I would expect that if anything, the mine train construction might slow down more now that The Lone Ranger has joined the ranks of John Carter. Is it 300 million that they have lost in the past two years?

The Avengers and Iron Man 3 more than made up for it though. $2.7 Billion made on $420 production budgets. Obviously you have to add in marketing and the nice price Disney paid to Paramount for the distribution rights, but they've still made a ton just on those two movies (and 2015 should be HUGE for them with Avengers 2, Star Wars XII, and Pirates 5). Disney basically goes all or nothing with movies. I don't like the strategy, but it has gotten them FIVE movies that have made over a Billion dollars since 2010 alone (TS3, IM3, AiW, Avengers, Pirates 4). I think they'll be fine.

So far it has only made half of what John Carter made. So unless it remains constant or has some strange surge in popularity, it may do worse.

so im probably late on this, but I finally watched the Mystic Manor POV, and It literally made me depressed. Why in the world are we not getting these type of AAA attractions in Disney World? What would it take Disney to actually take the financial plunge and build something like that here in Orlando? Clearly it's not Potter.

Their is an article from...the website we dare not speak of...which has good insight into why things do and don't get built and how the two coasts factor into budgets as well as the film company...Unfortunately it isn't as easy as "Hey let's build something new," Not standing up for Disney, just sayin..

Doesnt it have a lot to do with the Oriental Land Company being a little more eager to open thier wallets and fund these types of things?

They're only involved with TDR.

With Paris and Hong Kong Disney has help, but in Tokyo, the parks are owned outright by OLC and they pay licensing, etc. OLC is willing to pay for quality and whatever exhorbinant amount WDI charges. Here, tWDC has to get Board approval, and in WDW, money I being squandered on NexGen and Avatar and Disney Springs.

Hong Kong got the 3 lands because the park was underperforming, and Disney needed to make good with China to get Shanghai which is where the real money will be made.

People do not dislike NexGen for the simple fact that it is stupid (which it is)..it also took a ridiculous amount of budget from Disney to perfect...and even still it is a long way from perfection..

Let's just say that IOA was built for less than what NexGen costed Disney..In reality it isn't TDO that is the main problem, it is the organization and the man in charge himself..

NexGen isn't "stupid" to Diseny..it's a way for them to make more revenue in Guest spending. To them it's "smart". The only good thing that can come out of it, is that maybe the increased guest spending will increase the budget for new projects down the line.

I agree with this statement. However, I think even they did not think it would cost this much. But they have gone to the point of no return, so they have to finish it. In the testing they have seen increased spending, so it is doing what they want. Which is to get people to spend more money in the parks. It probably will just take more years than expected to pay the money back, but in the end they will be in the black on this one. Unfortunately it has caused them to not spend as much now, but honestly, with the management today, nextgen or no nextgen, do you really think they would be building any more rides than they are today? I think the way Disney is, they would not be.

LOL.... I don't think I will spend more or less. I just think with kids it will make it easier when I am buying something. Also getting in the gate, dealing with paper FP, all that stuff will be much easier than before. So I am one of the few on here actually looking forward to having the bands, because I am sick of fumbling for stuff when holding a child.

Oh.... and I will have a shot at getting a FP for toy story or Soarin. We never show up to the park in time to get a FP. So being able to reserve ahead of time will be nice.

I know how that goes  But I will still be using cash, I want more control of my spending and being able to charge with those bands will do exactly what Disney wants them to and cause me to lose track of how much im spending. I hardly use my bank cards at the parks as it is now for that same reason.

Hopefully it will be easier to get into the parks, but heard some have hit some snags while using the bands at the gate. It will make it easier to get in with the kids and strollers once its ironed out.

nex gen is stupid to people on these boards ,including me, but most people who go to the parks arent on these boards and they probably enjoy the bands and the ability to charge stuff on them...for the record i think its completely a waste of money but obviously they think they can make their money back and then some

a survey was done where guest gave positive reviews and no im not defending this project..just saying some projects that are very unpopular on boards like OU and Magic are liked by guest...i personally dont mind getting my fast passes in advance just think its a waste of money

Im curious to see how those same reviews pan out once things are fully implemented and you get the tourist who have no clue what is going on try to get FP+ last second only to find nothing available. If you do your homework and plan ahead with this it could take some of the stress away on a few things, like having to run to TSM or Soarin in the AM to grab a fast pass.
