Maybe they should have a subtle name change of the ride at Epic to avoid false expectations. Just rename it "Mario".

Not my photo but guests being able to see this is not a good look. They didn’t have a couple of spare nuts and bolts laying around?

For those who don't understand how people can be unhappy with the MK ride, ask yourself if you ever complained about the Fast and Furious Ride not being fast.
The problems with F&F goi way beyond just not being fast - an incomprehensible plot, no ending, awful acting, removing the 3D in Florida, terrible animation, poorly timed physical effects and an inappropriate ride vehicle. MK only has the "slow" complaint - it's got a cohesive story, actual sets, great interactivity, and a good looking ride vehicle.

At least with Yoshi they would be able to see it from the ground and know immediately what kind of experience it was.

I don't think that would've helped at all. The entire ride of FOTH in Hogsmeade is completely viable, guests can clearly see exactly what it does while they wait in line--and the number one comment I always hear from guests at the end is, "Is that it?" Like, what else, exactly, did they think it did? Being able to see the whole ride from the ground did nothing to temper guest expectations.

I think the fact a "racing" ride is slow is going to disappoint many. There's just no getting around that. Not to mention the fact that the first time you ride, you sort of have absolutely no idea what's going on, it's just sort of sensory overload. However, strangely, I suspect this fact will benefit with the APs in the long run... the locals may grow to enjoy it as time goes on, because they'll get to understand it better, and with the bands, continuously try to improve their score. But it'll take some time before it gets to that point.

Serious question... is it well-received in Japan? I realize there are differences, but the differences can't be this drastic to cause such a lackluster response. And if it does, what exactly are those differences, and could USH address those differences?

I feel like pushing to get that Donkey Kong expansion built is really the only big move they can make. F&F might take some of the heat off for people looking for speed when it opens, but definitely having the DK coaster as part of SNW to balance out the “game” aspect of MK with an actual fast ride would be a solid tonic, because it’s not like they can radically change MK (or the land as it currently exists) at this point beyond little additions and tweaks. Making it so the car spins a little more or adding more games to the land isn’t going to completely change the GP’s mind when it’s all still fundamentally the same, and yet that’s really all they can do when the land and ride are locked in.

Regarding Power Up Band cleaning/care, after seeing that most silicone cleaning tutorials involve submerging the thing in water or applying it in some other form, I decided to use the USH contact form again to ask what do they recommend since I didn't want to risk damaging the electronic part (which the part I want to clean is near), and they unfortunately could not tell me anything since they apparently just don't with how new the land is.

They did at least tell me to ask a retail TM in the land on my next visit, but eesh, this is making the matter of if they'll really reset everything once opening actually happens a bit more complicated for me.

I did a 180 on MK after riding it. It is a fun ride. I thought all along it should be faster but after riding it, it is a really great interactive experience that is fun and re-rideable. The ar is done well. Takes a few rides to get the system. The queue is great. I honestly thought I would ride this once and put it on my never ride again list, but honestly I want to ride it every time I’m in the park. So far I got 6 rides in.

I keep saying this but the ironic thing about Mario Kart is that it still kind of is fast… It has that typical element of most shooter rides where you wish you had more time in rooms to look around and keep shooting so because of that it feels like you are moving too fast through scenes… it’s not a launch coaster or a truly fast ride by any means but it has that element of “being too quick” because of the shooter / gaming side

Exactly, you really don’t notice the speed once you’re on it and there’s so many moments of pure joy on it as Mario Kart fan.

I hope people really stop buying so much into the whole online hate train from people nit picking who haven’t done it and give it a chance themselves. But hey if they don’t, shorter queue for us all who enjoy it!

Interesting.. The version in Japan was executed at a much higher level, so I can see where some blowback from Nintendo may be coming from. The level of quality regarding some aspects of the land does not reflect well on either Universal or Nintendo.

That's why this is a soft opening. Lots of things still being worked on as guests test the attractions.

I was surprised that the land opened for technical rehearsals when it still wasn't finished and had rough spots that people were quick to post pictures of online. I can see Nintendo not being happy that some guests had their first impressions of Super Nintendo World when it was in an unfinished state.

The company is notorious for being protective of the image of their IP. It is why they didn't really participate in IP licensing for a long period of time until their deal with Universal Parks in 2015.

I understand and I wasn’t complaining. Just thought it would be an easy/quick fix. By no way did it inhibit me from enjoying the land and ride. I absolutely love SNW and MK. I’m not a fan of shooters but this hits on so many levels. With six rides in, I’m still trying to rank it but MK is definitely on my top 5 attractions of all time list.

In Japanese culture, people are really proud of their work and only want you to experience things the way it was intended. A truly prideful owner of a ramen shop would not allow for to-go orders since the length of the ride home can change the temperature/quality of the product. Same for a high end sushi restaurant. Omakase is a dine-in experience only. Images like that being shared makes me understand why NoA is not too happy with the current rollout of softs.

People aren't happy with the size/one less ride? Or they are unhappy about the land no matter the size/MK ride?

People are happy with the Osaka version, so it's probably this version specifically. Which I get.

Let me put it this way. The land in Osaka feels like it was designed by video game developers with the attention to detail and the structure of the land hiding stuff from you. This version doesn't.

Fair enough, then that is what I commented as well when doing the Survey....its a fun land but wish they could have made it bigger.

I'd argue that the size is fine. It just feels like it's missing stuff. I posted a list a few days ago that listed all the stuff that was cut, and it's a lot.

How do you fix the land? I'm not completely sure, but I can think of a few ideas that might help.

1. Put the Casino minigame inside the Peaches Castle sideroom next to the Pirahna Plant. It gives another mini experience and is replayable.

2. Music Blocks. Fit them in anywhere you can.

3. The entire upstairs area needs to be renovated. Use the screen mini-game from the underground section in Osaka and place it where the random POW block is. Introduce a new practical effect in the hallway before it, something involving the band.

4. Remove the Powerup band vending machines. They're taking up valuable real estate. Place a snack stand there.

5. Fix the green walls so they don't look like blocks.

6. Expand.
