I think that says more about Disney Imagineering lately in general than re-theming of rides. The appeal of Popeye is the water, you could change out the show scenes with a dozen IPs and it would still work as intended.

But also, the space isn't even free--much worse, it's an opportunity cost. Like a cruise ship, every square inch of a theme park needs to make money (according to modern corporate views). Dagwood's iconic-to-your-great-grandpa sandwiches and a Gasoline Alley store selling "Bort's Parking Only" signs are, in a very real sense, costing UOR money if a Spongebob or OnePiece themed snack bar and store would generate more revenue. That's why I don't think you can look at the rides in isolation--they only exist as the "weenie" to get you into the land to spend on food and merch.

They've named a parking space after me?

I know this is a random question but I've heard that Wimpy's is a hidden gem (mainly from Attraction Ideas but I recall hearing it elsewhere). Is that true?

So every time we passed through over the course of 3 days, none of the water features were running down the main thorough fare - have they been off for awhile?

I don't know if it's true, but I can't remember the last time I saw this (with my own eyes) open.

Felt very dry each time I went as well. Plus, water features weren't working at times on Popeye's, which made me sad.

I wanted it to be open when we went by, but alas.

Wimpys was open when I visited IoA in early August. They usually place an A-frame sign in front of the Popeye bridge saying "Wimpy's is open!" when it's operating. Which I think says something about something.

Weird location, lack of IP-based interest, inconsistent operational schedule, all kind of spiralling together in unison.

Which is a bummer because I love love love Toon Lagoon. Give me that land all day long. But it feels like that’s the next land to go at IOA when it’s time for the next change there.

+ IOA has a lot of quick service dining options, so the need to operate on most days is unnecessary.

I suspect Wimpy's will not be open much until the Holidays.

I think Toon Lagoon is fine except that it's outdated. I'd wonder what percentage of Universal's target demographic knows the main characters of the land.

I have an out of the box idea. If whatever opens in Lost Continent's space is a more family-friendly IP (as we all think it probably will be), why not put Jaws where Toon Lagoon is? It's a water-based franchise, extremely popular with tourists, based on a book, and Universal doesn't have to pay royalties.

For those who have been to USJ, how big is Amity Village? Is it well done?

I’m heading in November, but I wonder if it’s something (and look, I love Toon Lagoon) that could be looked to replace Toon Lagoon if they don’t want to get rid of the water features of the area.

It’s not officially based on books. That’s always been fan head-canon.

And that head-canon goes right out the window considering Dudley Do-Right is a cartoon.
