Minor correction: the Snow Queen is a Russian folktale not Scandinavian. The author is Danish. And Arendale is fictitious. So obviously Norway is where it goes.

I... did say Arendelle is fictious. But the artists based the look of the film on several aspects of Norway. I'm not defending what they did, I'm just saying that people saw this coming unlike GotG/ToT.

Though you are right about Snow Queen. My bad.

The "rumors" of Frozen were a political weapon. They were intended to provoke the country of Norway into a major investment in 'their' pavilion. Norway hasn't paid a penny toward it since 2002.

Norway was one of only two - the other being Morocco - to ever actually pay for their pavilion by governmental funding.

The idea was that Frozen would stay but that Norway would pay signifgant amounts to have things reflect the country more prominently than the film and leverage it as a sales device for the country. Travel adverts featuring Frozen have proven extremely successful for the country.

Disney banked on Norwegian pride being similar to American pride.

Disney was very.. Very.. Wrong.

Norway saw the plans and the counter offer and laughed and said "build your little Frozen ride, make our country the most popular in World Showcase, we're not giving you a penny" because the court of public opinion already decided Norway had to remain Norway, wether the country paid for it or not.

And to note, modern Norwegians didn't like being represented by trolls, polar bears (many pointed out they'd never even seen them in the country) and such... But above all they HATED the film.

So everything Disney fans whine about the pavilion losing the average Norwegian is thrilled to see go.

And similarly, Canada pressed for years for their film to be redone and regularly wrote Disney nasty letters about it from their tourism board. The tourism board that was supposed to have a travel office in the second level of the pavilion on the left side - that unfinished building - but who pulled all funding when Disney insisted the countrymen be portrayed as lumberjacks.

Which makes that recent lumberjack show all the more ironic.

And counterpoint, France still likes their film. There's a revelry of classic cinema in French culture and they happen to think theirs is quite well done and worth keeping.

China's has nothing to do with the country. An eccentricity rich Chinese American nuclear scientist pays for all of it. He also owns a lordship in the UK because he has so much money.

And so ends today's lecture - we now return you to your thread in progress.

Wasn't the original film done in by a Canadian news paper writing a scathing article about it in 2005 that led to an uproar? I remember reading about that.

And yeah, Norway tourism is benefitting from Frozen in so many insane ways. Adventures by Disney and upcoming DCL cruises for instance.

And speaking of World Showcase pavilions and to get back on the Tower of Terror, think of the Moroccan pavilion and the view from the Future World side of World Showcase. If you look at Morocco from here you will notice that the Tower of Terror is visible directly behind it. The color scheme that was chosen for the building makes it blend in with the color scheme of Morocco. If Disney does actually go through with this retheme, hopefully they will not change the exterior of the building as it could end up being as much of an eyesore as the Dolphin hotel over the France pavilion.

They're no where near as expensive as you'd think, like $35.
