I’m here now for vacation and just rode it, I thought it was really bad. I’ll save details for the review thread.

The Curse of the Disaster Trams. Door ghosts just won't cooperate....Oh well, that was one of the main excuses Universal used to tear down Disaster. So, if the doors won't work, they may as well tear down F&F and put something else up. Keep trying till they get it right. ;)

Right? In the end they just told us to slam the doors as hard as we could. Great way to get rid of frustration ;)

I'm not sure those are HFR, just high def. The only things I know of that use HFR are Kong and Soarin'

'Fast & Furious: Supercharged' — Universal Studios Orlando Review | Hollywood Reporter

After reading it, it sounds like Universal wrote it.

The funny thing about this "Review" is that they talk about the actual ride portion once - and it's the only negative portion of the article, mentioning that it's brief. What this review tries to do is talk about the queue and pre-shows as if they are actually part of the ride.

I don't necessarily blame them for this though. They got flown out, given free food, free hotel room, and a grand opening ceremony that was actually really cool... ya know, like what you'd expect from a F&F attraction. The mainstream, non-theme park media don't care enough to write a bad review.

I feel like Robert Niles is the main reviewer so far who deserves the most criticism as he makes a living off of theme parks, unlike THR. All he's doing with his review is setting people up for disappointment.

And Soarin'.

If we're talking changing the film to be basically a completely new ride using the same IP like quinn was though, Universal hasn't ever actually done that.

Star Tours and Soarin' were complete film changes, not just upgrades. Agreed on the rest though. As I stated above, Universal has never actually changed ride footage to be an entirely new experience, just an upgrade in quality. Hell, we still have the same songs on HRRR as we had when it opened and that was sold to us as being something that could be "easily updated".

What about if they did a BTTF -> Simpsons or Jimmy Neutron -> Minions overlay in the next 8-10 years if Fast and Furious stays pretty poorly rated? Will just a new theme be able to salvage the ride system?

Aren't those just old Windows PDAs in the lap bar? Mine froze and spent the whole ride rebooting once

Normally I would say that would work, but I don't think the 360 ride system as a stand-alone attraction is something that will stay whenever F&F is replaced. They have a giant show building to work with, why not put all of that space to good use?

There were early reports that the Furious 360 scene was making people sick. This was before TM previews. I have wondered if they dropped high frame rate at the last minute, fearing that without 3D glasses the smooth animation style was causing the issue... Or, they probably just toned down the motion base, (another one of our complaints.)

I finally rode it Saturday. And I have to admit, I liked it for what it was and had fun....

But what is really painful for me is how amazing the sheer amount of detail in the queue and in the impressive alleyway sequence is - and to have that be wasted on what we got. Even when you get off at the loading dock you start seeing more details, parked motorcycles, etc. This could've been a neon-adorned street racing-themed indoor coaster and an instant classic. But this is what we got. Still, I had fun and grinned the whole time. It is what it is.

HFR also adds a feeling of motion (As anyone who has experienced ShowScan theaters will attest) so that could have been the reason.

This is the best news I've seen yet about this ride. Universal is taking this seriously. Best way to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Meanwhile Universal happily announces the ride is being cloned for Beijing. So ya... no. Lesson is clearly not that effective to the higher ups.

I used to follow TPI semi-regularly but actually stopped after the review of the Hollywood version of this that was overtly glowing. It's what it is, but that was my realization that Robert is writing puff pieces these days. He's the Disney Park's blog equivalent without the actual occasional direct news or announcements.

Nothing wrong with that, but when your website has been featured prominently in one of Universal's theme parks you have to become a marketing arm or risk losing the free advertising.

I also fear this ride will inevitably receive a TPI award, somehow further legitimizing it.

To be fair, it was leaked alongside Orlando when Hollywood had it's debut.

And that, depending on how Beijing works when you consider their budget just got upgraded by a huge amount, it may not be entirely a copy and paste when you consider the new budget far exceeding Shanghai Disneyland's 5 Billion.

Back to Drupercharged, glad to see that GSAT's are at-least being considered for the immediate on domestic, as it should hopefully get projects like a Jurassic Park River Adventure renovation more steam in the development process.

Of course that's always the hope. But just to play the pessimist we had the same hopes at one time for both this ride being significantly altered and the 800million budgetary bump for Shanghai. Both didn't actually go anywhere.

Fair enough.

To be frank, a part of me underlyingly thinks the budget raise is to ensure a 2020 debut, and that they'll make changes to attractions where needed.

I do expect some changes to come into play for Drupercharged out there, but that's not worth dragging this thread down now, is it?

When I heard this news I can't say that I was surprised. Dismayed is a better word.

I'm still surprised that banner is up over Mythos. Hasn't it been well over 5-6 years since it last won?

Except it's not because it completely derails the Studio Tour and many people now avoid the tram tour specifically because of Fast.. It's like putting mustard on delicious warm fluffy pancakes.

Yes, but the banner is still effective in making people say "oh this place was rated number one, must be good"

I can see that, when it was Kong it was a fun cool new addition. The they did the same thing with a different movie.....cool Uni thanks I guess.

I'd rather spend that time driving through more sets.
