If Volcano Bay is only using lights and water the downside to that is it can only really erupt during the night, which if i'm not mistaken Universal can only be opened till like 8 at night till they're forced to shut down due to the sound it produces in the area it's in.

I believe the restriction your talking about is for fireworks, they certainly make plenty of very loud noise otherwise till late into the night. A water fountain wouldn't really make enough noise to matter at all. I will say though I kind of think they are going to lean more towards a relaxing slow continuous eruption rather than a dramatic explosive one. If that's the case water is far better suited. There are many different types of volcanic eruptions, so they can definitely go in lot's of different directions with this.

Yeah, I imagine as it gets dark, they will just turn on lighting that will make it look more like lava. It would happen automatically at a set time if done right.

It will erupt both day and night, but only at night will it be with it looking like lava.

I can already visualise it now. A crowd of people counting down like New Years with their eyes on their phone on the volcano.

One thing I have had concerns with are the two trapdoor slides with the twisted layouts, from experience going around tight bends at high speed on a body slide is quite uncomfortable. Especially the slide that exits on the right, it seems as though it ends in a turning drop, wouldn't people come out the slide awkwardly?

Just a small thing but it's been bothering me after looking at the drone footage!

More like young people in the water with their phones and accidentally dropping it while trying to take a selfie as the water changes color and a wave hits them from behind followed by a deafening scream as their lifeline to the world is gone as they were too cheap to lifeproof their phone.

I didn't mean an actual announced set time

I was meaning just the ease of switching to lava. It should all be able to be computer programed so that it automatically switched whenever they set it to switch (obviously it gets dark at different times depending on the day/month).

Why not? Make it an event. Do a Disney and charge $90 for a desert party.

If it's exploding out the top, I don't see any way it won't be visible and why would Universal want to hide it? Maybe to stop car crashes but as bad as it sounds, think of the free publicity.

I thought the twisting slide was the one that ended with the drop into the pool.

The other trapdoor slide will be here I think;

vb slide 2.jpg

I think the people creating the concept art have had some creative freedom there, I think the circle in the bottom right hand corner won't be a toboggan type ride but the exit of the drop slide.

Don't all theme park lights come on an hour or so before sunset?

Aren't the white tubes in the top of the image not near enough the endings of the two twisted slides? The 'vertical' one I'm sure will be fine seeing as these are generally comfortable, however if you are going to exiting one of the twisted slides at an angle I can see some people landing in less than ideal ways...

Some smoke coming out the top with all the water lit up would be very effective.

I think it would be cool if the change happened slowly. At whatever time the peak of the Volcano would light up slowly followed by "lava" coming down the sides and eventually reaching other areas of the park like a real lava flow rather than simply flipping a switch and everything's lava.

I can definitely see it being a slow transition. Possibly even with a short "lava show" if you will.

I've got this wrong.

vb text slide 1.jpg
I don't think we're seeing the end of the slide here as I'm not seeing any kind of splash down and it still looks too high off the ground.

The slide I thought this was is something else:

vb splash.JPG vb text slide 2.jpg

I don't think construction has started yet on this slide yet.

That Black Tube slide most likely has lighting effects which you guys wanted.

Correction: Possible 4 slides based on the videos.

Yeah I thought that may have been the case Scott, it's certainly a mess of plastic and steel so it's quite hard to work out what's what. I hope that isn't the ending as that will be quite uncomfortable if you do land on your side...

In regards to the black slide having lighting, I'm not so sure. As (I think) that's one of the racing mat slides I would expect either all or none of the 4 tubes will get lighting, let's hope they do! ;)

I looked at other water park slides that end up having light effects. The black slide, the yellow, the red all have lighting potential. So when you go to most water parks in most slides have some level of translucency so light can get in or if they are fully solid they are pitch black inside. Look at those slides...they are translucent slide pieces for two slides but most of the rest have no translucency to them at all which either means they are all pitch black or we are getting some kid of effect. The racing mat slides are to show moving through a acave right...I think we are getting some kind of screens for that.

If you don't trust this, look at Wet N Wild and see the difference between the slides that have lighting effects and the ones that don't on the outside and its very telling, same with Schlitterbahn
