I'm in the same boat. Do I wish they spent less money on it? Obviously. But I don't really care about Disney knowing my touring habits. Especially if they use the information to target areas of improvement.

You really think this will be done to target areas that need improvements?

More likely it will be used to shutter restaurants, shops, and attractions that are underperforming.

Didn't know if direct linking was okay. But it was posted by Lee for Spirit.

This was posted on "WDW News Today" WDW's official Cast Member website. And then immediately fed to an army of Disney Lifestyle Bloggers.

"Soon, Walt Disney World Resort will introduce tools that allow guests to use technology to customize and personalize their vacation, along with more guest enhancements that will continue to be tested and implemented in the coming years. Many of these efforts are part of MyMagic+, which has the ability to connect nearly all aspects of the guest experience.

My Disney Experience, a new website and mobile application, will provide a one-stop shop for all things Walt Disney World during every phase of a guest’s vacation. Guests may use My Disney Experience to get information on all Walt Disney World offerings, reserve dining and other experiences and make FastPass+ selections in advance.
Disney FastPass+ service will allow guests to lock in some of their must-do attractions and show experiences in advance, freeing them to explore and discover the magic in Walt Disney World theme parks and resort hotels. For the first time, guests will be able to reserve firework and parade viewing areas, shows, Disney Character Greetings and more.
The new MagicBand, worn on the wrist, will become the key to unlocking the magic, serving as room key, park admission, access to FastPass+ selections, PhotoPass card and payment account (optional) all rolled into one.
MyMagic+, as well as other guest experience enhancements, will continue to be tested and implemented in the coming years. We are continually looking at ways to take the entire Disney Parks experience to the next level at all of our destinations based on the unique ways our guests enjoy diverse sites. Guests, Cast, Crew, and Imagineer feedback will continue to be a critical part of the process in shaping these offerings."

Realistically? No. But I would feel better about it if they did

As technology obsessed as I am, this type of thing really bugs me. Not the tracking part, that's always been a part of society and you are naive if you think some sort of entity (commercial or governmental) isn't tracking your every movement and purchase (oh look, black helicopters). What I am sad about is the exploration and discovery of these parks by first time guests is basically going out the window. You have set times to be at set places and you are screwed if you do not adhere to this mapped out itinerary. Many awesome, relatively quiet places around the parks will be completely ignored by guests who have to walk this set out path. And winging it will cease to be an option as dining reservations and FP+ will force even the most diehard park explorer to make these reservations so they can actually do something while they are at the parks. I like to have plans, but this seems like overkill.

Yet another pure fluff/justification piece from the NYT for Disney, almost mirroring the "I swear we didn't ruin the CBJ piece" from a few months ago.

Too little hard info, too many magical buzz words.

This is the only quote in the DPB article that gives me a bit of hope:

We know that some people like to plan every aspect of their Disney vacation in advance while others like to plan very little, letting their day unfold spontaneously. No matter where guests fall in that spectrum, My Disney Experience gives them the flexibility to plan as much or as little as they’d like to create the exact Disney experience they want.

I'm very skeptical of this as of now, but we'll see.

The problem really comes with Fastpass. If Fastpass as we know it is gotten rid of, as I expect it to be, then "little planning" will mean "terrible trip".

That's pretty much how it is now anyway. Want to sit down and eat at Epcot or any of the parks? Too bad...you didn't plan.

This only expands those limitations to attractions. I've heard as well, that the paper Fastpasses will be completely gone once this whole program is rolled out.

No, it spreads it out into all aspects of park going. Not just attractions.

Right, I'm just saying right now there's not a whole lot limiting park goers in terms of attractions. This program does.

This is TDO's way to trap people on property forcing them to do each park two days therefore not being able to visit the other parks. It is easier to trap guests on property that is crumbling rather than invest in infrastructure and building new attractions. Hey don't pay attention to the theme park up the road that IS building what people want to see. No, here, take this house arrest bracelet, I mean your ticket to the world, and wait 3 hours for Peter Pan. Oh you didn't get to see all the attractions? Well, that means stay here longer and stop going to that other place OR pay us more money and get fast pass plus!

Soooo, what happens if I just show up with a 100 bucks cause I want to do MK? Are they going to slap that bracelet on me? Do I have to give them a boatload of info when I buy the ticket online? And how is this going to affect the pass holders? Are they basically turning a blind eye to them and just milking the guests from other states/countries that only know what Disney is? All of my trips to Disney have been planned like a month or two in advance, and if the only way to plan Disney is if you are going on your decade trip with the family, then I can't see myself ever visiting again. Just sounds like a hassle.

For those not keeping up, here is the real legal sinkhole Disney is stepping in.

Well, I never thought of that kind of speed bump. Must be where a huge chunk of that 2 billion is going. Gotta buy out the government to get anything done now a days.
