You'll get to see the storm doors close at Contemporary and the Monorails parked nose-to-nose inside.

Awesome! I was wondering how they'd do it.

I told my wife that the way they constructed the contemporary- it's gotta easily be the strongest building in Orlando. Each room is basically a strong box.

I don't believe they park them nose to nose anymore.

I spent a hurricane at the Contemporary, I remember it was so weird looking out at Bay lake and seeing the big waves coming across. It looked like an ocean.

The accident eh? Bummer, There should be art least two parked inside though. Leaving one at Epcot station is a bad idea, and they know that, but they might have to do that instead of nose-to-nose.

Last storm they left one at Epcot and the updraft derailed it partially.

2pm track update has Irma coming straight through where I live. We have never been hit by a hurricane head on here but the next few days look pretty hairy.

From what Ive heard there is the potential for southbound I75 to become accessible to northbound traffic instead.

I-75 runs right behind where I live in Gainesville and it's been pretty much a slow crawl since yesterday headed north.
It would make sense to reverse the lanes at some point in south FL. I think they do 95 like that as well. I know they are reversing the eastbound lanes on I-16 in GA from Savannah tomorrow (where I used to live before here).

If it came down to it, I can't imagine they wouldn't be able to find a rollaway bed in a conference room for you. That's what happened after Katrina. First responders on cots and rollaways in the ballroom at the Royal Sonesta.

I have a friend in Miami that I'm worried sick about. He's not in an evacuation zone, but it doesn't make me any less worried. Assuming that the parks are back up and running, I'm still steadfast on coming into the city on the 20th for vacation.

As a side note, our Director of Revenue informed me today that every hotel within a 4 hour drive of the Florida border is booked up at this point. New Orleans as a whole was forecasted to reach about 70% occupancy this weekend (shoulder season here) and we're now projecting over 90% because of people evacuating for the storm.

I believe it's 10 in the shop, 2 in the Contemporary and the work tractors in the Contemporary.

If Orlando gets category 3 winds, what are we thinking is going to happen in the parks? I'm concerned about the structural integrity of Horrors of Blumhouse and a few broken windows, signs and light posts at Universal.

Clearly they wouldn't boot us out if there were forced road closures; however, if there wasn't- I'm out to find a place. They assured me they would keep working on it but rather than wait I took the guarantee to book the contemporary at Disney. So I'm now heading there tomorrow at 1pm for Saturday and Sunday night. They did, obviously, refund me and give me a 1pm checkout. I Even booked chef mickeys brunch at 2:30. In my defense, it was the only restaurant open- and in my opinion it might be the biggest disaster of the day :D

Thanks for the thoughts everyone- I had a conversation with my oldest today and reminded her and my wife to keep their cool regardless of what happens and to show their appreciation continuously to the staff. They have families, homes, pets and possessions. And they're choosing to serve us during a disaster. All of us guests need to remember that.

On a side, good note- outside of the fantastic weather and crowds we've had the last 3 days- My buddy Chef Ryan at Tchoup Chop made our family maybe 5 Lbs of fried rice and fried cauliflower. So at the very worst- we have plenty of food and won't be forced to eat Mickeys PB&Js.

Glad to hear you have found some solid accommodations to ride this storm out. You point about people working at the park hotels during this storm is dead on and should be regarded by all that are staying on site. These people have their own families and homes to worry about, they are just people like you and your family and aren't immune to the fear of what they will find when the storm passes. Everyone staying on site, please treat those TMs with respect and kindness...unless they start price-gouging for those terrible sandwiches again, then give them hell!

In all seriousness, I'm wishing you and your family the very best during this time.

What really concerns me about that tent is that I don't think it's really capable of handling too much (I don't know though) and it's also elevated. While that elevation helps for flooding I don't know what effect that has on it handling the wind.

Orlando looks like it is going to get slammed in the current models. I hope the damage is manageable but there is not much precedent for something of this scale.

Trees fall down, hanging lamps break. Most other things that could do much are removed or ziptied to something else.

It keeps shifting west. I'm not too worried here in the middle of the state. Cat 1 winds are still the prediction here.

Really? The brand new models that came out at 11 show it riding eighth up the west coast, passing directly through Tampa. Orlando will be getting the "dirty" side of the storm with hurricane force gusts but I think this is better than the predictions from last night or this morning. Each new model shows this storm going farther west.

Seen many posts online perplexed as to why people are buying frozen food...

Ya'll know chicken nuggets come fully cooked, right? Lots of frozen foods are just warmed to be more appetizing.

Foil and heating element (iron, grill, etc). Not the best due to santiary reasons but it actually is smart.

Oh biggest tip that people forget during most emergencies...DO NOT...DO NOT START ANY GENERATOR INDOORS.

That assumes the cell towers are still functioning.

IF Orlando gets hit with Cat 1 (as projected) I could see some trees/branches down especially with the extra weight of the pumpkins at the central park zone. Hopefully, they take them down as a precaution overnight. The exterior facades for the tent mazes will probably be heavily damaged.

As for the park itself, there really isn't anything major to be worried about except loose signage
