I'm really reluctant to fuel the burning carcass of a dead horse on the "expansion vs. no expansion" subject, but I can't help but to make one point about those saying that JK Rowling "doesn't care about money"...

She may not personally need another dime in her life, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have an invested interest in her wealth growth. This same argument applies to George Lucas, who recently pledged over half his massive wealth to various charities. Rowling and Lucas don't need money. But if they can further fund charities they find important simply by using the power of their creativity (especially since all the hardest work is behind them), and in the mean time have a motivation to continue playing in the sand boxes they dreamed..... why wouldn't they do so?

^ You have a point, but Jo still cares about her stories way too much to put anything before it, even money or charity work. She simply loves the books too much to allow anything less than perfect to be made featuring them. Therefore, if Uni did come up with an idea, it would need to be perfect in order for Jo to approve it.
But we really all need to stop :deadhorse:.

Jesus, if we get a Gringotts coaster out of this, they can freakin' have Mythos. I don't care.

I'm currently working on a Gringotts coaster as well as 3 other rides for the area. Where should I post that thread when I make it?

Probably in the Theme Park Design Thread.

If I recall correctly, JK was amazed by the current WWOHP. What makes you think that the creative minds at Universal cannot continue the same quality of work?

And this topic is made for discussing and debating the rumored expansion, and therefore it is not really beating a deadhorse.

I do think they can do it, I never said otherwise. Come to think about it, I'm even confusing myself when I look back at my posts. I really need to stop posting when I'm exhausted. Okay, I think I was saying that an expansion would be really hard to make, since many ideas Jo might turn down due to proximity to Hogwarts. They would need to come up with an amazing and plausible transition, especially if they went with an idea like Diagon Alley, which is so far from Hogwarts. And now, I'm just gonna shut up before I make more stupid sounding posts.

If Universal Creative has any sense, which they obviously do, they will not include anything from Diagon Alley. I have said this countless times: Diagon Alley is hundreds of miles away from Hogwarts/Hogsmeade; it simply won't work. Any transition wouldn't work either due to the fact that we can't be transported through the Floo Network unless we're actually moving, and we can't apparate nor use a portkey. I elaborated on this on the mega-post I wrote a couple pages back.

I also highly doubt that Universal would include the area of Mythos or Poseidon's Fury in the expansion. If an expansion does occur, you can count on Sinbad taking a leave with Poseidon getting an update.

Having Mythos all by itself would make no sense, Diagon Alley won't happen unless they can realistically transport you 100 miles , and there won't be a Triwizard stuntshow because 1. No recognizable characters and 2. they already have DC which is based off of the Tournament.

:iagree: on both counts. Even though many people have said that Diagon alley is the obvious choice, not only is it way too far away, but it would just be like Hogsmeade, with shops leading up to a large attraction (most likely a Gringotts coaster). I would much prefer the Forbidden Forest or an Expansion of Hogsmeade (Shrieking Shack, anyone?).

Just one reason why the designers and Rowling would not want the entrance of Hogsmeade pushed back:

images.jpg

Anyone who has entered the WW from the LC for the first time knows that it is one of the most amazing sights in any theme park. Personally I can scarcely imagine why any of you would wan't that to be ruined. They designed it that way on purpose you know.

I know Diagon Alley is 100 miles away, but for the theme park world, you are going to have to suspend belief and some adjustments are going to have be made.

For example, would Cinderella's Castle be just a few hundred feet from Beast's castle? I also know that Hogwarts isn't that short of a walking distance from Hogsmeade. Some sacrifices have to be made for Theme Parks. C'mon people, stop getting your feathers ruffled over something this petty. Not everything is going to be 100% perfect as far as locales. As long as it's well designed, and can translate into continuing a great story, you'll see it be built.

Wow, I had to read through 2 pages of arguing to get here.

First off everyone, its happenning, PERIOD. You may not want it, but where there is smoke there is fire. Too many people with connections both on this board and others have come out and said it.

Secondly, JK has kids, and those kids will be wealthy for years to come thanks to her stories. She may not need anymore money, but she is setting up her family for generations down the line and be set for their lives as well.

Thirdly, UOC did it once and she was blown away, they can do it again. You guys make JKR out to be some sort of dictator with a gavel and says no to everything.

FOURTHLY, for everyone who says its not possible to have Diagon Alley next to Hogsmeade forget to realize two things.

1. ITS A FREAKING THEME PARK!
2. ITS A FREAKING THEME PARK BASED ON MAGIC! MAGIC CAN DO ANYTHING!

And rant over

*facepalms*

And Olivanders isn't in Hogsmede.

And there's not a jungle filled with reincarnated frog-dinosaurs right behind Hogwarts, or an Arabian Bazaar right outside of Hogsmede.

It's a THEME PARK. And I'm sure JK, as much of a genius as she is, realizes that, and won't have a problem with a Diagon Alley section, especially after seeing how much her fans want more of the Wizarding World.

People, the reason those other things are clos together is because they're in different sections of the park. Having two impossible close things together in the same land won't work, and I bet JKR won't allow it.

--- Update ---

Can I just point out something? Posting words in all capital letters is extremely rude and it is the equivelent of yelling in someone's face. I'm sure none of you would do that in person so please don't do it on here, thanks.

Olivanders isn't in Hogsmede. And she was completely cool with that.

Seriously, people are taking this way too seriously, haha.

Jo Rowling agreed that it was plausible that a Hogsmeade brach could have opened, and so, it did. Plus I don't think anyone is taking this more seriously than JKR, and she had to approve everything in the original world.

Hogwarts and Hogsmeade are at least within walking distance. Diagon alley isn't even in the same country. Remember this isn't about what the fans think. You need to please the #1 biggest HP fan, Jo herself. And to Jo everything needs to be 99% plausible.
You guys make JKR out to be some sort of dictator with a gavel and says no to everything.

I agree she's not, but like I said earlier, she will say no to anything that isn't canon and isn't plausible (i.e. being able to see Hogwarts from Diagon Alley)
