard anything about the Meadowlands project. Last time I heard anything, the school system was trying to block it? Or am I thinking of another Florida mega-mall project?

Fox Park died, or at least is on permanent hiatus.

The American Dream Mega-Mall/Theme Park is pretty far along in development and approval.

I got 5 bucks that sez it will, those Mall of America and Edmonton Mall boys are shrewd dudes. They are trying to switch Bond issuers to save financing costs. That family knows how to haggle. Plus they'll not be in the bond business with a Jersey city gov't. Wise, I tell ya.

Not from what I've seen. It's along the lines of a Mall of America. Mega-Mall with a small theme park and water park.

According the website and the official mall layout released only a couple months ago, DreamWorks Animation is still the theme for the amusement park.

All I can see regarding the Miami one is speculation about DreamWorks

We'll see. It's supposed to open a year from now and there are very few real details

Universal Studios is move based
Islands of Adventure is Literary Based
3rd Gate should be VIDEO GAMES/ANIME

Warcraft is coming out this summer from Universal pictures. Nintendo deal. Universal could make deals with Sega, Capcom, Sony, etc

Some of the The lands could be...........

Station Square: Anyone who played Sonic Adventure knows this
Area. It was a hub world for many stages such as Twinkle Park, Casinopolis, etc. This could be dedicated to Sega and have a Sonic Spinball Coaster. Arcades. Nights into Dreams Ride, House of The Dead ride

Meadowlands has been "opening next year" for the past several years. It'll open - too much money invested. But, I doubt they'll be much competition or licensing hassles from it.

As for the $1B IPs, I think you have to look at merch, combined movies, merch, potential for more movies/TV shows, growth, and merch. Disney Princesses make $2.4B a year in retail junk. Laika's stuff doesn't have much growth potential or much merch.

(Side note: I feel like Kong may disprove my theory here)

Well like Briman said the 21st century fox park is on life support. They found some endangered species to habitat some of the land that was proposed for the park.
The mega mall to be built by the same group of owners of mall of america is absolutely happening. I live VERY close to the site and work has been ongoing in the area. However, like others mentioned im not sure i ever heard anything mentioned about Dreamworks Animation for this project.

AFAIK nothing happening in Miami at this time is tied to Dreamworks and if it was in talks to be it is now as good as dead lol

The fact people are still on about 1B dollars IPs and what not? If its seriously just about the money, Comcast would have gotten MLP rights long ago. However, its not about that.

Lets look at all of Comcast's interesting choices in the past few years. They bought an anime company, they partnered with Nintendo, they partnered with Sanrio (Hello Kitty), most of what they have been doing is niche and don't truly fall into the mainstream. I think this park definitely will have IPs but maybe not Harry Potter level but through the use of synergy make those IPs big.

We're talking about building theme park lands though. Hello Kitty was a partnership to move merch and has one decent-sized store, not a whole land devoted to it. MLP would be fine as a singular ride in a Fantasyland/KidZone type land, but not as a whole area.

Also according to Wall St Journal, the DWA acquisition was more about moving merch and theme park opportunities. The films were apparently a secondary thought.

How long is the current agreement with the WB/HB properties with Six Flags for.

this is what i found on a quick google search. It is an older article and im not sure if its 100% accurate but will provide the link below for credit purposes.

"The DC/Looney Tunes license is "long term," and not "in perpetuity," according to Six Flags' legal documents. So if Warner Bros. wanted to regain control of these theme park rights, perhaps to sell them to another company, the value of that buyout presumably would be diminishing over time, as we approach the year in which the license deal would expire anyway. (I've not found a public document that states when that happens, though other terms and obligations between Warner Bros. and Six Flags expire in 2027 and 2028.)" - TPI

FWIW, the projects own website clearly states the theme park as DreamWorks themed. How that is just speculation is beyond me. It could be that this buy out may change that, but we'll have to wait and see.

Wall Street journal also forgot to look at the history of Comcast. This has to do more with being able to compete with TWDC than anything after the failed hostile takeover and Steve Burke being pushed aside for Iger as Eisner's successor.

Just looked also into all the assets that Comcast owns. They have even more IPs outside of NBCUniversal and Dreamworks they can use. Actually kinda in shock.

You don't spend close to $4B of a company's money as a middle finger to your former employer, though I'm sure he's happy to finally bring a proven, though fledgling animation studio to the fold; something Universal Pictures didn't have a good hold of til recent DM/Minion success.

While yes you're right the New Jersey project does show Dreamworks in the opening video rendering and text as well nothing is mentioned for the Miami project which is more interesting as they are much closer to each other. Also worth noting is in the video you see madagascar characters but nothing of shrek or HTTYD or beyond.

The New Jersey one says it's DreamWorks. The Miami one does not.

Yeah, I noticed I was looking at the wrong site just as Mac responded. Curious that they wouldn't nail down the rights for both if they are in development at the same time.
