Didn't they try and make a similar system for an Ironman attraction but the cable thing didn't work out?

That sounds like utter heaven. I don’t even get how that’d work.

I was talking about the hybrid trackless-to-coaster Mack system Alicia refers to in her video.

Oops. I meant to reply to HHN Maddux's post above yours. My bad.

Man, it's been awhile since I've seen this. This felt so possible back then haha.

How would this have even worked? What would the test seat look like? Probably for the best this ended up on the cutting room floor. :nervous:

Not to change the subject and I’ll admit this is a pretty Disney-coded idea, but…

Could we see a Creature or other Dark Universe expansion attraction open in 2031 to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of the Universal Monsters?

(Yes, I know there were silent-era monsters, but it didn’t become a “brand” until Frankenstein and Dracula were both released in 1931.)

I think they could make it a major marketing bonanza with 100 year merch and they could even play the movies outdoors at the hotels. Maybe also brush up Monsters Unchained for the occasion.

Maybe it’s wishful thinking!

Vekoma has a suspended dark ride (video below), with SeaWorld building their version (SeaQuest), opening sometime in 2026. The design could be used for Wicked/ Oz (Hot Air Balloon) or Potter (Thestral Carriage) or Luigi's Mansion, or other Universal IP.

Not sure how likely this would be, considering Universal seems to barely work with Vekoma.

My apologies if this has been mentioned. I did a search of the forums and didn't see anything related to this specific design for Epic.

I don't think it's a Disney coded idea... unless you mean it'll go slowly past monster dioramas. There will be action and plenty of intense moments.

The rumor is Universal really doesn't want to built new suspended rides.

I guess I assumed that meant 'no suspended coasters with feet hanging' (Pteranodon Flyers, Monsters Door Coaster, Dueling Dragons, Jurassic Flyers). I hadn't realized that might include slow moving dark rides that don't hang feet (like E.T.).

Suspended rides can be VERY difficult to evacuate when they break down or lose power. A lot of time it involves calling in the fire department as part of the evacuation procedures which then becomes a media event.

For a large scale Wicked dark ride, I think the best fit would be to use the infrared trackless patent. If Universal had no desire to try trackless again, why would they have even bothered filing it

I've heard the same. The main reason being reliability and maintenance issues.

We can add suspended rides into the same boat as trackless.

So I'm new to this forum but how far along are the Wicked expansion rumors? Like is this pure speculation so far or are there big clues and we're just waiting for the announcement?

The rumors really started kicking up once Mark Woodbury (CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences) said in an interview
“I think I must stir that pot. When I saw the Wicked sets, said it was a theme park waiting to happen.”

“If you fly over Epic, or you look at Google Earth, you’ll see how we planned the park, and you’ll see green build space between the existing worlds. And that is strategically positioned to give us flexibility to expand the world or create a new world,”

Now that the second movie is about to release it just has been top of mind. Wicked being a Universal owned-IP also helps.

Full Mark Woodbury quote below. Note that this is a transcript, so I'm still trying to gauge how long of a pause Mark had after mentioning Wicked (possibly pausing for laughter and essentially changing the subject).

And what's the potential for Epic expansion? How long do you think it'll be before we see a sixth world, or maybe a Wicked world?

I think I might have stirred that pot when I saw the Wicked sets and said it was a theme park waiting to happen. If you fly over Epic or you look at Google Earth, you'll see how we plan the park and you'll see greenfield space between the existing worlds, and that is strategically positioned to give us flexibility to expand a world or create a new world. And so that's how we look at it.
I don't really have anything to announce specifically as attractions, but I can tell you that there are multiple attractions in the works, not just at Epic. But when you have the three parks, the cadence of product delivery across the resort to continue to drive the resort is really a key part of our strategy going forward.
And like I said at the opening, we have a clear line of sight into how far we can take this. It's considerable, and we have a pretty sophisticated and well-thought through, long-range plan that takes us out another decade in terms of product offerings, not just in Orlando but around the world.

Reading this in context, I don't know that this is really the main basis for the rumor of Wicked coming to Epic, or if it's other leaks that might be fueling it. I'm inclined to think it's the latter.

On the forums at least, the Wicked discussion really picked up after this post here.

I think it's a combination of informed speculation (Wicked made a lot of money, it's an IP Universal controls) and hope (the theme park community really likes Wicked). If the sequel makes a mountain of money, it seems like a given it'll end up somewhere at the theme parks.
