Hi all, my first post on here so if it’s in the wrong area/been asked before etc I apologise.

Me, my wife and daughter are booked for our first ever holiday in Orlando this October, coming from the UK for three weeks staying at Pop Century in Disneyworld. As it’s our first trip, we are kind of trying to do everything (probably impossible) that we individually want so have a 21 day pass for all the Disney parks and then 14 day passes for Universal and Seaworld/Busch Gardens. I have tried to separate days up for all of this to give fair time at each.

One additional thing I am absolutely dead set on though, is going to Halloween Horror Nights as I have always wanted to go, my wife and very young daughter - not so much. I am quite happy to go on my own just to experience it, but I wondered if anybody has experience of doing this and did it negatively impact upon your experience? I don’t really have a choice either way if I want to go, but I just wondered if anyone would be of the opinion that I should skip it in the circumstances? Is it still fun on your own?

Thanks

I went by myself for the first time last year and the experience was a lot better than I expected.

Here is why I enjoyed it so much:
I was able to do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted.
I was able to just stay in my favorite scare zone for 2 hours just to take in the atmosphere/people watch. (I think most normies wouldn't want to do this)
I was able to arrive/leave when I wanted.
Also crowds can be pretty chaotic so I was able to walk at my own pace and not have to worry about keeping track of whoever I'm with.

The negatives for me were:
Your alone and can't talk to anyone about what your experiencing.
I was getting a little awkward waiting in the lines by myself.
I would highly recommend the Express pass though because theres no way in hell I'm waiting 2-3 hours in a line by myself.

Once your in the house though its cool.

This year will be our first as locals, and I definitely plan to do at least a couple nights of HHN on my own.

get there early, like an hour early, and hit the biggest IPs in those front of the park SSs quickly, it makes it way easier to do all of the houses in one night, so you don't have to worry about missing any

I had an amazing time by myself after they extended HHN26 the extra weekend...There are so many fans in lines and around the park, you can really strike up a conversation with anyone...Plus, if you have a game on your phone, it's excellent..

I like going to Universal by myself, in general

Just to update on this - bought my ticket (the 17th October), so I am going for it! When the option comes up to buy the Express pass I think I’ll go for it to try and get through every house that night.

Can’t wait!

I wish I could go solo! If you plan on springing for Express, you should see what the cost difference is for an RIP tour, it might be worth it as you would hang with a group as you go through the mazes.

I think it would be the most efficient way for a first timer that is only going one night to get the most out of the event.

I usually go alone since none of my friends love the event as I do. I usually purchase the EP with my Frequent Fear pass which aint cheap. Plus you get to do what you want...when you want.

one easy way to avoid this is to bring some headphones and listen to YouTube or music or something
i always listen to Joe Rogan or put on Screen Junkies-movie fights or something like that. it both makes the time go away easier and you arent focused on the awkwardness of being alone
Ive never had a problem alone at lines, the only thing that bothers me is that i start to get more tired when im alone, it is kinda weird but being alone i get more tired in my legs but if im with people i dont get as tired. probaby just my mind being distracted.

headphones at HHN are a life saver. an hour can pass really quickly when you are listening to something funny

That’s a good idea. I’ll try that next time I have to go alone. I could prob listen to music too. Thanks!

This so much.

When I go with my only other HHN junkie friend, we bring headphones with a two-way connection and we jam out during the waits, an Apple Music subscription is much less than an Express pass. ;)

Well, our trip is just under 3 weeks today (cannot handle my excitement not gonna lie).

So the plan for the day is we are doing Volcano Bay in the morning to sort of mid afternoon-ish, and then going for an early dinner somewhere on Citywalk around 3.30/4.00. After that, we say our goodbyes and my wife and daughter get an Uber back to Pop Century leaving me to face HHN on my own.

I have bought a HHN Express pass for the night, is that likely to see me through every house? The biggest question I have is around getting an Uber afterwards - will I struggle with this? My intention is to try and do every house, soak up some of the atmosphere and then leave - but will I be struggling to get an Uber back to Pop Century at real late time like that?

TIA!

Definitely. You could prob do a few houses twice if you arrive right when they open and do a few without express. I have no idea about the Uber though.

Is this your first time? If it is prepare to get addicted to it like crack.

Yep! First time in Florida, period :) Have wanted to come since I was a kid (now 31) from the UK.

Literally cannot wait!

I may be on the same boat for HHN 29 this year, so i'd really like to know how it went for you.

It's my 10th consecutive year now but I've never been alone. I usually get a group of friends or family to drive up to Orlando for a weekend and have usually only been to HHN for one night each year. For my 10th anniversary I'm planning on being in Orlando for 9 days and getting 6 nights of HHN in, and I'll probably be the only person in my group with a FFP.

I've never really been able to enjoy a Scare Zone more than just one or two walk-throughs a night, so spending more time in the zones and less on rides is definitely something I'm looking forward to. Any other tips for someone going solo and attending multiple nights?

Hey :)

Well, I had an absolute blast all holiday, and that night was one of the very best parts. Initially I was really self conscious walking about/queuing on my own, in a place I only vaguely knew (had spent one day at the park by the point I went).

However, within about 30 minutes I really felt totally fine with it, and my first house was Stranger Things - so, obviously an amazing start! I got talking to a group of girls behind me in Stranger Things who noticed my British accent when I was on the phone to my wife and got inquisitive about me on my own and that made wait times pass a few times actually, people were generally just chatty to those they were nearby in the lines.

I did every house except Trick R Treat, and I could have done that but was sooooo tired (physically, my feet were killing as I had done a full day at Sea World from about 7am and then gone to Universal for HHN from 6ish!) and by this time it was going 1am ish. I was more than happy with what I got through, and I had the Pizza Fries (up there with the best things I’ve ever eaten, probably. I just sat in the Kidzone area devouring them wishing I’d bought two) and Twisted Taters etc, I tried to have as much of a full experience as a guy can in a one and done night, and I think I did!

Best house for me was Slaughter Cinema, absolutely hilarious to me. I don’t scare easily (not arrogance, just not particularly jumpy per se) but the house which got me a few times was the one where the plant life had taken over (forgot its name now, only a few months ago but I’m terrible).

I can’t recommend it enough as an overall experience, and would not hesitate to do it again on my own - and in fact, that is exactly what I will be doing as we had such an incredible time in Florida we have just rebooked for end of September 2020 - and you best believe I will be going back to HHN!
