I disagree I think if seaworld uses a icon each year like they are using the Siren this year for Marketing they may wanna combat with another type of icon

Nope. HHN won’t get into a direct “like for like” marketing competition with HoSO. All it does it does is legitimize HoSO as an equal competitor.

It’s the same reason Disney never acknowledged Universal in their marketing. It would be punching down.

I think it'd be a while before we see an entirely new icon. We're at a stage in marketing and appeal that people want things that are either popular at the moment or things they are nostalgic for from the past.

HHN gets such a nice pop and sizzle from having a big IP on it that I don't see that changing for a while. Icons sprung up during a time when the event was booming yet still growing, which allowed the creative team to essentially design those aspects carte blanche. Now, HHN is a world wide global phenomenon that brings people from all over the world every year. They need those huge IPs to drive a certain type of crowd to the event and it's arguable that same crowd is the reason the event is huge today.

I'd love to see the creative team bring us HHNs that are more thematically tied together and feel like something bigger than a string of houses one after the other. That's where I'd be pushing for the evolution of the event.

Maybe we'll come around to a time when they feel like they can coast for a year or two and create a new icon for the IP age. Maybe they'll run out of IPs and NEED to have something big there right in the center (though that would lead to a 'why don't we just drudge up Jack or the Director again?). For now though they push so hard every year to have that relevant IP attached to the event that I don't think it's a small phase.

So seek and destroy was 30 years 30 fears on the old spec map, and I just don’t see Metallica happening. So 30 years 30 fears could have been an icon zone since that was the marketing that all the icons were on. But isn't New York too big for an icon zone.

The street locations on the final 2020 map were intentionally swapped a bit. 30 Years, 30 Fears was always in Production Central. Last year, New York was just an original we never got details on.

The important thing is that it’s obvious Universal reworked the streets in some capacity already. Giving a street (NY at that) to one of the most popular musical acts in history is completely reasonable since they’ve had a year to focus almost entirely on zones.

Not just you, but let's Occam's Razor this. Nothing else is identified on the map by a "codename." The term "Seek & Destroy" is a Metallica album, and easily/primarily recognized as such. Why not use the more generic "search & destroy" to avoid confusion, and indeed a possible lawsuit? (Metallica famous for being litigious.) Also, why potentially burn a bridge like that?

Aside from that, a single artist was featured in 2019, another would have been in 2020. Metallica was previously rumored to be in discussions with HHN LA. The band name is a bigger IP than Shudder, Creepshow and possibly even Hill House. All circumstantial evidence, but it starts to point to a narrative.

What single piece of evidence points to this not being a Metallica zone?

I think it’s also fair to point out that we usually Have 2 IP zones and it just makes sense for Seek and Destroy to be one of those IP Zones.

I wouldn’t be surprised! It would make better use of having Metallica from a marketing perspective.

IMO Seek and Destroy will be a futuristic war zone with robots versus people a la Terminator. That’s my guess.

I mean it makes sense In a lot of ways. Billie was supposed to be the "Big" house. Not sure how the general public would react to Metallica as the Big house but it certainly would be bigger than Creepshow and Halloween 3
