Question—assuming if they had plans locked initially for Door Coaster when they did: couldn’t they reduce R&D by using them as a “base” with then simply a matter of a different location being the only notable changes that would be needed?

The MInc brand feels like a safe IP that could be very easy to mine; and if they had plans when they did, I think they could use them if it’s considered a cheap option.

P.S. If anyone wants to compile and compare MMRR and Zootopia ride beats it may be helpful. Off the top of my head, the characters pulling up in a car to right of to you.
I put together a pretty rough side-by-side of a pair of POV's that gives a basic idea. There are certainly some common gags, though Zootopia's pacing is quite a bit zippier than Mickey and Minnie.

I'd be fine (happy, even) with Zootopia remaining on the other side of the Pacific, but Hollywood Studios could really use another E-Ticket and I can't think of another obvious option based on what is/was recently in the pipeline.

I will say that I don't think most guests realize Mickey and Minnie/Rise of the Resistance use the same ride system. So, I can't imagine many more will pick up on Zootopia returning to that well.
I will say as someone who rode both those rides on the same day, I would not have ever guessed they were the same system. The storyline and how they move were different, plus the pre-shows in Rise are absolutely amazing. I don't think it is coming to DHS, but at the same point I don't think the same system should stop it.

Whhyyyy???? Just bring back the "Wonders of Life" Pavilion at EPCOT!! These characters would fit so much better there. *sigh*
Because it is easy to do a meet and greet and it will be popular. I don't get the complaint.

Have you ever experienced the Wonders of Life Pavilion at Epcot? More specifically- "Cranium Command"? Inside Out was pretty much the Pixar version of that attraction.

They can do the meet-n-greet at EPCOT (see above). That area at DHS is basically Toy Story Headquarters, not "Pixar Land"..

I probably did as a child, but have no memory of it. What I am saying is a meet and greet is easy and popular. It doesn't mean they can't do more with this IP later, it just means that they are giving fans what they want and promoting the movies. I imagine they picked DHS as that is where they had room to do a M&G. I mean they did Olaf meet and greets in DHS before the Frozen attractions that was very popular and now Frozen is in two parks. They can have IPs in more than one parks and M&G can be anywhere.

Just for reference:

I really am surprised we have yet to get an Inside Out attraction done in the style of Cranium Command.

Which would be kind of meta: an IP show/ride based on a movie that was based on an Original ride. Put it in the same location and minds would be blown.

As far as Hollywood Studios goes: this really seems like where they drop some quick and dirty meet and greets for (insert movie property here) because it is "in theme" to the extent that whatever property they choose is a movie.

Man, I still love this show. Helped that they had a classic group of SNL comics chipping in.

Just saying.... I have a feeling this is coming to DHS or Magic Kingdom. Most likely DHS but with BBTM who knows.

If it's Studios it will be the third version of the same ride just themed as Zootopia.

Most likely if it does come to another Disney park it will have to have a 2029 or later opening because they have to keep it exclusive to Shanghai for a five year period like they did with Tron. Of course with Disney's building timelines, it would probably not open until 2032 anyway...

Have people not caught on that Disney does this every single damn time they open something new somewhere?
  • Pandora was going to be put into every park
  • Cars Land/Franchise was "in the works for other destinations"
  • SWGE at every resort

Not saying it's not happening, but always love when the media/fan sites baited into believing them when their track record is miserable.

There has also been a shift in management in that time frame as well so each person's "vision" for the future has shaped the priorities.

I just keep thinking with all the things I've heard rumors about "another trackless dark ride/boat/whatever" instead of creating something new an unique. It seems like the current MO (probably to save time and money) is take something that exists and just change the IP. Build one system, trackless dark ride as an example, and it's Mickey & Minnie's, Rise of the Resistance, and Zootopia. Same rides, same (or at least very similar) layouts, just change the scenery and characters. At least try something new. And with Disney it still takes too long and costs too much to build a clone of the thing they already designed and engineered once.

On the flip side, when they do this they can perfect them and they become reliable systems and less downtime. How often does a boat or omnimover go down during a week? When you need capacity it might be better to build something that is reliable on a known tech vs becoming inventive and risking high downtime. So I don't mind a boat ride because I know it will allow more guests to experience it reducing lines for the whole park.
