Universal Great Britain - Speculation & Rumors

I would expect one park, 3 hotels (maybe just 2), and CityWalk.

Maybe not too far from any urban conurbation, though. With thousands of job listings to be filled, any potential location shouldn't be more than 15 miles or so from the next bigger (say 100k+ residents) labour market in my opinion. The more I think about it, the more attractive a location close to Birmingham seems to me. There are at least 30, if not 40 million people within a day trip reach there, while still providing sufficient distance from both London and the bigger cities in Northern England to consider a resort stay.

I know at the NEC near Birmingham there was a redevelopment plan that proposed to transform 27 hectares of surface level car parking and surplus land, to create new residential, office, leisure and community space which was announced in 2021 I think.

This was put on hold some time ago and that land is still is mainly still vacant. As mentioned previously the infrastructure with Rail and Air transport already existing very close by and proposed HS2 from London to Birmingham opening (someday!) Birmingham would be a decent option

Unless they decide the open hub works the way they anticipate at Epic-- then there's no real need for a Citywalk and shops and restaurants pull double duty.

Interestingly, the arena, casino, mall and casino at the NEC are all owned and operated by Resorts World. The same company that owns and operates Universal Studios Singapore…

If this happens, I could see a park on the scale, if not maybe slightly bigger than Universal Singapore. That’s more or less than what I’m expecting if this happens.

But yeah I hope it happens! I’m rooting for you Brits to have a cool Universal park! England is a wonderful country to visit and I would love to see a Universal park here!

I was thinking the same thing but half the park is indoors. Universal has experience, and Warner Bros at Abu Dhabi came out great.

Honestly doubt Universal would do something like that.Due to Britain’s climate, I could see this park having a lot of indoor rides, like Beijing, but I dunno if they’d make MULTIPLE sections completely indoors

Yeah, my hunch is there will be a lot of indoor rides but outdoor walkways and common areas (like in Osaka).

It doesn't rain this part of UK as much as people think it does

If this does go ahead then I'm not sure a Singapore style park will be sufficient, if it's to be their showcase park to the UK and wider European area. I'd say something along the lines of Orlando or Beijing, maybe not size wise but any development needs to have some space for future development. Or at least close enough to buy extra parcels of land if needed.

Anyone would think the UK experiences Siberian winters or something. Maybe Scotland sometimes

Winter in the UK is generally mild with some occasional cold snaps

I’d imagine it’s not a carbon copy, but the basics of the Beijing park feels right. Universal likes an Islands of Adventure type park and that park, while being a studios park, executes everything well. I think that’d be the best route to go, just change some of the IP’s.

So I've been very clear on why I think it would be down here. But these two charts show the regions for Temp....the second one being where Alton Towers (midlands) is located. And generally speaking they do ok with an all outside park, and they get a month's worth more rain than we do down London ways

this is what made me think we’ll see a fair number of indoor rides, fwiw.

Weather like in UK wouldn’t be a problem with many indoor attractions and facilities,,

Heck just look at the Studios Orlando park. Just about everything is indoors. It's IOA with the outdoor rides.....and the major E ticket Epic attractions (Mario, Monsters, Potter, Dragons stage show) are indoors, and they're the ones most likely to be cloned.

Also worth adding that we Brits have absolutely no issue with visiting the parks in the rain, we don't get the same Orlando storms so even massive coasters don't have to close for weather.
I've had plenty of front row Nemesis or Stealth getting pelted by rain!

Might be an obvious thing to point out but there's a difference between rain in the UK and Florida.

When it rains in Florida, there's probably lightning that closes an outdoor ride, we rarely get lightning here so rides can continue to operate.
