Gorilla Exhibit

Really? Cuz that Gorilla is dead based on the assumption the child was going to be critically injured. So now the gorilla is dead and the child is not all that injured.

Yes true and very sad it is too but if the kid died the backlash would have been far bigger than is already.

It would have been a very brave decision to say "don't worry, no need to shoot, Harambe won't hurt him".

No they don't. If you climb out of nearly any ride vehicle without a restraint you're very much in danger of being killed. And it's not theoretical - it has happened.

Right, and it will continue to happen. That is just the way it is and Disney and Uni know it. They do their best trying to keep an eye on these fools but they DO accept it.

Back to SeaWorld... That's literally what they did for years even as the whales would drag a trainer down into the pool during a show and ya'll were fine with it.

I guess you are talking about Tilikum and Dawn Beauchamp, I get your point but that is for a different debate.

What your point does do is backup what I said about the backlash being greater if the kid had died.

Again, not that it matters but the Cincinnati Zoo is replacing the fence with a 48" high version with rope netting to prevent this from happening again. The Zoo has been open since 1875 and is known for having one of the most active and successful breeding programs for endangered animals. I hope that this never happens again and I hope that zoos across the nation are taking a hard look at their enclosures. You can't totally dummy-proof things but you can make it more difficult for children to get in. Zoo Enclosures should be rated 12 and up. It's why I typically go to the Columbus Zoo instead because I really enjoy the more spread out feel. The Cinci Zoo is bordered by homes and is in the middle of a neighborhood with no real expansion room.

Yeah, that's kind of a tough area of Cinn. Didn't expect that setting when I went there in the 80's. Great zoo though. One of the first to have their animals in natural habitats.

I was trying to not point out some of the surrounding blight. It isn't terrible, by any means, but it isn't great. Probably safer than I give it credit for.

It's been a while since I've been there, perhaps it's changed a bit for the better. But, at that time, it was far worst than the worst areas of Pittsburgh. And I've been in all the blighted Pgh. neighborhoods at one time or another. It was a really pleasant surprise to see such an excellent zoo in that area.....On a related note. Last year we stayed at a hotel near the downtown casino and attended a Cinn. Reds game in their new park. That is a really tremendous restaurant & bar area they've put in between the football stadium and baseball park. Cinn. can be really proud of what they've done on the riverfront. I didn't care much for that area in the past.

Not trying to put my foot in where it doesn't belong. They shot the gorilla based on reasonable expectation of injury. He was dragging the toddler around like a doll and they felt that tranq'ing would not have worked timely. Basically, you shoot a dart in an animal and he gets irritated. I would too. Also, they tried bating the gorillas and only the females responded (say what you will about food working for women, may have been chocolate (sorry for the Frozen reference)). I hate that it happened but I understand why they shot the gorilla. Now, we get to hear from experts espousing opinions that the gorilla was/wasn't going to hurt the toddler. Again, this was pretty much a no-win once the toddler fell in the moat.

If your child is so wildly out of control that they can't be trusted to not make basic judgements that prevent them from falling into a deep pit or take any direction you shouldn't take them out - for their own safety.

My mom rarely took me out to places between the ages 3-5 because I was crazy. I would go head first down slides. I would be disciplined and wouldn't even get a warning. Then I straightened out . Lmao

I think the mother needs to get a bit of slack. Every parent loses their kid a couple of times, but most are just lucky that it's in a Target rather than a zoo. Not that the parent has no blame, but I'd honestly blame the zoo a bit more. That fence didn't look safe at all...

The Cinn. authorities today said they will not press charges against the parents.

Is this an appropriate time to say that new Tarzan movie looks really good?

This is random but around the summer I went to Animal Kingdom and took some video. I put it together with some music. I did it in like 10 minutes so it's not the greatest. Didn't know where to place this but the gorilla habitat starts around minute 3.
