I have a feeling his code names have less to do with finding a way to communicate about a yet to be announced idea and a whole lot more to do with finding a way to mess with the fans.

She'll probably be back for HHN30, after two years in a row they need to let those characters rest so that it will be more special when they return. Personally while I like Chance, it would be nice to see her get to play some other characters and return to Bill and Ted.

Sorry for the delay, but welcome!

On the plus side, according to most reports Chance's merchandise sold really well so she will probably be back at some point. In general, Icons do not repeat year after year, but pop up from time to time (especially on anniversary years) so there is very little precedence for her returning right away. The big win here is that if her merchandise sold, and we all know that Jack's sold during 25, it gives them further reason to keep creating Icons for the event.

Chance was more of a mascot then an icon.

A&D had a lot planned for her but near the last minute marketing took all that way.. Hell her house was moved to a different location then it was original planned.

She'll be back, but I think they're going to give her a break.

One of these codes has to be the red herring.... surely Murdy would know that they all seem to point towards the same movie?

If you plan on mid September through the end of October you are safe. Extending out from that is a little iffy but I think we will get a couple of November days this year.

In recent years the dates were announced immediately at the end of the previous event. I think since they haven't been announced there must have been some internal indecisiveness on the dates. My personal guess is it will be 9/15 - to either 11/4 or 11/5. I think anything between 9/22 and Halloween should be a reasonably safe bet, its really just those outer dates that are questionable.

This. I will also add that Wednesdays typically aren't added as a night until a few weeks into the season. So, if you're looking to go multiple nights, and you want to include Wednesdays (and/or any potential new days they add), you might want to aim for at least the second week into October.

Thanks guys! I wonder why they are hesitating with the dates this year... Would be great if they added Mondays to the mix = O. I found last years dates so I'm trying to mirror them to this years calendar

probably just one night for HHN... I really really really want to avoid the insane crowds we experienced in 2015 when we went on Sunday October 11th (day before Columbus Day) I hope we can go a Wednesday or Thursday if possible. It's really hard for us to justify the price of an express pass and last time in 2015 though we had a great time the crowds were brutal. We are looking at the weekend of the 21st/22nd which I know will probably be really busy... Hopefully we all can work something out so we can avoid going on the weekend or possibly go later around Halloween or in November. It's pretty much a guarantee it will be open on Halloween right? I wonder if they would be open on the 30th as well since Halloween is on a Tuesday this year.

It would be really strange to not have Halloween Horror Nights on Halloween, I would assume they will, but you never know though I guess. Halloween is also traditionally one of the slowest nights.

You would think Halloween would be the most popular night to go

People tend to go to parties or trick or treat on the actual holiday date, so it does tend to be pretty slow comparatively.

HHN pretty much shuts down the resort - no? Like the traffic patterns and such.

So with a third park maybe there's some distinct concern about overlapping any particular event?

So they will see how Volcano Bay does in the evenings and then consider if VB and IOA should be open or if it's HHN and let that be the focus of the night.

I recall many nights where IOA closed relatively early during HHN for no apparent reason (crowds were enough to justify later hours) and the reasoning given was that it was operationally easier to focus on HHN than to try and keep IOA open as well.

Well, in all the marketing they are doing for VB, they mention the after dark element all the time because it is so rare for a waterpark to be open after sunset. I highly doubt that a few months after opening they are going to switch to a schedule that doesn't include evening hours. I could see IOA still closing early (normal 7pm I think) but I would be surprised if VB closes before 8pm. Heck, they could use VB as an excuse to close IOA even earlier to get families that don't want to do HHN to go to VB for the nighttime fun they have there.

My thing with the dates is they have to be going over a lot of things to delay them this long. Last year I went the two weekends after opening weekend and it is was busy every single night. I have to wonder if they are trying to figure out a way to not only start the event even sooner to better align themselves with Disney's Halloween offerings that normally start the beginning of September but also if they can add on Wednesday earlier on. It all comes down the profit. Having the event open more nights a week means they need more staff. Having the event start even sooner means they have to reconfigure their normal construction time frame. With Halloween on a Monday, they need to decide if the 31st is the last night or if they will go into the first full weekend of November which then poses more challenges as they have to quickly clean out a sound stage and build the Grinch stage in it's place.

A part of me also has to wonder if they are finally going to attempt to go back to the two park concept to spread out the crowds which is delaying the date reveal. Of course, they need the budget to make sure BOTH parks have enough going on in them so there are no big dead zones like they have had in the past. The event just keeps growing, which means the budget just keeps getting bigger.

Can they afford to have HHN going on with Volcano Bay being open and still have enough parking spaces..?

If they want to start earlier than the weekend of the 15th they need to make significant changes to Rock the Universe.
