Disney are pushing the boat out developing new experiences for their parks.

It might all be a bit slow, but that AA is extraordinary, and the drone show which I think debuts tonight? is a glimpse of what is to come in the future.

Credit to them...they're slow, but things are happening (finally)

I'd be peed off if I'd have paid that much to go to the event though.

Drone show sounds like a nightmare especially if one falls and ends up hitting a guest, a worker, or someone's vehicle.

They're not allowed to fly over people or within a certain range, so that shouldnt happen. It's exciting to see how the tech develops/is implemented over the coming years. The possibilities are endless.

Why? A preview of a good looking AA is not going to change my stance on how I feel about this land. (Might be a sign the boat ride is good, but that's it.)

I believe that particular AA is in the FoP queue, but I could be wrong.

This weekend was a bit of a let down. Just a bad presentation all around - from terrible concept art, to seeming like they are trying really hard to sell the story of the new land. I don't think the land was ever not going to be impressive, but people were wondering if it would have "heart". As it stands now, I don't get that vibe. The Tiki-Mech suit is incredibly tacky and screams "trying to be too cute".

The AA does look great however (if that is the AA and not a vis rez).

Looking at the AA again. I'm assuming that this will interact with guests? Probably with somebody off stage talking to people with sensors on their face and the AA recreates all their actions.

The drones are only permitted by FAA to fly over water so the chances over a human being hit is slim to none.

That presentation was a wet fart. They released more info yesterday with the concept art than today. Wow.

My theory on this was the concept art was to get people interested in Saturday's events, knowing that there would be no reveal of anything on the 20th as we thought. Anyone willing to pay the price to go to this event would be just happy to be in the company of Joe Rhode, James Cameron and any schlep they threw out there. Still, you would've thought if you're gonna fly Cameron out for an event like this, you'd bring a little more substance to the table.

But i'll give it to Disney's marketing in this sense where I think @Mad Dog over-looks it when you said "where is the great marking machine?" or whatever. They created basically a weekend full of hype around a land that they still have yet to reveal much about at all. Meaning that with this weekend out of the way, i'm expecting a FLE type reveal where every 2 weeks or so starting in about January or February they'll reveal more and more. By not revealing much now, it left them a crap ton to release leading up to the opening of the land next year.

Elsewhere, marni1971 has reported that - to the best of his knowledge - the animatronic in the new video is not merely the only AA in the boat ride, but also possibly the only AA in the entire land!

I've been high on this project for a while, but this has dramatically soured me on things. I wasn't expecting a Pirates-level AA showcase by any means, but my hopes for the boat ride have now fallen into the cellar.

Wow, not going to say my interest is down just by hearing that, but it's certainly disappointing. I mean, the one thing a lot of us say about Universal is lack of AAs/overuse of screens... but UC's last two rides - Gringotts and Kong - have featured one of the most impressive AA's in any theme park in Kong and an entire room in the queue filled with AA's at Gringotts.

It does certainly seem from what i'm hearing that Disney is moving to less and less AA's in the future.

I've gotten that sense about Disney, too, but I hope we're wrong. That "It's going to have 150 AAs!" report about the Battle ride for Star Wars got me really excited, but beyond that, it feels like both Universal and Disney see screen/projection-heavy rides as the new norm. I'm slowly coming to terms with the reality that my particular preferences (with respect to theme park rides) are probably not going to be catered to very much by either company as we move forward.

With respect to Pandora, I can't imagine the mindset of Disney that would allow the only representation (in the entire expansion) of the alien animal life of that planet to be represented solely through projections. Seems like a HUGE missed opportunity.

The thing about the battle ride AA number (if true) is it will just be a crap ton of storm troopers, which will be pretty easy.

Scheduling projects across multiple years is pretty standard for keeping financial numbers looking better than they would be taking the hit in one year
