I know this is movie stuff, but it concerns HHN as well. From Screamscape:

(3/11/11) In a strange and twisted bit of bad news, it seems Universal’s new masters (Comcast) are apparently a bit squeamish when it comes to hardcore horror movies. Case in point, they just canned the planned Guillermo del Toro adaption of H.P. Lovecraft’s “At the Mountains of Madness” because the director was unwilling to dilute his vision of the film down to achieve a PG-13 rating. (Honestly, this is Lovecraft we’re talking about after all. Everyone knows you can’t do Lovecraft justice with a PG-13 in today’s world where even the latest Disney/Pixar films are given PG ratings instead of G.)
According to Guillermo del Toro, he wasn’t even going to big gore in the movie, just a desire to make it feel, “really, really uncomfortable and nasty.” That said… I do have to really wonder how this new squeamish streak could possibly trickle down into a more watered down Halloween Horror Nights experience at Universal Hollywood and Orlando. I’m really hoping otherwise, but when you’ve got someone as clueless as Comcast now pulling the strings, nothing is off limits.

If Comcast turns down the intensity of HHN for no reasion it will be the biggest mistake they will make since buying Universal. Period.

I think that's reallyyyyyyyyyyy stretching a news story that has nothing to do with theme parks into making it relevant for the sake of debate.

The problem wasn't so much the gore, but making a rated R movie for $150 million. Any studio is going to balk on that. Look at Live Free or Die Hard. They made it a PG 13 movie and it turned a lot more profit.

Sorry, but I think Lance is way off base with this.

It is a stretched story that has no real basis to it. People love scary, there is a market for it all. It is as Briman said more of the fact that it was a horror movie with a budget of 150 million. This is the company that just struck a large budget bomb with the wolfman so you are gonna have suits hindering creativity.

Universal has had one of the lowest movie business intakes of any major studio company inr ecent years. They tend to rely on Adam Sanderl and Judd Appatow like comedies to make most of their earnings. They try and play it safe most of the time. Their only true recent hit was Despicable Me.

This is a money issue of ONE movie project being canceled. It happens all the time and is part of the business. It is not greenlit. Nothing to do with its content.

I have to agree with you & Briman on this one. Plus, usually Lance's stories can get far off like what I posted but that's because he is just adding his opinion from time to time.

Lance posted a story about them turning the Old Hard Rock Hotel in to a Haunt. A rumor that has been shot down dozens of times. The rumor mill will start cranking out a lot more not that HOS has released it's theme already. The New Icon with out a doubt will have Tiger BLood.

I'm iffy about a lot of stuff Lance says. I remember in 2008 he posted a rumor about how people who have had diarrhea in the past few days should not get in Disney's Lazy Rivers. A couple days later he posted pics of the "new" signs and they were made on MS Paint. He will be dead on sometimes but FAR off others.

From HHNRumors:
Rumors have started circulating that the event will once again take place at the studios this year. While this doesn't come as a surprise for most, it's a good start for a good year. Many will argue that the event will never return to the islands, however they also have their reasons why they'd like it to return.

In other news, there has also been speculation about some new team members working with A&D on this year's event. Two of which come directly from Universal Hollywood. Although it cannot be confirmed at this point, its worth noting.

Lastly, there is a rumor going around that the soundstages used this year will be different from last. This is due in part to some clients who will be using a soundstage from August through September. Yet again, cannot be confirmed at this point but should be taken in consideration during speculation :)

I bet the proposed client is Family Feud, their ratings were really good last year and they said they would return, which is the same time they filmed last year however they were in SS 19, if it was them I couldn't imagine why they would change to a different soundstage.

From HHNRumors:

This definally backs the rumors / speculation as to why the Hard Rock location & other soundstages got brought back up. Thanks!

Well (I am not 100% sure about this), since he said clients that meant maybe more than just Family Fued. Examples may inculde TNT: IMPACT (WWE), TV commercial filming, est....

So, I was reading on behindthethrills and came across this article mentioning a bunch of stuff about HHNXXI. While none of this and I repeat NONE of this is confirmed, It's something to discuss.

HHN XXI will use the moniker Xtreme Xposed Intense. Clever right?
FEAR will be the Icons once again, only it’s not FEAR as we know him it’s three faces of FEAR each one representing different FEARS.

-One FEAR will be reptilian, one will be this beast, and the other will be a sexy hot dominatrix

-The event will be ONLY open to those 18 and up

-Houses will include designs from Clive Barker and Rob Zombie-The Rob Zombie house will pump music so loud they will give out earplugs, and by accepting the ear plugs you accept that you can’t sue universal should you lose your hearing

-There will be an extreme house (we’ve heard this before) that you will have to sign a waiver that will be notarized at the door before you enter. In this house you will be touched, blindfolded, yelled at and even dunked in a tank of water. There will be a fake exit that will have actors being drug out looking hurt, acting deranged, and even dead. You will be cut on with a fake saw and it will like you are dying.

-There will be concerts at the park, including Midnight Syndicate and GWAR. But the highlight of which will be Rob Zombie.

-There will be a “Gay Pride” parade taken over by vampires. Assless chaps and blood soaked rainbow flags abound.

-Legendary Truth will all DIE. The group will add six new members and they will all be killed off, making a murder mystery out of it all. Once all of the people are dead, Legendary Truth is gone forever.

-Bill and Ted will use the word ****….ooooh edgy.

-There will be a show similar to Rocky Horror in spirit using Repo: The Genetic Opera as it’s backdrop.

-There will be a lack of scarezones. There will be 4 scare zones

-Zombieology will deal with a cult of zombie worshippers who offer ever lasting life if you get eaten by a zombie. Scare Zone

-A scare zone in the Kidzone dealing with Lovecraftian creatures. The name SquidZone. Don’t get that one do ya.

-No pictures. At all. If you take pictures they will confiscate your camera, escort you from premises, ban you from HHN for LIFE and ban you from Universal Orlando for a year.

-There will be naked people. The Xtreme Fear will be a topless woman. The gay pride parade will feature homosexual vampires simulating sexual acts. GWAR splatters blood and semen on it’s crowds."

The whole article is here http://behindthethrills.com/2011/04/rumor-mill-halloween-horror-nights-xxi-and-mach-tower/

HOLY BALLS BATMAN!
While some of that sounds like it would actually be pretty cool (blindfolded, fake exits with actors, etc.) most of those things totally couldn't happen.
This is definitely an April Fools joke, cause some of the rumours are just too far out there!

My thoughts exactly.

Though to be completely honest I would LOVE for some of that to be true.
(18+,REPO,Rob Zombie house)

So, to pose a question....What if The event was 18+? What all would change?

oh and I don't hate the "Xtreme Xposed Intense" tagline.

There was a rumor on Screamscape about Comcast having Universal Axe a Guillermo Del Toro Film because he wanted it to be R Rated. For this reason, the article theorizes that Comcast would make UOR go less intense, So I'd be surprised if they went 18+. They wouldn't do a house with blasting music because they know Idiots/Drunk people will take earplugs out, and I find it very difficult to believe that the legal team is okay with that even if there is a disclaimer. they wouldn't go down on the number of Scarezones because that is one of the selling points. From a consumer standpoint, If i'm looking between HOS & HHN, regardless of quality, the common person is going with the one with more stuff. As for B&T, When the show first started with no cursing. the fact that it has gotten this far leads me to believe that there is a chance they could get away with it, keeping in mind that whole rumored "Comcast hates R-Rated Movies" Thing. As for the Concert, The show, and LT, I don't see why not.

That is, Considering we are indulging an April Fools Day joke.

.

Instead of having to deal with drunk frat boys, drunk stupid people and obnoxious teenagers, I'd only have to deal with drunk frat boy and stupid people. I come home after the event with 2/3 the headache

While all of this would be interesting, I wouldn't want to see it happen. I am all for HHN going 18+, but they would lose business by teens to HOS if they did that.
