This seems like something Netflix may want.

Yeah, it mirrors Netflix buying Millarworld as a hedge against losing comicbook derived content. Now that Disney is making their own children's streaming service, Netflix might want its own children's content factory.

That's especially more true now with DreamWorks owned by Comcast, there's no guarantee that Netflix will have access to children's content in the future if Comcast wants to have its focus on its own streaming initiatives.

For what you said, I think it would be NBCUniversal that would at least pursue the opportunity. As you pointed out, Dreamworks still has that large output deal; and that it would allow them to build even more onto their current libary of content for Universal Animation.

I could see either Comcast or Netflix as the most likely buyers; the two are in a relationship now due to the DreamWorks-Netflix deal, but if Comcast wants to go in a different direction with its own streaming initiatives in children's content, then having DHX's properties is a strong supplement (and conversely Netflix would need that if it lost a lot of its children's content to Disney and Comcast going for their own services).

It's worth following what happens to DHX for that reason alone. Apparently Peanuts US theme park rights are licensed to Cedar Fair through 2025 with an option to extend that to 2030, so that won't be available for a while even if DHX is bought.

True, but there are other IP's that while not completely owned by DHX; it could be good to have on a merchandise stand-point (Hasbro is one to look at).

If I had to place down who would get it between Netflix and NBCUniversal/Comcast, it'd be NBCUniversal/Comcast.

Dreamworks Animation and Netflix deal isn't even close to being over. They still owe around 150 hours from the original deal from 2013 where they were to provide 300 hours of original content and then re-upped the amount in 2016. Its also not exclusive access to the dreamworks library which Uni is okay with because all those shows are also on Universal Kids Channel.

So how about Disneyheads' rumor of a significant Universal IP slow boat ride attraction for the new park?

Nothing out there really screams out as something obvious. The best fit for the rumor might be Jaws.

Remember, nothing has been green lit for Site B. Right now, it is a bunch of pitches and when the day comes, Comcast/Universal brass will pick and choose. Then Universal Creative will hammer them into a park.

That said, this pitch absolutely slayed me. Troll level 11.

The obviousness is deliciously painful.

It's gotta be Shrek, imo. It's the only Universal-owned property I can think of that matches everything DH has said.

Yes Dave. That's why I said, on a post on the previous page, that UC plans for the new park utilize a lot of white out and X ing things out. I doubt they have a full handle on what they want to do yet. But, they probably would be best to make a MK type park. And thus, a fun entertaining slow boat ride, loaded with AA's, & with some humor, would be a perfect fit.

So when they bring back Jaws bigger and better they will have the fans right in their pocket. With one move they cement the relationship and become a legend in the parks business.

Heckofa rumor you got ahold of there Dave....

Sometimes my brain doesn't work - what exactly would we consider a list of "Universal's IPs" ...?

I feel most everything is another company until Universal signs a contract - outside of stuff like the Kong/Jaws/Mummy/Frankenstein stuff.

Seriously, can someone put together a list of actual Universal franchises? Not just "theme park friendly," but every damn movie?
